4 year old post and still generating interest. A testament to your dedication and ingenuity. Traxxas have given you an opening to improving on something they insist on producing to fail. They are all about copyrights and intellectual property. This enables them to build a profitable spare parts arm of their business. But you my friend have outsmarted them by using non traxxas components. Utilising already manufactured, higher quality aftermarket components. Very impressive work. Great video. A good eye for detail and always looking to improve. You've got something inside your brain that most businesses would pay a fortune to have. There's a reason you couldn't resist from releasing your mod for others to see. Average minds talk about people. Brilliant minds share ideas.
Thanks Brotha, you just put a smile on my face lol. Ive had lots of practice. Been a Journeyman toolmaker for 32 years. Making thing better and stronger is right up my alley. Again, thanks my friend. Have a blessed day 👍🏻👍🏻
@@customfastrc7671 you are welcome. Have you ever thought about taking advantage of your talent and turning it into a business for yourself and a solution for almost every RC enthusiast out there? You could be busy enough just sorting out traxxas issues. But seriously, this problem with plastic moving parts inside diffs is a an issue that no one has really done anything about. Just think about how many traxxas rc's there are in the US, and then consider the world wide distribution of traxxas alone. I'm in Australia, and there isn't a traxxas owner here that hasn't had a problem with plastic moving parts failing in the diffs of their rc's. I'll be your first Australian customer with an order for 2 Rustlers and a Stampede complete diff replacements. Regardless of what you decide, keep doing what you do best and enjoy doing along the way. Just remember me to be your first Aussie customer if you decide to make a business out of it. All the best to you my friend.
@@customfastrc7671 by the way, your red drag car looks absolutely stunning. I could sit there spinning it around on its stand, looking at it all day long. The wheels on it are just the bomb.
Very good video. You have given me so much ideas and the common sense solutions you have come up with for the different issues with Gearbox and the gears are genius.
Well this is old but by far the most surprising rustler video i have ever seen on RU-vid. Most people are overly proud of their builds which amount to nothing different. You on the other hand have put every other guy driving a traxxas 2wd to shame. Im very impressed and humbled by that mod 1 tranny. Now that alone should have got you a ton of followers. This shows how editing and action gets followers over innovation unfortunately.
Beautiful. Went back to my old traxxas rig and realized I stopped driving it because of gearbox issues. I'd love to get the part numbers when you decide to release info. I just dont have the time to research it. Well, at least I know it can be done.
iROCK™ RC Whats up my friend. The original idea was sparked from a conversation between me and Jess34753. The gearbox design in this vid is mine. Thanks Irock its always a pleasure.
very informative.for sure in my opinion the most knowledgeable and exactly what i needed to hear.i put a castle 1515 motor and the sidewinder 8 on my traxxis slash 2wd and just chewed my diff gears up in seconds.transmission gears are fine so i think imma just lock the diff
I find this to be a really inspiring achievement custom fast rc! I'm going to take you up on the challenge of making my own version of this mod 1 gearbox. But you can also sign me up on your list to purchase one when you're ready to make them available. Thanks, and I look forward to seeing your 12S machine!
Jess claims he made something similar about a year or so ago. We where talking about the mod for a couple of hours then i decided to build my own version of a mod 1 gearbox.from what he says ours are different from each other.
That has got to be the best video I’ve watched and I’ve been watching a heck of a lot of them , I’m building a drag slash myself and the gearbox is what I’m looking at now , thank you so much for Sharing your now how with us guys out here , I’ve subscribed now and look forward to watching more from you , stay safe mate ...
Wow looks like traxxas made it themselves! Great video custom fast Rc I've been watching for some time now. I like the work your putting out and it's all outstanding stuff!!! I would play around and try to replicate it but my resources are well spent on a project to help the whole Rc community out...
JAMMIN RC Right on bro good stuff. Unfortunately my time for the hobby is limited. But will help when I can. Thanks for kind reply my brotha. Comments like that make it all worth it
You are a genius and master fabricator with your ideas... Some hobby shops and manufacturers should buy your idea with MOD1 3 gear transmissions... Too bad your MOD1 gearboxes do not have a differential (for tuning... ball diff {traxxas pro ball diff or the MIP version} or a planetary you can fill with fluid like the hot racing) to custom talior the performance and also provide good all terrain handling... spools are awesome yes for durability and drag/straight-line racing... but poorly for those who want surefooted traction in varying conditions (circuit racing off/on road, and most bashers {including me lol} prefer the simplicity and reliability of a gear diff because ball diffs are often outside the skills of an RTR user/average hobbyist)... keep up the great work!
The stock diff is almost bombproof! It’s the weak link if you’re running cvd’s. I have the old nitro stampede (gold chassis) and used to bash that thing daily. I think I’ve replaced the the stock diff two maybe three times over 15yrs, Robinson racing made the inner gear set for the diff, those with the aluminum idler and stock gears should take lots of punishment, be lighter and help absorb the on throttle landings. Keep the slipper, adjust it correctly, it’s there for a reason. Unless you’re truck pulling I guess. I used to work at two hobby shops and be entertained by the guys that replace everything in aluminum and then bend those expensive arms and break all kinds of stuff. Give things a place to break that’s cheap, easy to change and always available. Plastic spur (even on gas) mip arms, hard pins, aluminum suspension mounts and hubs. Bust A-arms and spur gears. Thick gooey grease to tune the stock diff and light thin grease with that plastic diff housing will reduce drag. Steel outputs with the stock universal shafts are a bashers friend. You’re running Traxxas, you’re not “racing” on a serious level.
