Installing the steering column, turn signal switch and testing - EPIC FAIL! Ugh! If you know why they are acting funny please post a comment or reach out to me, I wonder if it's because the rear wiring harness isn't plugged in???? Here's hoping! Hahaha We'll find that out in the next couple videos though - the bed is almost ready to be put back on the truck!!!! FINALLY!!!

I had some similar issues on my 78 Bronco. Cleaning up the grounds at the bulb helped but didn’t solve mine. That and cleaning up the gauge cluster connections. If you need access to a wiring diagram let me know. Also hate electrical stuff but saved me a bit. I’d start with what another commenter said about ensuring it’s still not working when hooked up correctly. I believe it will do that if it’s not getting the connection in the rear.

Replace all the bulbs in the instrument cluster & upgrade it to a digital flasher if one is available. Clean ALL the grounds including the turn signals on the truck. The external bulbs obviously have to work as well. It's also a good idea to pull the harness and check it's condition. In fact, just getting a OEM type of replacement is probably your best bet.

The turn signal lighting up is a ground issue in your dash wiring. I've seen the exact same thing when I missed one of the ground wires for the gauge cluster.

That is great news because that’s an easy and inexpensive fix! Thank you so much. It’s gonna be a min before I get back to that, just discovered a major issue in the rear end! 😩 Tried to drive it and one wheel seizes and the other gets all the power. Hoping it a brake issue and not something inside the diff! 😱

Does it make the car go forward and backward? Then it’s not busted! If it doesn’t do one or the other or even worse NEITHER - it’s busted!!! Hahaha. But seriously, there’s so many things that it could be you’ll need to have someone take a look if you have concerns. Noises? Check engine codes? Lots of detail missing.

Ford has a tendency to ground the cluster through mounting try mounting it the rest of the way to complete ground.

True, but they are not always the cheapest. When on a budget build I have to find the least expensive but still quality parts I can get. I’ve found Amazon to be a great source for parts. Shipping super fast and the feedback on the parts is valuable in knowing if the parts are good quality. Keep watching though, I spend a LOT of money at LMC in future videos. The only place I could find certain parts. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thats why i use my blinker sparingly on my ‘78. Trying to keep those new contact points working for years to come.

in theory once replaced they should last for years to come as well. These originals lasted for 20+ years, with light usage these new ones should last a lifetime!

Flashers may be bad but you have to have the bulb hooked up to get them to work. Check all the bulbs so there is a draw on the flasher to make it flash. Also has to have a good ground.

Hi mate , I am from Australia 🇦🇺, I am putting the same steering column in my truck , with new wiring loom , do you please have that steering column wiring diagram for the tilt / cruise control?? So we know what every wire is for ? Thank you, well done 👍🏼

same thing happens with my 78 ford ranger left signal works when off but the right signal and hazards works when ruing

If you haven’t figured out the blinker issue yet, try plugging in your tail light harness and make sure all your bulbs are good.

Open up your gauges and see if the circuit bored is messed up there like 60 bucks make sure your getting the right one though look up 79 Ford F-250 circuit bored it’s also called printed circuit board and if you take it apart you can clean the plastic face mine looked great after a good cleaning inside and out hope this helps

You have a short somewhere. The fact that the left blinker comes on and only the left blinker indicates that something back there has failed whether it is a relay or a switch. Maybe a connector is bad somewhere on the harness. I had no idea that you're in Utah, I'm just down here in saratoga springs. You look farther north.

You just have to get a multi meter and start ohmsing every component and check for voltage everywhere.

Sounds weird but check your grounds and your headlight switch that’s what fixed my 79 turn signal issues

One of the first things I did to my 78 was rip all the old wiring out! I will replace it with a new Painless direct fit wiring kit. Wiring issues can haunt you for a lifetime.

Yeah those things are $800.00 but that is way it’s going to take me years to restore my truck! Save for a month to do 2 hours worth of work on my truck!

John I have not yet reinstalled a wiring harness just yet. If you got to LMC truck they sell a direct fit wiring harness for our trucks. It has all the same plugs as the original one. I am pretty good with wiring and I figure it would take me about two days to remove and replace the entire harness. That is with a helper.

Don't use thread lock on the screws, they need to be bare metal to metal for ground and tight. Also check or put new bulbs on all four corners, and before that clean out the bulb sockets or replace them. And check your fuzes and flasher.

Check almost any ground you have for corrosion... I've read that it creates a whole bunch of headache's from something as simple as that! Check your instrument cluster circuit board for corrosion too. The circuit board is flimsy and disintegrates over time... You can find replacements online. But for the time being you can clean the copper connectors with a little.bit of elbow grease ... :) Enjoyed the videos fellas! Take care and God Bless from Northern Michigan :)

@@troysgarage your left turn single i would start by testing for power with a test light in your bulb cucite and work your way back to the front of your truck no better time to check the wireing then when your box is off and your right side most likely u dont have a ground working by the way keep up the awesome. Im not surprised you're having electrical problems, all of that wiring is over 20 years old and has God knows how many people have shade tree mechanic'd on it. I have a 77 F150, and electrical problems are the worst thing to have to try to fix, because you fix it one day and another can pop up.

I have 76 F250 with the same problem, I have no idiot light power no left turn signal and my right signal is very slooooooow!! Being that it's 47 years old could use a rewiring job but I might price what it would cost me if I go that route.

Everyone knows the 6 digit odometers roll over, my 78 f150 reads 43k But it’s probably closer to 430k 😂. My truck unfortunately has the same issue with the turn signals and brake lights.

Turn signals will never work right on an old vehicle missing one bulb and both your tail lights are still out

Breather: just line the tabs up on the valve cover, and give it a quarter turn. Simple

Honestly I think my issue was a combination. I did change the switch in the steering column, and I had corrosion in almost every socket. Cleaning it all up and making sure I had good bulbs all around was key. I think all of the above chased all the bugs away. Hope that helps.
