Keto is about LOW CARB HIGH FAT. What is the healthiest fat to eat? Animal or plant? What are the body’s requirements for fat - structural and energy fat? PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acids) are the only essential fatty acids we HAVE TO consume because we cannot produce them internally. So why are PUFAs maligned? What about 3 and 6 omega fatty acids. In this video the CARBADDICTIONDOC breaks down the role of fat in our diet, what’s best, what’s bad and what really does not matter. Using LOGIC based on SCIENCE he tells it like you should live it.

Now imagine taking this fear mongering one step further, and saying animals fed grains are really bad in their omega 6 makeup and so the solution is that we ONLY eat grass finished and pasture raised. Real food eating and raising animals in a natural state is always best. But we shouldn’t be fear mongering people from wellness for all. Thanks Dr. Cywes. I have zero seed oils at our house but we don’t get scared from eating at restaurants. Looking forward to chatting soon. 🥩🧠

As you know ruminant fats are protected from excess linoleic acid, regardless of their diet but for a lot of people fats from monogastric animals is a significant portion of the linoleic acid in their diets and we don't know it is safe, so better safe than sorry and eat mostly ruminants.

I would argue that warning against seed oils is not "fear mongering" at all, but sound nutritional advice... Which generation worldwide has _ever_ used seed oils prior to Procter & Gamble? And when did the global crisis of metabolic illnesses begin but _after_ the advent of these oils?

Fair comment Doc, nice to see someone more in line with Dr westman. The only seed oil in my house is seasame. I don't freak out about consuming seed oil once in a whole or even having cheat meals once in a while. I never eat bread or pasta, rice once in a blue moon. That's because low carb is not a diet for me, it's for the rest of my life. My diet is on the phd spectrum, and for me to decide where and when I want to be what part of that spectrum. I am a carb addict in remission, thanks to you I recognise that and I'm very aware

I don't allow any seed oils in my home, period. And I don't use lard because of the high linoleic acid content. I use a tiny amout of olive oil on occasion, but mostly I use tallow, butter, or ghee. My goal is to keep my linoleic acid consumption as low as I can. Conversely, this frees me up a bit when I go out to eat with friends. I don't have to be such a stickler because I know the occasion exposure to it isn't gonna kill me.

Although I don't eat any seed oils at all, I do believe that following a very low carb diet tends to take care of most issues all by itself. When your body can use the resources it stores and you can live life to where the body says, 'time to eat', it will regulate the food intake as it is designed to do. Types of 'foods' that we could not find in nature tend to disrupt this cycle and that is where we go wrong. Nature does not provide abundant fat and carbs together as a rule.

I always feel sick when I eat a steak or fajitas from a restaurant that was cooked in seed oils. I've been keto for 5 years and I never react well to anything cooked in seed oil. Sometimes I get diarrhea, heartburn, and occasional acne. This is why I stick to mostly cooking my own food with animal fats, olive oil, and coconut oil. I am not sure why some people like me react negatively to seed oils, even in small amounts. I've noticed peanut oil gives me acne, corn oil gives me severe gas and bloating, and Grapeseed oil gives me heartburn. I appreciate your work Dr. Cywes. You're awesome.
@AnnamariaSedai

You are not alone. I can always tell if the restaurant I go to used seed oil, since o will always break out in acne within hours or by the next morning. Sometimes I’ll get heartburn, but almost always the acne. And I’m not someone with “bad skin”, I didn’t even struggle with much acne as a teen. But now with seed oils, or if I eat a large quantity of nuts, it’s like clockwork.

High-oleic seed oils from specialty-bred varieties are probably less-bad. Soybean and rapeseed/canola (and many other seed oils) have relatively high omega-3 but it’s alpha-linolenic acid, which I think many people have trouble converting into more-usable omega-3 fatty acids.

Seed oils have been identified as one of 2 main offenders in the last 50 years. In concert WITH the excessive carbs, they have worked to destroy our health. But your point is well taken, that if we scrub the processed foods and carbs from our diet, we will have removed much of both offenders. In small amounts, our bodies can probably handle the level of oxidative stress, aldehydes, etc we get from the PUFAs.

