just subscribed enjoyed your uk appearance Sunday night have just watched this episode absolutely fantastic views and what campsites loved the spaced out pitches on park3 right by the river as well keep on going
Larry wants to drone like you. 🤣😂 You are wearing a jacket? Envious. It’s so hot 🥵 here. $15 a night? I’m loving small parks. Our current spot is one of eighteen. So close to the water 😃. That does look like a nice hike. Deer ❤️ Very interesting historical facts. That town reminds me of the town we just moved away from. DeLand, Florida. Great B roll. As always. Too bad there isn’t more of the fort left. I bet it was packed for Memorial Day. Yes. Waterfront. Another one. Thanks. Alice
Thanks Alice! You've summed it up pretty well, and yes Pierre was in the low 60s as we filmed those on-camera shots so a light jacket was a must for me.
Very enjoyable. Debating a vacation trip location. This helps and looks good. Thanks so much! Was the Mickelson Hike and Bike Trail near there. We got on it one year near Custer SP at Pringle.
Liz, thank you. If we're not mistaken the Mickelson trail runs north/south through the Back Hills, whereas Pierre is nearly smack dab in the middle of South Dakota.
Thank you so very much! I believe that our site number at Fischer's Lilly Park was number 12. Your comment is very much appreciated, we appreciate having you as a viewer.
This is absolutely the best RU-vid channel for RV road trippin'. Your videography and reporting of nearby areas of interest are exemplary. Please, everyone, share this with your friends and family that enjoy travel in the US! Marc (and team) deserve much better exposure.
Was up that way last summer. We stayed across the river at Farm Island State Recreation Area. Smallest state capital is Montpelier capital of Vermont Population, 7,705 I was there last spring. Not to far from Ben And Jerry's creamery.
Wow...so incredible that you were in my hometown of PIERRE, SD!!!!! I lived there in the 70's, graduated from Riggs HS, and what a trip down memory lane, to see the river, the capitol and Oahe Dam again. LOVE that you are going through America's Heartland, and showing us the "flyover" country that is the Heart of America!!! Thank you for this video!!!
I grew up in Pierre and Fort Pierre. Went to Riggs High. This video takes me back to a different world. Excellent video. I was Vickie Freeman. Class of 1973.
It looks like a beautiful place. It also looks very windy. I feel like I have as good a towing set up as you can have . Last year in Arizona and New Mexico got blown all over the place. Speed limit was 80 miles per hour I had to slow down to 65 or so. I thought I was going to have to surgical remove the Tundra seat from my a$$ when I got to the Grand Canyon. Did you have any issues getting to SD?
LOL @ the surgical removal, Danny! We get buffeted by winds all the time -- WY, SD, even in our home state of Utah. Most frustrating is watching the gas gauge drop with a headwind. We're using a Fastway Equalizer E2 hitch, and it does a commendable job of keeping everything straight, but there are definitely some white knuckle days.
Thank you TFL! Although the campsite we stayed at in the park at Fort Pierre was water/electric only, there's a dump station on site that was directly across the street from sites 1-3. The Oahe Downstream Campgrounds also included in the video are also partial hookups.
@@GrandAdventure thank you so much. It is always nice to know if there are individual spots that offer it or if there is a dump station as you leave. We have a large family and can barely make it overnight with out having to dump. Your video and photography was beautiful. New subscriber here. Thank you for the info. Many blessings on your travels 🌞
Excellent video, does youtube give an "Academy Award"? Hands down you would be the winner for videography and reporting. Thank you again so much for sharing your Grand Adventure.
Marc, I've been following you for some time now and enjoy you videos each week. I like that you have stayed true to your style and presentation. Keep doing it your way. You have a great RU-vid channel. Thanks for sharing
Hi Marc, always look forward to watching your videos every week, they are so much fun. I sold my little teardrop trailer last week, and as a celebration, I ordered one of your t-shirts. Can't wait for it to arrive, but I'm in Ontario, so it may take a while. I've done 2 trips to visit my son in Colorado and Utah with the trailer, but now it's time for something more serious. I'm looking to convert a van for my future grand adventures, probably starting in the spring of 2021, or when ever life blesses me with the opportunity. Your first pronunciation of the name Pierre was correct in so far as french goes, but people can say it how ever they like, it's not important. Pierre is Peter in English, or rock. Blessings to you and your family and your doggie. :)
Thanks as always Suzane, and be sure to send us a photo with the shirt! Congrats on selling the teardrop, and here's wishing you great success in your upcoming van conversion.
