Wow I’m a 1w9 and this video is so spot on. I quit so many things I love simply because I’m not perfect at them (piano, ukulele, cheer, photography, etc.), and sometimes it’s so bad that I won’t even attempt things in fear that I might fail and people will criticize me for it. Knowing my enneagram has definitely opened my eyes to things I need to work on in myself and this video was soo helpful!!

I am a 1 and an INFJ. The anger didn't reveal itself to me until I was older, late 30s early 40s. By then any suppression techniques were cracking apart, and there was no question what drives the perfectionism.

Thank you for your video. I am also a type one. :) In regard to your anger, it sounds like you do possess a lot of anger but you know how to cover it up before you even notice it because as ones we feel expressing lots of anger is not perfect or right. So when you do allow yourself to truly feel the anger it literally makes you feel like another person because you are so cut off from your anger because of your judgement around it. So it doesn't feel like you. How can it be? You are to calm, measure, practical, realistic, principled to have that much anger. Anger is a wild emotion and us ones are too principled to be wild. We suppress and shove down our instincts. I hope this makes sense. I am a very calm one but has seen there is general annoyance and frustration and indignation at other people on a daily basis which I feel but don't often allow myself to call it anger. I also have these judgements towards myself. It's that the other people or myself that I am judging is doing something morally corrupt or careless or, in my opinion, stupid. I hope this helps!! x

I am an ISFJ and a 1w2. I just learned about enneagram today and went looking to find out more. Basically, everything you have said, I have struggled with as well. The room decor is the same for when I was in college and couldn't get anything for myself, so it was just blank walls because I felt like 'if I can't go out and get what I want, then I'm not going to spend time on it until I can finally go all out'. I also internally struggle with not being able to share many things about myself and the things I'm doing. This is my huge struggle in life right now as I recently started my own web design and online marketing business, many of the things state to do more video, become more visible, tell your story. And I don't know if this is the 1 thing or perfectionism thing, but I tell myself everyday, this will be the day I will do it! And that internal judgment, not being able to come out, stops me every day. Even though I know I am good at what I do, it's that barrier that stops me. Though you seem to have such a natural flow with it, curious to know if you struggle at first, or with your INFJ that's something you do better with. I think the anger comes out for me mostly because as a 2 and an ISFJ, I feel the need to help others, and it boils through me when I see things happen to others and I feel like I need to fight to bring justice. Either way, your video really resonated with me and I felt so much was relatable to me and how I have been my entire life, and how now at 27 - I am finally coming to terms and trying to break free from many of those limitations that have held me back from doing many things.

The enneagram tests can lead people astray. It caused me a lot of confusion. One of the best ways I’ve learned to help ppl type themselves is by looking at your orientation of time. Past focused , present focused or future focused. Also, identifying main fears and desires. I can see INFJ being a 1w2 because they are organized and structured (1) but empathetic and ppl focused (2).

Enneagram type 1/INFJ checking in! I super resonated with a lot that you said, struggling with perfectionism with my creativity, wanting to give up when things aren't perfect, body image obsession, aesthetic perfectionism etc. I've really been working on relaxing these things as I get older.. trying to make acceptance my mantra when it comes to myself, others, the world! The enneagram 1 anger doesn't necessarily have to be on full display (especially if you're an introverted 1, with people pleasing type 2 wing). Where I've noticed it in myself is in holding onto resentment and feeling frustrated and irritated, which are all forms of anger, too.

The friend I enjoy the most is INFJ enneagram 1. But she's very different from you and most INFJs I have met. She's quiet, chill, steady. She's more introverted than most INFJs. She's constantly behind-the-scenes observing. There's almost no rhyme or reason why I like her except for the fact that we both love God and His word and truth and reason and sound thinking. My friend is the best, very hard-working to the extreme. She's 40. Have you met a very introverted, shy type of INFJ before?

Great video! I'm an INFJ 2 wing 1. I completely agree with you that Enneagram resonates with me less than MBTI. However, it has still provided an interesting layer of new understanding about myself or others. I know 3 other INFJs in real life. Their types are 1, 2, and 9. I would guess that those are common types for INFJs. I've heard that the type 4 is also quite common for INFJs. Thanks for sharing so vulnerably about your struggle with perfectionism. I so resonate with the difficulty in sharing your work/creativity with others. I can also relate to not trying something because I'm afraid of not doing it perfectly. I agree that it takes a lot of courage and vulnerability to step out in that way. Great video!

Hi Hannah :D Great to hear your thoughts as they are so relatable! And I agree that the Enneagram does provide an extra layer that is super helpful :) And yes you listed some of the most common Enneagram types for INFJs. Yeah... thanks for sharing your struggle with vulnerability too it's comforting to know that I am not the only one

Hannah Seagren I'm an INFJ but can't work out if I'm 2w1 or 1w2 ... it keeps coming out differently on the tests (which is partly why I prefer the MBTI to the enneagram.) I definitely identify with this video.