Because I have already removed the majority of seed oils in my diet and eat a ketogenic diet. @joerandom157
@joerandom157 2 года назад
I think this is completely wrong. Omega 3 and omega 6 are very susceptible to peroxidation and thus causing LDL to oxidize and cause free radical damage. I boosted my omega 3 while controlling for omega 6 and I had a very high level of oxLDL numbers (quickly terminated that experiment). It's dangerous to suggest that seed oils are ok in moderation just because you aren't eating carbs. The way pufas lower cholesterol in the first place is they oxidize in the liver and cause damage, and then liver and immune system basically trap them there. I think omega 3 and 6 are necessary. But the amount that we need them is so small. As more support for that: our body temperature (98.6) is above pufa oxidation points. We're not fish, so we should be consuming foods that can maintain stability at higher temperatures. Pufas are very fairly criticized. Too much research exists out there (and more is forthcoming) to support that argument too. That being said, whole foods carbs are not inherently evil. Just don't eat seed oils.

"A stick of butter each day is more harmful than seed oils"....isn't that statement doing the same level of scaremongering that the others statements do for the seed oils? I get it, the topic is complex.....but on the other hand we're told "don't eat carbs" - "don't eat too much / little fat" - "don't eat too much / little protein".....apart from the issue of what is "too much / little" - there's really not much left on the table. What is this supposed harm over time from butter? I keep hearing people say this, but no one wants to describe the mechanism therein... I did decide not to pay 3x as much for my Vitamin D3+K2 gelcaps just to get coconut rather than sunflower oil. But I do notice more inflammation if I have a meal from a restaurant. I suppose they could be sneaking in some carbohydrate too, but it really does seem related to the cheap oils. Commercially made sauces like mayonnaise, marninades and dressings can be 0 carb but still contain a TON of these oils.

My biggest concern with the seed oils is how quickly they degrade. People have gallons of these oils in their houses and a significant portion is rancid. When this same oil is packaged in animal products because the critter is overfed grains (e.g. pork) then this creates a situation where the fat in the meat turn rancid unless kept a very low negative temperature. As a fun fact the same happens to humans, so the storage of human remains takes some forethought because this fat breaks down faster at higher negative temperatures

Seed oils are made in factories!!! They are NOT natural!!! So if you want to live a "clean" life with natural food, factory made PRODUCTS are not a part of it. If your body can tolerate to eat the SEEDS/NUTS in their NATRURAL form, you can't get to much of their oils. My Fibromyalgia gets freakin' mean by only one serving of shawarma, because it is made with seed oils. (The spices don't bother me, so I make my own shawarma with proper fat)

Because processed foods are full of seed oil, most people are overboard on their omega 3 vs 6 ratio. I refuse to eat any of these industrial highly processed oils. We have not evolved to consume this amount, and it leads to chronic inflammation.

But, Doctor, the mere fact you said that seed oils can be used "minimalistically" and "from time-to-time" seems to be cautionary to avoid it altogether; unless you're in a bind -- like being at a restaurant or elsewhere for a meal... But I get it, carbs is the true villain.

@@robertcywes2966 I get the concept, but in my culture carbs are primarily flour and cornmeal dumplings, a variety of yams and potatoes -- including cassava foods, green bananas and plantains, breadfruit and rice; none of which have to be prepared using seed oils: most of which are prepared by boiling... Are these starchy foods okay, then?

@@joerandom157 And that's my point... I suspect that seed oils are the main culprit, and a close second are processed grains, then mass-produced roots. And while we're on the topic, it is worth also indicting the excessive use of antibiotics.

I am mostly carnivore but due to unforeseen circumstances I am on a tight budget. This means lots of inexpensive processed deli meats such as meatballs, sausages, salami and ham. There are trace carbs to be found here and some seed oils. However the amounts are small. To ensure that I have a strong Omega3 to 6 ratio I eat 10 smoked mackerel fillets each week. A relatively inexpensive, oily fish which I happen to enjoy 🙂

The simple solution would be to avoid Frankenstein highly processed, low in nutrient fake food seed oils.
