On this episode, Seth and Preston sit down with Project Engineer Miles Neville, and Senior Ballistician Jayden Quinlan. The topic at hand is one that we are proud and very fond of - the 6mm Advanced Rifle Cartridge or 6 ARC, for short. The cartridge can stand on its own in a bolt or a gas gun and serves a wide variety of applications. We discuss how the cartridge came to be, initial offerings, as well as match and hunting applications. We hope you find this episode informative and entertaining.

Why? The 6.5 Grendel will do everything the 6mm ARC will do or more. You just have to compare like ammo with like projectile weights. Once you get heavier than the 6mm ARC offerings though the 6mm ARC can not keep up with the 6.5 Grendel especialy when talking about hunting and terminal ballistics in the real world on living flesh!

With reading about the 6MM ARC when it was released, with my past experience I believed the AR15 platform had truly come into the 21st century. I immediately bought an Aero Precision M4E with a 16" Ballistic Advantage barrel, some Hornady factory ammo and loading supplies. WELL DONE! I don't want to even get into the unbelievable accuracy, shoot ability and Ballistic performance, people would not believe it. Suffice to say fabulous wind performance tested out to 1/2 mile. @@michaelvangundy226 The 30 Carbine served from 1942 in WWII, in Korea 1953, in Vietnam until 1975. In a multitude of little conflicts all around the world after that. The talk says issued to staff and support. Audy Murphy and C Carwood Lipton were not support and neither were many of those issued the Carbine. Think airborne! In the early 70's I carried a model 70, an M2 30 Carbine in MA1 configuration as my secondary weapon because it was small when folded and lite also a 1911. As time passed there were M16's CAR 15's as the secondary. I believe when you're in close there are worse choices then a well maintained 30 Carbine or the M4.

Hornady, IMHO, YOU need to add some factory loaded offerings to the 6mm ARC. Currently, all of the loadings are > 100 grains and that's hurting the reputation of the round, because people think that it's just for long range. How about offer the same bullet choices as the 6mm Creedmore? Edit: What part of "factory loaded offerings" aren't you guys getting? Hornady has done a terrible job of showing the 6mm ARC's versatility.

New guy to the long range/PRS world. (Starting my 2nd season) I started out shooting a M1A in .308. Great rifle, highly impractical for PRS. (It's all I had.) I ordered a complete upper in Nov 2020. Fast forward Oct 2021 I finally score a aero precision 24" hvy barrel complete upper 2 days before our season finale. (Actually, noon, Thursday before the match.) I cleaned the upper, took it out, broke in the barrel, zeroed, came home, cleaned it again, threw it in the case. Friday afternoon fine tuned the zero, got my average velocity (with the help of a friend and his labradar), trued BC in my kestrel and went to work Saturday at the match. (Had all of 66 rounds on the rifle) Only shot a 45 BUT you have to understand I only fired 58(ish) rounds to begin with. (My time management sucked) The guys on my squad were highly impressed with the performance. And I quote "That thing is a f'ing laser!" Yep, it shoots nice. Out of the box shooting Hornady 108 Match ammo my AR shoots 1/2" groups at 100 yards. With Black ammo it spreads out to around 3/4". Velocity average for factory 108 ammo is just under 2700 fps, Black ammo is around 2725 fps. ES/SD from both ammo lines is amazing. Started load development recently. (Still have plenty of factory 108 Match on the shelf. Guess that's the benefit of waiting almost a year on a upper, plenty of time to buy ammo. lol) Right now I'm getting 2685 fps (avg) sd 4 ES 9 with 28.8 grs of leverevolution, CCI 400 primer using hornady match brass. (No flash hole de-buring, just anneal, size, trim, mandrel the neck, dump powder, seat bullet at factory length, go.) Like y'all said, I'm not worried about crazy speed, just consistency. I know leverevolution is temp sensitive but as long as the velocity change is known it's nothing that can't be dealt with. Have some N140 coming. Might drop velocity but shouldn't have temp sensitivity. Anywho, after all the rambling, absolutely love 6 ARC. So glad I discovered it before building a 6.5 creedmoor gas gun. Super excited to get this PRS season underway. Taking it out to vortex vengeance in a couple weeks. Keep up the good work Hornady. Love your products. All of these parts can be shipped to your home. That's the beauty of a caliber like this.....with HUGE ballistic advantages. It 6mm ARC does what U.S. Special Forces need it to do. That said in almost every hunting or real life use where barrel length is not stupidly limited and bullet weight is not limited the origanal 6.5 Grendel beats it in every way. Not talking about number on a sheet of paper but real world use in target shooting and hunting. If you run the same weight bullets of like design in 6.5 Grendel as the 6 ARC it will shoot as flat or flatter. If you load heavier bullets or hunting specific bullets it eats the 6mm ARC's lunch! You have to make unfair comparisons and stack the deck to make the case for 6mm ARC over 6.5 Grendel. If you not cowards let me know we can meet up during good weather in Michigan where my crippled but lives. You can bring doppler radar and any other gear so long as all footage and data is live and made available to everyone for free. All bullets and loads have to be made publicly available. All bullets must be publicly available for purchase at the time of getting together and competing. Hornady will never put up or shut up because the modern Hornday is full of liars that fear the truth and far comparisons. They fear science, engineering and transperancy! They lied to their custoemrs about what was int he box and last I checked even after they where caught as liars refused to change the sticker ont he box! Your RU-vid channel is a marketing machine not a source of trut and light for the community and your customers! It is not that the 6mm ARC is a bad cartridge it is not at all it is a very good cartridge the problem is that the truth in not in Hornady and the company can not be trusted to be honest and make honest comparisons! Just like the absolute rubish comparisons between the 6.5CM and the 300WM that you company pushed and encouraged gun writers to make. You insult your customer base. You are basicly urinating in our face and telling us it is raining! I bet you wont invite the public toshow up wioth 6.5 Grendel and 6mm ARC for a show down and maybe toss a few pigs onto a smoker and have a good time! Your not that honest, open, and magnanimous to your customers and fans. You pretend to be though! I can not imagine Grace Hornady approves of the current corprate culture! Just my opinion though!