Hey, Melody Grace! I agree I’m a 1w2. Same I’m all of nothing, either my room is spotless or a total mess lol. Also with anger 1’s have more of a repressed anger. So we always trying to be “good”. Keeping composure is important to us. Same here only remember being very angry a few time in life but when I did ohhh everyone knew it. If your interested in a fellow 1w2 pen pal. Please don’t hesitaste to reach out. 💖

Guess what I was thinking? "She's sitting really straight, just as I'd expect a 1 to". I'm an mbti sensor with a 1wing and I'm very perfectionistic. In work, or in anything that I do, I work hard to make sure that the results meet my quality standards. I hate to leave any detail undone, and I hate 'shoddy' work. I put lots of energy into my work partly because that's me and I couldn't do anything else, partly because it is necessary to do so to have good results and because good working ethics ensures survival. I firmly control my emotions, and cannot snap unless I want to, but a part of me wants to go there. I can look angry, but it's a silent threat, I almost never get violent even with words. I also sit quite straight, I always have. I have high standards for a partner, and if they don't meet my expectations then I'd rather not have anything to do with them than have a half-hearted relationship.

Haha that is great that you caught that right away lol. So great to hear feedback from a sensor 1! Appreciate you giving us some insight into you as a one :) I also can really relate to controlling my own emotions. Thanks for sharing :)

Hmm, interesting. INFJ/Enneagram 1s are not that common, most of us are 4s. Nonetheless, I think being a 1 tends to nicely balance some of the weaknesses inherent to many INFJs. As an example, 1s are high in self discipline, a trait lacking in many INFJs.

I'm an INTJ 5 w/ balanced wings and 1 as inferior. My perfectionism is about things and processes, but I can relate, too. Especially that part of something is either perfect or provisional, quick and dirty while I work on the "real" solution. If I call something finished, then it is as good as I can make it. But the unhealthy side of it is more like that it can tilt into obsession, redo nearly perfect things because you think you can do it better, but in reality make it only worse and that starts a vicious circle which is hard to escape.

Have you considered Enneagram type 3? Get a copy of "Personality Types" (on Amazon here: www.amazon.com/Personality-Types-Using-Enneagram-Self-Discovery/dp/0395798671/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1511720846&sr=1-1&keywords=personality+types). Compare Riso & Hudson's "The Star" (3 wing 2) with "The Advocate" (1 wing 2). And take a look at Jennifer Howard's video on the differences between type 1 and type 3 (watch the whole thing since she covers a lot of ground): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SvAcrj51anc.html

Are you sure you're an enneagram 1? My gf is an enneagram 1 and she fits it to the T! To the point of not being able to veer away from it
@01Mlandry
@01Mlandry 6 лет назад
It's the one that makes the most sense to me, but I do not identify with it super strongly as I am sure others might. I think Enneagram is a sliding scale for a lot of people. Where some people identify with is super closely and others more lose.
@daringgreatly8473
@daringgreatly8473 5 лет назад
Enneagram does not work like MBTI. The enneagram has a scale of health. It gives you the unhealthy version and healthy version. It’s a growth tool. You also have to understand that each type goes to another type in stress and growth. Which leads to typing confusion because you may seem one way but it’s because of stress. I’ve studied enneagram for 15yrs. You can not compare it with MBTI it’s completely different. I will say the tests can be misleading. You can narrow your type down by considering your time focus. Do you live in the past, present or future?

Hi Melody, just wondering if you have perfectionist ideals in terms of morals and values? for example, you can get angry when people don't behave in a certain way in accordance to the ideal moral behaviour? I have been typed as INFP and enneagram 1w2 as well (i find the enneagram descriptions fits me better than INFP descriptions). So I've always questioned if I am an INFP...and I can see how perfectionist idealism and that expectations on yourself and others, can be mistaken for Fi.

how do you recognize and process your anger as a 1?
@01Mlandry

No but it's something I want to understand more. My friend that's an INFJ 1 said he often avoids anger because it isn't a perfect emotion subconsciously.

First of all, you are NOT an INFJ. Second of all, you probably aren't a 1. I'm a 1. I've only been doing MBTI videos for 2 weeks now and I'm already trying to fix the entire system. I am trying to innovate it because I don't think the current typing methods are good enough. So I am declaring the current state of MBTI "dead" and am devising my own, new typing method that I strongly believe will work much better. That is what a strong Enneagram 1 looks like. That's why it is called "The Reformer". And here's another 1 attribute of mine: you can fix your camera's focus by switching the lens to manual focus (if not a removable DSLR lens, their should be a switch or something on the body), then set up a music stand or something exactly where you will be sitting, then go to the camera and adjust the focus ring until that object is sharp, preferably using the magnify feature for perfection, and finally, shoot your video. If it's not a prime lens, don't change the focal length without readjusting focus. But if you want to avoid the need to deal with focus altogether, just put it in full manual mode, stop down the iris to where everything in the frame is in focus (iris - aka f-stop and aperture - controls the depth of field), then use the ISO and ambient light to adjust for the proper exposure. But don't use shutter speed - that should remain a constant 1/60 if you are shooting RU-vid's 30/29.97 fps - that is to optimize motion blur via the 180 degree shutter rule.

You're ISTJ 1w2? Just trying to guess... Oh, maybe, you're INFJ 1w2/9? I just watched your chanel profile... I don't know... I love Frozen too. By the way, it was necessary to take into account that she is a woman, and in women the brain works biologically a little differently than in men. If you're a man, of course...
