Same here, originally from the Caribbean (Saint Lucia). I have Scottish, British, and Irish roots in my family on both sides, so I grew up listening to somd of it, but Highlander made me fall on love with it.
My mom and I loved Highlander❤️ My mom was born and raised in Glasgow,Scotland and some of the sences reminded her of home.I just wish I had got to go to Scotland and see those beautiful highlands for myself. RIP Mom😥😥 Luv and Miss you❤️
I have never loved a movie the way I love Highlander, movie and the series! And the voice and this song are extraordinary! There's also a live performance of Loreena's Bonnie Portmore, as powerful as this one. Wonderful voice, exceptional song.
beautiful song by Enya. excellent movie highlander. I dedicate this song to the memory all the great heroes of history that are immortal for their people. as well as follow their example.
I know the feeling, my father past away December 2014,and it was him that got me into the Highlander franchise, even the music of Queen that done the songs for the first Highlander movie
she nver really goes away Joshua and this are not just words is the truth, shes always with you and alwys will be, sometimes youll be able to percieve her.
The Name of the Song is Bonny Portmore. Its a requiem which laments the demise of Ireland's old oak forests, specifically the Great Oak of Portmore or the Portmore Ornament Tree, which fell in a windstorm in 1760 and was subsequently used for shipbuilding and other purposes.
Similar to this, one of the best Serbian poems is written as a requiem for forests that were used for building Venice... well, at least first part of that song.
Extremely mesmerizing voice and song. Been a fan of Lorena Mckennit since the 70's when she released 'The Mummers Dance'. Loved the show and movies of 'The Highlander' series so you went 3 for 3 with me with this post so thank you so very much, Will stay in my 'favorites' til my end of days.
The melody of this song was first published 1840 in Bunting's "Ancient Music of Ireland" and was collected from the playing of Ulster harper Daniel Black in 1796. (Ref: articles by Jon Bartlett in Three-Quarter Times: The Newsletter of the Vancouver Folk Song Society Vol XXIII, No. 8: 29 November 1993 and Vol XXIII, No. 4: 27 May 1998.) Cut from Wiki... The original Movie version Had Loreena Mckennitt's version which was so inspiring it was frequently used for for the Television series. This particular U-tube version Is Laura Creamer, her version was used in all the television episodes of highlander. The Highlander: Endgame movie used a version by sung by Jennifer McNeil. This song itself is a true relic from the days when the British dominanted on open seas.
For what it's worth, Loreena and Enya DID do a duet of Bonny Portmonte - this song. Eith version brings tears to my eyes every time I hear the blasted beautiful thing. Ian MacLeod
I know my grandparents are Norwegian and Sweden but Anderson is from Scotland there music that just reaches you like something you know well from your past possibly a past life 🤗
Não apenas por ser um admirador do trabalho de pequisa, mas pela magia que ela impregna, cada trabalho.Lorena é mágica,é fundamental, dentro de universo fantástico da música terrena.
After Karen Carpenter, came Loreena and Enya, and the trifecta of perfection was reached. Highlander always had great sound tracks, such as Kansas: Dust in the Wind or Queen's: who wants to live forever? The Song of the Pooka from Endgame needs mentioning.
I feel the the same way as Clifford does being a out cast never have fit in that's why for me I stay away from people and I get lonely at times but know that you don't fit in and watching the videos of Scotland makes me just want to get my back pack and wonder thru Scotland for a long time and see all the country side with all the old castles that are there I know part of my family came from the highlands which to me is really great and I have always been a wonder any way
Sometimes people that are meant to be with each other can't escape it. If you're meant to be with someone they always find their way back into your lives.
I respect so much the irish history and the way the irish people had tried to keep peace while others were raging for war. They always had an honorable way to end even if that ment to go to war, not to conquer just to defend their land. I'm not from Ireland, I just wanted to let you know you have a great country. May God protect it !
I have always loved this song as relatives on my mom’s side of the family I knew as a child that were of families from various parts of the British isles would sing this song and I have always loved the music and stories from the English isles