Thank you! Full time RVing is the time of lockdowns has been challenging, but not impossible. I was sheltering-in-place by parking on my daughter's driveway until the landlord decided to sell the property (in spite of governor's orders) so I had to leave. I saw that you were still traveling and it gave me courage to hit the road. It was surprisingly easy to travel from state to state as long as I followed local regulations. I appreciate your information throughout this time!
You're most welcome. Indeed, we've encountered no issues whatsoever, you just need to pick your states carefully based on what each state is presently regulating. We've been surprised at how many folks are staying home, but there's no shortage of the rigs on the road right now.
Don, we only move on the weekends as we're tied to our computers and phones Monday-Friday for work. So when we move, we make big jumps, usually 300-400 miles on a weekend. Sometimes less, sometimes more.
Wow - never thought i'd see a video about Pierre. i was there in the early 90s and got a personal tour inside the Oahe dam - generators and all. The dam is certainly the most impressive thing there
I have been watching your videos for quite a while now and recently subscribed. Since I have started editing my travel vlogs on my channel I have a new appreciation for the hard work you put in to make these vlogs. Awesome USA 🇺🇸
Thank you so much, both for your kind words and the sub. We'll definitely check your channel out! Yep, it takes a ton of work, nearly an hour for every minute of edited video. You can bang out a vlog pretty easily if you're just talking to the camera, but we like to do so much more.
Wow, nice campground , and $15 a night? Terrific! We seen your sweetheart hiding inside the RV. Tell her to come outside and say hello. :) Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I moved to Pierre literally one week before this video was shot, right after covid hit. Lived there for 2.5 years at the St. Charles before retiring and moving back to Louisiana. Obviously a lot different than the South. It's very isolated, 30 miles from the interstate and then another 2.5 hours to get to Sioux Falls to the east or Rapid City to the west. Never really assimilated into the community. Not the most welcoming and inviting place on the planet. Experienced two relatively mild winters and half of one beast. Here's my drone footage of Pierre. under four feet of snow...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r_Z48Sez1Yw.htmlsi=sXnEIeyWz-UYXWwe
Nice! While we were not a resident, and instead just a visitor, we found the population to be very warm and welcoming to us. Sounds like you had a very different experience.
Marc, has anyone ever told you that you are like the Rick Steves of U.S. travel? These places you find to visit and camp were not on my radar but could be in the future. Safe travels!
One more beautiful location. I think...in the future anyone asks me "Lucretia, why in the world do you want to go on the road in January?" I'm just gonna direct 'em to u! :)
Bring 'em on! And on a side note, whenever I see that name I can't help but think of the song "Lucretia, My Reflection" by The Sisters of Mercy: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IuezNswtRfo.html
@@GrandAdventure I guess that is too be expected in the snow belt area. I spent a winter near the Okanagen Valley up in Williams Lake, BC. It wasn't too bad. By April things were heading into spring and May was beautiful. And they are further North than South Dakota. Gord
2 out of 4 isn't bad. You got Pierre & Fort Pierre right. Oahe is pronounced ah-wa-HE. Not ah-wa-HEY. La Framboise is pronounced La From-boy. Finally you Fort Pierre Chouteau right with the proper French pronunciation of Pierre.
@@GrandAdventure yep, but local dialect. We pronounce Chouteau different than Missouri and Oklahoma does. I have no idea how Pierre Chouteau pronounced it.
Just watched the video for the third time and showed my sisters my van’s 15 minutes of fame in your aerial shots! Good depiction of the area. Congrats on another beautiful Grand Adventure episode!
