thank you for this video, truely. I had a bad day yesterday trying to put my column back together and couldn't get the turn switch housing to seat back flush with the shifter housing. feel really dumb now after watching this video. Again thank you.
Been searching for someone, anyone with information on this planet with this same issue. My 86 E350 lost the turn signals. All lights are good, , flashers also. Just no signals. They worked no problem then one day nothin! What a pain in the butt. Just can't beat FOMOCO engineering. Thanks very helpful.
Thank for making this, got 1979 e-150 van I need to replace the switch on and a hell easier after seeing someone else do it. Just got to hunt down the switch, everyone I've talked to so far in town doesn't has it available.
My local autozones don't even carry it anymore, which is nuts since I live in Idaho, where no one gets rid of f150 trucks. Last place I saw with one was Napa and they wanted like $200+. Sadly looks like my specif part is $68.79 on rockauto so I'll keep looking till I find something cheaper. Need to get it running so we have a second rig but it's need a new battery and other electrical issues since whoever had it before us did a number on it's electrical. So need to keep parts as cheap as possible since our budget is tight. Then I need to find the free time to fix it, I work graves and been pulling 48 hours weeks. Sadly probably won't happen till tax return time or later when we don't have snow on the ground. On the plus side gives me plenty of time to hunt down and get parts.
I have a '78 F150 with the manual transmission, same color as yours. I think I have the same job: left turn won't signal or return to 9:00 position; right turn works. I need a new steering wheel anyway, so may as well do the whole thing. BTW, I use the same method of tool organizing that you use. ;)
Still slop in shifter. Linkage seems tight. Once in R,D,1,2 - the indicator/collar can move almost to the next gear down. Park is solid, because of the machined bracket. Is it the wear on the shift lever and indicator housing?
You got very lucky with that one. Mine came with cruise control and everybody was trying to figure out what was wrong with it and it was the blinker switch the whole time I had a hard time trying to find one with cruise control and your video was helpful to me because I believe that’s the correct one on the backside of the steering wheel. You’ll see where those two go into the grooves.
Thanks for the info, and love the truck but one question: after an hour or two of driving, don't your boots get a little soft when you use those steps, with the exhaust right there? Love the look and might steal it for my 74 F350, but may redesign if that's an issue. I am also a user of the OSHA certified Jesus sandals, including all but the deepest winter, including while welding and doing heavy work, so I may need to rethink this lol
If you replace your turn signal switch , feed a long wire through and make it long enough so that you can pull one wire through at a time. Without losing your guide wire, then pull it back and get another wire, there should be nine wires. DO NOT REMOVE THE SHIFTER HOUSING.. .
Hi I’ve just finished one just like that and I used weed eater line and it was ice cream. Good luck to all whom have to go through this mess/ stuff Lol
I replace my signal switch that in the column and my signals still not working not getting power to my relay ether but when i turn signal on hold my brake the signal cut off my brake light and don't flash just off i run new ground don't know what else to do replace all bubs
My 77 has the turn signal flasher unit glued to the fire wall, 4" from the headlight switch behind the gauge cluster. I would have never found it without taking out the panel and unhooking the left AC vent it was behind. There is no way to reach it other wise.
That “extra wire” is connected to the extra “horn thing”... it’s actually meant for a steering wheel which has cruise control buttons on it. I have a 77 f150 with factory cruise. I have not been able to find this turn signal switch with the wire/connector needed for the cruise function. Where did you get this switch at?
The first Holley carburetor had a manual choke. It was a huge pain. So I went electric. And just never removed it. I had thought about making work something. But never did.
how did you figure out witch wire went where with the new signal switch im having trouble with mine as far as witch wire goes where in the oem conector because the wires from the old one dose not match my new one
