I agree. Push Comes to Shove IS the finest VH solo. As a looong time VH fan, I’ve always felt that way. Interesting Dweezil called that out.

I saw Dweezil on a Jimi Hendrix tribute tour in a small opera house. Had Billy Cox, Buddy Guy, Johnny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shephard. A great all-star tribute band.

Really hate I missed this live. I would have paid for a comment. I played in an Allman Brothers tribute band in Birmingham, AL. One of our Hammond players was Don Barbee (who is now deceased). He was in Frank Zappa’s movie “Uncle Meat”. He was on tour in L.A. in 1968 and was staying at the same hotel as Frank. Zappa overheard him talking at the hotel pool and got a kick out of his Alabama accent. Frank ending up putting him in the movie just to hear him talk.

The question came up in the chat last evening regarding the best Zappa records to get into the wonderful world of FZ. Dweezil has recommended, and I agree with him that 'Apostrophe/Overnite Sensation' is the best place to start. While they while not FZ's favourite stuff it does contain everything that compromises Frank's work and the more commercial slant makes them more easily accessible.

WOW! I've been saying the Push Comes To Shove is Ed's best solo of all. It reminds of Holdsworth somewhat!

Have you guys bumped into Clifton Wright on youtube? Apparently he's been doing old rack unit videos for a good while already, but only recently started popping up in the feed. The guy owns a wall of 80's classic units but isn't afraid to try anything found from the garage sales, and he's got some _serious_ chops. New contender in the Michael Nielsen, Leon Todd, Robert Baker world! It seems like he's found that niche that was missing on youtube regarding his reviews/demos, a couple of really nice "sleeper units" too.

14:55 I agree with Dweezil 100% The solo on When Push Comes to Shove is one of Edwards best ever. I have tried to tell people about this solo for years and they don’t listen to it because they don’t like the song very much. The song grew on me, it has great stuff in it……Dave talking at the beginning, Ed’s volume swells and the solo is just blazing angry. Eddie must have been in a bad mood that day.

I loved Dweezil's idea of an amp that allows you the capability of mixing in a clean sound to your overdrive! Dave...what do you think?

It was funny how Dweezil had to tell EVH how certain solo that did in the past went. I heard there were similar situations with Wolfie correcting EVH on how certain songs went during rehearsals, for the first tour Wolfie was on.

As much as I appreciate the Zappa Plays Zappa stuff (and go to see Dweezil, whenever he comes to my country), I am also a massive fan of his original music. Shampoohorn and Music for Pets were the albums that put Dweezil on my musical radar and are still on pretty heavy rotation at my house. With that said, there are diamonds on every single Dweezil album and for those of you unfamiliar with Dweezil’s original music, you really owe it to yourself to check it out. Moreover, like the fool that I am, I am still hoping for What the Hell was I Thinking and dreaming of some sort of Z reunion, that (for sadly obvious reasons) will never happen.

My gear problem is I like everything I can't afford. I hunt used....

Such an insightful conversation. I respect Dweezil Zappa immensely. Not only is he a phenomenal guitarist, but also a great songrwriter, and the fact that he has kept Frank's legacy alive at such high quality, in live settings, is invaluable. I have seen ZPZ 3 times, and can't wait until they come to Vienna-Austria again. Playing Frank'z music requires serious dedication. I am currently learning "St. Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast", which I have always loved. Having Dweezil complementing one of my own compositions has been one of the highlights of my life.