I put a slipper eliminator on my 1/10 brushless erevo and have yet to have a plastic spur gear last longer than 10min. It is straight power to wheels now. No holding back. Found this as i am looking to upgrade my blown trans in my 1/8 stampede. It will be a winter project. Got it on my channel.
Great vid bro...i have definitely blown out 2 stock diffs....since I've locked up one stock with JB weld....and the other I got the exact same hot racing locking diff...no problems currently. ..A++
what's up brother I have a 2wd slash maba monster X system I was wonder what would it take to get a mod1 transmission, I have mod1 gears but transmission inside is still weak snapping drive shaft gear pen on slipper clutch shaft, I made a few upgraded drive shafts with a tire wheel pin works fine, but mind was blow seeing the whole mod1 trans, I want it lol let me know what can be done. thanks for all your videos learned alot.
yo custom rc I'm working on a custom transmission for my rustler. I think I almost got it. Same gear almost(dif gear). the rest I think I have a good idea with sizes they are but I looking to get the most out of my gearing. I got an question...with that gear setup on ur transmission. would u have to gear it down some to keep from over heating the motor. or do u go to a lower kv motor. just wondering..
How about the RPM hybrid gearbox… is that a good one? Yes it uses rpm’s blend of nylon/plastic but also has a metal mounting plate for the motor for heat management and strength at a good price
How did you get the locker spool to fit in the hot racing diff? I just got a new diff but won’t fit I know on the website it says there not compatible.
have you got a link for that HD gearbox. I can't seem to find it. I'm building my first rustler and I'm taking your advice on a bunch of this. plus would you sell a mod 1 gearbox like yard got there? thanks for the video.
How is it possible to get that pitch for those gears in the gearbox. Mine keep failing and my im only running a 3s 4pole velioneon system it seems to breaking from sliding and having the brakes on. Im running the rmp case and ive yet to try another idea and that to extend what bolts i can and use a nylon nut to hold it from i guess flexing? And the last time i broke another gear i was running nimh battery 7cell. Please and thanks for the response or responses!
Funny you should make a video on the Traxxas rear wheel diff's. I've tried all & i find that the HR diff case with 5000k oil works best for higher speeds. Good deal.
I'm very interested in the 1.0 mod gear box and read on a forum you were selling them. I know it's been a few years since you made this video but are they still available?
I already knew that about mod1 shit theres no secrets about it even if you would had kept it to yourself ppl already knew about it,thats why theres fb groups about rc related shit and i been on this hobby for 20 years doing drag and track racing
Im issuing a challenge to my brothers out there to try and duplicate this gearbox with your own twist on it. If you want to be the fastest you have to put your thinking caps on and think outside the box.I have faith you guys can pull it off.
Hey Bud, those are some tuff looking gear boxes you’ve assembled. FYI- street cars run Posi-tracs and they have clutches in them similar to a Slipper Clutch. They slip in corners just like a slipper does. However real Drag Race cars built strictly for the track run Full Spools which have NO slippage at all because we don’t care about turning. What you have there is a “Full Spool” not a Posi. Looks good.
I'm looking forward to may..if you build another and except paypal... .but in mean time can you give me idea on what you think would be a good prebuilt gearbox..I have no problem building one just don't know what good parts to put in...and it seems like you know your stuff..
Make sure the slipper clutch does slip, dont lock the spring nut all the way in. This is the same principle as the larger scale Bajas, the difference is those have poly inserts to cushion the impact. Any word on this mod?
I put hardened gears in my aluminum hot racing case and still diff gears busted ! Put full spool in & holding up great only thing is vehicle doesn’t turn as good !
Hey Brian. Did I see a smaller spur gear inside the bigger Mod1 spur gear? By the way thanks for showing us on how to get rid of the slop. Mine has no slop thanks to you my Friend. A lot of tapping, but worth the time.
I was referred back to your channel to see if you can provide part #'s for 32p idler, drive, and diff gear. My rig is heavy so gearing can be an issue as well as drive shafts. I've build my own dri e shafts that are bulletproof but havent found quality internals. I dont have heat issues more actual gear issues, I've never torn up my Robinson spur and pinion. I run a locked diff so stresses are often high bashing. Not the end of the world if you dont have the info or dont want to release it. All the best to ya.
Hi Todd , the gears i used in upgraded gearbox are Mod 1 gears , not 32 pitch. The idler gear i use is from a Traxxas E Revo. You can find on ebay or maybe local hobby shop. I hope thats what you wanted to know
"ATTENTION" Jess34753 Sparked the Idea of a mod 1 gearbox. Custom Fast Rc 100% designed and built the gearbox in this video. It IS NOT a coppy of anything out there.
Very nice of you to put Jess name out there bro. I got respect for you on that brother. I got mod1s in my trams case with a lok too. And I too have to say Jess shared that information with me. Props to you my brother! Jess is a cool dude
EDGARRIVALKING 562 i run s 22t pinion with a 90t spur on my slash with a 1950kv motor on 4s it runs around 50 mph 3s is around 38 mph witch is plenty for bashing👍
