It was a nice surprise as watching it live in Ireland starts at around 1am. Really really looking forward to the Foghat and Joe Walsh appearances in the next couple of weeks. Would really love it if you could upload the Foghat Home in my hand track from 1974 as a separate upload, as I cant wait that long to see their final track from MS... PLEASE ;-) Your weekly shows are a bit of fresh air and the earlier shows from 1973 to 1976 were loaded with Classics continuosly

I was born a decade or two too late, should been born in the 50's instead of the 70's by the music and things I love, lol. Jim Dandy was the man- and went they brought Ruby Star on board with her huge jugs and mile high pile of red hair and Janice Joplin vocals- wow man!

I had a friend in high school, himself an excellent drummer, who claimed that Tommy Aldridge was great. I never got it. It sounds like he can't tune his kit, and the band is just terrible.

Steve Goodman was as great a singer/songwriter of the 70s as his more famous peers (John Prine, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, etc.) and a heck of a guitar player.

Researching them I found they were formed in Kansas City, Missouri in 1962. The members met in high school. In 1967 the band was backed by a large Kansas City horn band known as the Smokin' Emeralds and performed at a venue called the Place in the Westport district of KC. By 1971, the band consisted of Melvin Webb on drums, Roger Durham on percussion, Charles Love on guitar and vocals, Charles McCormick on bass, Harry Williams on percussion, and Willis Draffen on guitar. They moved to Los Angeles to secure a record contract. The band also replaced its drummer Melvin Webb with Eddie Summers, who they met at a recording session. They were called the Sinceres but changed to Bloodstone before the debut album was released. The band charted thirteen songs between 1973 and 1984. Nearly all of the members have passed. They originally ended in 1986 after they broke apart. They later continued to tour and perform with original members Charles McCormick, Harry Williams and newer member Donald Brown. The hits include Natural High, Give Me Your Heart, Never Let You Go, My Little Lady, We Go Back A Long Way, and Go On & Cry.

@@vernonandrews6310 I read about that back then. I think Roger was their drummer. Later I heard about singer Jim Croce killed in a plane accident on 9/20/73. He was scheduled to be the host instead of Seals and Crofts.

Bob's 82 and he is touring the country. It began after a long European leg of his Rowdy Ways Tours. He started this month on October 1 & 2 in Kansas City at the Midland Theater. Exactly a year earlier he was in KC at the Uptown Theater on October 4, 2022. It's been over 60 years of Bob and his friends including Joan Baez.

Wow. I remember seeing this episode when it originally aired. 50 years ago. Joan Baez on the same bill with Black Oak Arkansas and The Pointer Sisters. Joan singing "I Dreamed I Saw Joe Hill". Steve Goodman, still young and in good health. Seems like a million years ago. Thank you for posting this.

Back in the summer of 1973. I worked the midnight shift as a janitor at a mall. In Texas. Had to be there at 11 PM. And had to leave the house at 8 PM to be able to hitchhike 14 miles to get there. Missed every early Midnight special

Early Steve Goodman. He passed away from Lukemia in 1984. Most of his career he was ill. He wrote City Of New Orleans and performed a faster version than Arlo. John Prine was hired by a label in 1970 and refused to join if Steve, his buddy, didn't get hired as well. He played City Of New Orleans for Arlo Guthrie and let Guthrie record his famous version. He then co- wrote with John Prine You Never Called Me By My Name which was a song spoofing country music. David Allen Coe had a hit with it. He didn't have big hits himself on the charts but had critically acclaimed albums. He was from Chicago and he wrote two songs about the Cubs. A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request and Go Cubs Go. He kept his illness a secret, having first been diagnosed in 1974. He passed in 1984 at 36 years old. Some of his ashes were spread at Wrigley Field in 1988. He was primarily a folk, pop, country and singer-songwriter. Many artists recorded Steve's works including Jimmy Buffett. He once was opening for Steve Martin comedy tours. Kris Kristofferson was another act he toured with. Goodman was survived by his wife and three daughters.

Love Joan Baez, especially her tune about Bob Dylan “ Diamonds and Rust ”. When she sings in Sing Sing Prison with her younger sister Mimi Farina, “ Viva Mi Patria Bolivia ” it’s spellbinding, gorgeous harmonies (check it out) and also the song written by Donovan but performed together “ Catch the Wind ”. Mimi’s tune here written about Janis Joplin-a huge favorite of mine is fantastic, what a story she weaves in our minds. Great show tonight!!🩵

For the moment that the song played I didn't think of anything but the music. When it was over I drove home to tell my husband we were about to be 3. That was more than 45 years ago!!! 45!! yikes

Heard "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" when I was 6 years old (flip 45 B side "When Time Is Stolen") in late 1971 or early 1972 when my older brother got the mono 45!! Robbie Robertson R.I.P.. The late Steve Goodman song "Would You Like To Learn To Dance?" from his 1972 debut on Buddah Records (kaleidoscope label which became the maroon brown logo in late 1972) was also the flip B side of "The City Of New Orleans" which the late Johnny Cash said "The best damn train song ever written" & besides Arlo Guthrie in 1972, Willie Nelson did the remake in 1984!!!

My sincere condolences for the recent passing of producer/director Stan Harris. According to a quote from him in the 1997 documentary book by B.R. Hunter, Mr. Harris mentioned how this was the episode which the then controversial appearance of Black Oak Arkansas was cause for losing the show's original sponsor. I thank the late Stan Harris for that interesting mention.

What a blockbuster talent line-up. A big thank you to the brilliant Burt Sugarman for creating this masterpiece of a show to which this bug-eyed teenager was glued every week and his kindness in making them available to us once again fifty years later. Wolfman Jack was a huge fan of Joan's and sang her praises at every opportunity. The rare footage of Joan and Mimi together was very poignant. A nod to the wicked wit who suggested that Joan could best serve her campaign to end torture by pulling the plug on Black Oak - right on! Poor Jim Dandy was still trotting the stage 40 years later with some 150 pounds added to his frame and minus his talented backers who had long fled for greener pastures.

Don't think I have ever seen video of Mimi Farina. She was Joan Baez's sister. In later years, she traveled with her because Joan had a lot of stage fright and Mimi could calm her down. When Mimi died of cancer some twenty years ago, I remember Joan saying how lost she felt.

I do not think sher appeared on any other US TV show...she did appear in several programs on The BBC in the late 60's and early 70s unfortunately..knowing the BBC the footage was probably erased. But I know she was on between 68-72

I have a movie on DVD called celebration at Big Sur and I think Mimi is in there and she performs. I remember watching the Woodstock movie and hearing Joan talk about Mimi's husband who was in prison at the time. 😁

Found one! Search for "Episode 16 - Rainbow Quest by Pete Seeger". Features Mimi and her husband Richard. This was filmed late 1965, or early 66 I believe. Richard died shortly afterward in a motorcycle accident.

starting around 41:53 I keep replaying over and over at very loud volume the song 'Best of Lovers/Friends' with Joan Baez and Mimi Farina, their singing voices are so amazing together, it made me cry several tears thinking about a former lover hehe. And also missing my dad, he said Joan was his favorite. So good!! Thank you so much for the fantastic audio quality, so crystal! Love this! Very awesome to see Steve Goodman in there playing his guitar for two numbers! Love the Pointer Sisters as well, awesome recording of them!
