Nice informational vid! After many tries, I've come to the conclusion that the 4x4 platform I'm working with (Redcat Racing Earthquake 8e) prefers wider tires. I've tried the kind of tires you had used in the "how to strap tires" episode and a set of soft Sweep Racing tires which are very nicely made with a good feel, but my steering assembly goes wild after 28mph. I threw 2 dBoot tires from my Arrma Kraton on just the rear of the vehicle and I started getting up to 35mph. So then I threw HPI Phaltline tires on all 4 and got up to 40mph before I flipped and had my pinion eject. Using a stock 2050kv on the paired 80a SC8 esc, the box claimed 35+ and the wide tires achieved it. My problem is functionality doesn't fit my body shell choices and I'm having a hard time trying to find tires with a 2.4" to 3" diameter like what's in your "tire comparison" video with similar width to the HPI Phaltline's. Here's a link to a video showing the better results 👇 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oRKHgtDIgok.html

Just a quick Update: Dizzy just laid down run 4 runs from 93-94 mph and the SP Racing tires performed flawlessly. Stay tuned for a full review very soon.

Im using SP RACING 1/8 GT COMPETITION rubber and SOFT and SP RACING 1/8 GT foam 37. Both are superb for the track. My friend uses it for Serpent SRX8 GTE WC 4wd 1/8 EP and i trying XO-1 on the track. Funny is, that SP tires are way better than for example original XO-1 wheels and many times cheaper.

I wasn't very impressed with the original x01 tires. Apparently you need to get a lot of heat in them to make them sticky enough to be useful for the conditions a lot of us run. Thanks for watching!

You should throw them on an RC with a whiteboard and ruler behind them to test ballooning. Cool video and great info!

+BASHERS UNITED That's a great idea!! I'll add it to my video cue. Speaking of ballooning, I have an upcoming video all about using ballooning to clear water out of monster truck tires. It was CRAZY, but it worked!!!!

Just ran across this video. I personally have hit 114mph on Jaco foams. They do really well at high speeds....in my opinion.
@RCPhysics
@RCPhysics 7 лет назад
I've gone back and forth with foams and am now back. I think that the problems I was having in the past were either due to the foam being dry (no traction compound) or the car's setup. In the end, my foam tires have proven tough and consistent. The only real problem I have is that the Jacos use a 12mm hub, which has problems handling the torque from a 6S setup. They will eventually strip out on a heavier car. At that point, you should trade up to the BSR foams (which are made by the same guys that now own Jaco) or Banana Skinz foams.
@rman6155
@rman6155 7 лет назад
I love the banana skinz too. I run them on my rustler. I've hit 118mph on them. never had a problem with the 12mm hubs....not yet anyway. lol

Thanks for the video! You should say the Jaco have 12mm hex... and the other's are 17mm...not everyone know that! Also i would like to see 1/10 buggy foams :) And not GT 1/10 65mm diameter foam tires/rims :)

Good point! Thanks for watching.

nice...you should create a solution that increases the durability of the foam tires by 50% or more...i happen to prefer the foams...i still need to try bsr since I believe jaco are bottom of the line
@RCPhysics
@RCPhysics 9 лет назад
+Wayne Peeples I still like foams, too so I'm probably going to play with this problem a little more on Slade. I think Slade's high downforce helps the foams hook up better, but Dizzy just had too much torque on 6S for the foams to handle. I'm curious about the BSRs, so I should reach out to them.
@WaynePeeples
@WaynePeeples 9 лет назад
I copy that ...i just know on 1 : 10 scale cars jacos are the worst in my opinion. ..SP by delta plastiks, contacts, and BSR are much better quality
@BASHERSUNITED
@BASHERSUNITED 9 лет назад
+Wayne Peeples -EDIT- BSR's foams sit on GRP/Buggy style rims and are the standard 8th scale material, offset and width. That's what makes them a better fit for speed runs IMHO. Jaco's are 12mm hub and made of a stiffer and less dense plastic. I've hit rocks with J's and had them explode lol.

Hahaha!!...wow man ...@hit rocks and explode...your statement is very informative and makes much sense...hope u didn't suffer too much damage due to them popping

Wayne Peeples I firmly agree with you on this one bro jaco is bottom of the line I tore 4 pair up in four months but I do like the foams just gotta find some that hold up or jus bite the bullet and by grp

Grp tires explode about 115 mph. First hand experience. Foams are the only tires that stay together at speed. I like Johns BSR personally.
@RCPhysics
@RCPhysics 2 года назад
GRPs have gone over 160, but you are right. They are VERY prone to come apart at speeds over 115. Any minor imperfection in the tire, sidewall, or glue bead can lead to disaster. Foam tires are much less likely to fail like this since their tire weight is so much lower.

lol it's nice to know I'm not the only one that happens to I hate when the hexes strip I'm using john's bsr racing tires 1/8 buggy red have not had a problem yet 17 millimeter hexes but you have good videos keep up the good work and very informational

+RALPH FOX Thank you! I appreciate the complements! I know a lot of guys make RC videos, so I try to focus on content that folks might like to know but either have not thought to ask about or just didn't know where to look for the information. I like to teach, so this channel has been really fun for me. I'm still a bit amazed at how it's taken off.

+Mr Highpower82 They are supposed to work well, but +2cwik4u104 had issues with an older sets internal foam. I'm hoping that's been all sorted out now.

I been using the foams on my castle rustler and hate them. Which ones would you recommend for runs?
@RCPhysics
@RCPhysics 7 лет назад
Which foams are you running? There are at least 3 good foam brands that will work on your car: Jacos, BSRs, and Banana Skinz. Also, are you running the foams dry or with traction compound. Dry foams can get hard and will not grip very well after a while. A little traction compound, WD40, or even windex are known to do wonderful things to wake up dry foam tires. If you want to give up on foams all together, most guys run GRP rubber tires. I actually really liked my SP Racing belted rubber "winter" tires, but their construction limits them to ~115 mph.
@stickaman
@stickaman 8 лет назад
did you ever do a running vid using the SP Racing tires?
@RCPhysics
@RCPhysics 8 лет назад
+stickaman Actually, all of my Run DMV runs with Dizzy were on the SP Racing tires. I have a Run DMV Playlist where you can look at the 4 sessions, but Dizzy did a LOT of runs (15-20) peaking at 102 MPH and the SP Racing tires performed flawlessly. I've been told that they have been up to ~114mph on some other cars so far.

+2cwik4u104 I didn't quite hit 100 mph today, but 90+ mph several runs in a row while breaking in a new setup aren't too bad. The new Sp Racing tires look like the real deal. I'm going to keep using them as my primary tires for now and I'll keep you posted.

a drag race with foam tires on 6s very reliable and when I was testing them I hit 88 miles per hour flawless all my car are getting foam tires
@RCPhysics
@RCPhysics 8 лет назад
+RALPH FOX Thanks for your comment. I really should have been more clear in the video. The foam of the tires wasn't actually the issue. I was using the 12mm hex "Rustler" Jacos on my 6S powered slash and was putting down enough torque that the wheel hexes were beginning to strip. The actual foam held up great. I really should have been running the BSR versions with 17mm hexes, which probably would have been fine.
