Shane was a realistic character, a good gunslinger as well as a strong man but at the same time a fool who if he hadn't been nervous and had relations with Rick's wife, I'm sure he would have made it to the last season.

I get that, but he was legit a problem though. He tried to kill Rick 3 different times, tried emotionally messing with Lori, killed Randall and Odis and lied to the group. At least Rick was honest the next day with the group about killing Shane.

Crazy to think that in the comics SPOILERS Shane snapped/broke almost immediately TV Shane was definitely way more hardened and ruthless. It really felt like he saw the way things were way before anyone else and was willing to adapt to the new world. Makes me want a 'What If?' type story where Shane successfully usurped Rick

He moved one, came to terms with Rick but then Lori came and undo everything by giving him false hope that she can be his breaking Shane and pushing him over to the edge, now there was no going back, even if he had lived, I do think that wouldn't be that great, he had a perfect character arc.

It's Lori's fault. After Rick came back, she freaked out at him and told him to stay the hell away from her and Carl, because he said Rick was dead (which for all he knew, he was). This was the catalyst that caused it, if she had not reacted so harshly towards Shane, he would not have had the same gradual melt-down.