I contacted Starline and they are not taking on new projects and their technician said it wouldn't work because the primer pockets would stretch if you removed brass from the base. That didn't make since to me since it would be the same as existing 5.56! So I took two 6.5 Grendel cases and milled them down myself to fit my 5.56 bolt. I then put the 5.56 bolt in my 6.5 Grendel upper and have now shot each case 4 times and still have resistance in the primer pockets. One case is PPU and the other is Hornady. I'm pushing a 140 grain bullet with 21.5 grains of IMR4198 because I have a good supply of both. No pressure signs. I'm going to work up to 22 grains which should be near max pressure. I haven't chronographed this load and I'm not using the gas system for this test. I'm just testing the integrity of the base.

Laughable! BS Warning! Folks need to decide if you're talking AR Platform and its limitations or bolt rifles. I hear ya, 6mm ARC is great, but no love for 243 Win. 6.5 Grendel is great too, supposedly good enough to rival 6.5 CM, but no love for 260 Rem. Same groupies are saying 308 "is dead" and 30-06 is "outdated". Hmm, really!? BS
@BryanShull-lt8gz
@BryanShull-lt8gz 3 месяца назад
You could do the same thing with the 6.5 Grendel and the 7.62x39 with small primer pockets. This would practically eliminate the bolt breaking at the lugs due to the removal of metal to accommodate the larger cartridge bases.

6.5cm will always reign supreme in this area it seems a bit odd to try dethrone it because its so established. 6.5 ARC wont ever achieve that level of success, in the same way 17WSM and 17HM2 will never overtake 17HMR.

Pretty disingenuous to compare a 108 or 105 in the 6mm and just hand wave assume the best you can load into the 6.5 is a 120. Thats like comparing something to a 308 and playing like only 150s exist. The 6.5 loaded with the best bc loads it can take is absolutely splitting hairs with the 6mm, and has significantly more energy up close, and only barely looses out in the ballpark of 800/1000ish yard territory depening...

I would like to see an update to the 123gr and 115-117gr class of 6.5s, increasing BC, but the conclusions are valid they have made. The other answer might be .257, which would allow a really wide range of projectiles and better BC than 139-147gr 6.5mm, if you look at the new 131gr and 135gr .257s, but we really need a 2.500" action to seat those properly with the Grendel case.

Do you know if the company reversed it's vaccine mandate, and and made a comprehensive reimbursement plan for the employees whose rights were violated, and a way to cover any and all potential side effects of the vaccine? Short of a huge public apology, including such a plan for the employees, I don't see any way to convince me to be a customer again.

More excuses to shift ammo production capacity away from long-standing hunting cartridges. Worst of all is 6.5 CM because it was totally redundant alongside other existing 6.5 cartridges.

Hey guy's, why don't you see what you can do with the 6x45 wildcat? If you "Ackley" it you can straighten the walls and change the shoulder to 40 degrees. This will let you get more powder in it and increase performance while maintaining the 5.56 bolt and magazines in the AR 15 platform. This might get near 6ARC performance while keeping the round count the same in the magazine as 5.56. If it works out the military might jump all over it!!! You won't need to pay me a royalty just send me an upper!!! 😀

Had to re form 6.5 Grendel brass into 6mm ARC brass, because Hornady doesn't have their shit together. Come on guys, invent a great new cartridge, but then short the market on brass, and charge $3.00 a round for ammunition....? Gotta hand it to you, good way to make some money. You can take his 6mm arc barrels with an 80gr to 90gr bullets and push them in the high 2900 to low 3000 fps and get great accuracy and very low recoil.with lever evolution n cfe223. and shooting sub MOA.. Oh and that's out of a gas gun.
