Another great tip! Why guess at Toe In when there is a great method to optimize it. Thanks again for a short, sweet and yet informative video!

Awesome, very well explained. Question if you have bipolar towers like the definitive Technology bp3000tls are there any problems with placing them behind an at screen with the center vertically to match the mtm of the mains? the towers have rear firing speakers? Can these kind of speakers be used behind the screen and toedin when there also bouncing sound off the wall behind them n the screen? Thanks again, I just love your videos, even the long ones, as you explain things in a way that just sinks into my head and leave me wanting more!

I setup the speakers using my view of the sides of the towers as a reference. there is a specific toe-in angle in which the listener's view of the cabinet side is always the SAME for both speakers as you move laterally across the MLP plane. It doesn't matter if you are 30 degrees off axis to the left or to the right of a speaker; the response will be the same at that angle.

You could use an SPL meter or umik one also for this correct?

I have 6 fiber glass 2x4 panels. Is it best using 4 on side wall early reflections (2 per wall) and then one in the rear wall and the other in the celling, or may be better to have the side walls covered with one panel horizontally. That way I can use the other 2 panels elsewhere Thanks very much

Ever try Masters set and rational speaker placement process? I got amazing results using speakers for music playback and good results using same speaker setup for home theater.

Couple questions: 1) I have an existing screen wall that has attic space behind it, and I want to toe-in ProAudio Technology in-wall speakers. Do you have a resource to point me to on how to do that? I have to somehow make the wall angle into the attic space, because I can't really afford to come out into the room anymore! 2) What's the latest and greatest recommendation for covering the screen wall - linacoustic/plastic/linacoustic or something else like 2" rockwool? Thanks

If you only have one main listening position in a really small room, seated 6ft away from the speakers, would toe in still work? Wouldn't they make the sound a tad more bright? I just got the Denon X3700H which to me is on the brighter side. I always wanted to try toe in but not sure if it would work. 🤔

Since there's only one seat in my HT that really matters, I find myself adjusting toe to get my desired 2-channel soundstage. When listening to music I find that if speakers are toed directly at the listening position the soundstage collapses to the center of the front wall. I toe my speakers in just far enough that the soundstage spreads out evenly across the front wall. I have 4" Owens Corning 703 panels at my primary and secondary reflection points for left and right front channels so I guess I need the extra bounce...
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus 4 года назад
Yeah I should probably do another one on two channel or tweaking for one seat. This one is of course getting good sound across a row so the goal is a little different.

Any chance of a video on comparing room correction software (Audyssey vs Dirac)? Thanks.
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus 4 года назад
Yes I'll soon be covering Audyssey. Dirac will depend on if I can get my hand on a AVR with it to test. I'll say that both are very good if you know how to set them up and use the software. It would be very hard to tell the difference. Blind test have been done where they were set to the same target curves and they were indistinguishable.

I will have 3 in-wall Triad Silver LCRs behind AT screen as front stage. L&R will be about 20-21 degrees off center from MLP. In your opinion having experienced these speakers, how detrimental would it be if I could not toe these in via angling the wall? The screen will be retractable and these speakers are not in the corners, so aesthetically it would be preferred to have a straight wall without two short 20 degree angles where the L&R speakers would go. Seating would be 3 seats wide with middle seat as MLP. Outer seats would each be about 30 degrees off-axis of opposite LCR. Much appreciated.
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
Triad is only sold through dealers and they are responsible for assisting you with the layout. I actually do full layouts for all belayer sales. This really should be answered by your dealer as helping you here is part of his dealer responsibilities. Like any speaker toe in can and will drastically change the sound and sound stage. With Triad inwalls I do a false wall/bass trap wall that looks flat but allows them to be toed in. You're a tad close as well which you likely know. I really like to be in the 25-30 range to get a larger sound stage.

@@hometheatergurus Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate you taking the time. I will certainly run this by my dealer. I’ve learned a lot from you in this channel so appreciate getting your opinion. They are a bit close, and I do have room to widen them outside of screen. My issue is that I’m likely very limited with my front wide channel placement (9.2.4) and those will be at around 40-42 range (anything beyond that is open space to other side of basement). Hoping they can widen the sound stage for me while I keep the LR tucked in. Thanks again.

You pick a point (main listening position) in the room to take your measurements. I have an episode on calibrating for reference that covers it.

Is there a way to pay someone to give me best placement for my speakers If I send them my room dimensions. It's been a nightmare trying to get it right. I have a cove on the left side and an open archway on the right. I've got six absorption panels and I've spent nights trying to get it right. Tried making a wall to eliminate the archway but the cove seems to amplify reflections and sounds like speaker is directly side of my head

I have contact info in the description however I don't really like to "remotely" take on rooms that are cut up or really odd shaped as modal behavior isn't as predictable so I can't guarantee the results. Rooms like that really need someone on site. Of course I have episodes on how to do that yourself. One being ep 7.

I have been using my HT at only 4.1 until my center channel arrived. However, once I tried my center channel i was disappointed. Everything is set up really correctly but I still think the 4.1 gives better sound. Voices with 4.1 have more depth and dimension and more "soundstagy" versus the center channel which voices seem confined to just one specific part. What gives? I have tried several movies, mixes and 4.1 sounds so much better. I have good LR speakers and they are towed in and at 11-12' apart. My room is perfectly square. Sitting at 15' away. Even if Im not dead in the middle, I dont think the 4.1 loses much off axis. Any tips?
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus 4 года назад
Horizontal centers have issues off axis so you are on to something. In a dedicated room with multiple seats an identical center (identical to the mains) is absolutely best. With a wide row though you need a dedicated center to get good coverage. In a living room I honestly don't use a center. Horizontal centers have issues and don't look great Imo. Years ago I removed the center from the living room and found the same results as you. Perfect timbre, perfect vocals, no off axis issues and a cleaner look. Now you have a much smaller sweet spot so it's not going to be ideal for a dedicated space but for me where the living room is sports and cartoons it's perfect. Of course I can crank it and fill the house with music too. If I want an awesome theater experience it will do that too as long as you sit in the two seats that really get great imaging.
@NoRoads2AllRoads
@NoRoads2AllRoads 4 года назад
@@hometheatergurus its exactly that. Imaging doesn't sound as good with the center. And depth. I have everything setup correctly but everyone seems to think that I have it setup wrong that it has to sound better with a center - well not to me. All crossovers, setup, Audyssey and I even checked everything with a SPL meter are correct. With just LR speakers, the voicing seems wide, clear and has depth. And the voices actually pan from Left to Right or vice versa depending where a person is standing on the tv (if more to the right the voice has more weight towards the right etc). With the center, everythging seems so focused to just the center area. I can almost pin point it. Yeah this is just a living room and our couch has about 3 seats, and I have tested with all 3 seats and they all sound great (maybe because of distance our 3 seats are angle wise almost considered center from screen/center speaker). Someone closer having a wider angle between them and speakers might notice more of a gap in the middle. So all this to say Im not crazy rgiht? I think ill return my center speaker instead of having a 300-400$ speaker as an expensive paper weight that i wouldnt use.
@welderfixer
@welderfixer 3 года назад
I have to very much agree. Very often the center channel hogs the attention. I may be wrong, but I feel it is because of the extra speakers in the center that makes it overwhelming. Of course, the receiver pushes more to the center when it turned on, so I have turned the level down on the center 2-3dB from the LR speakers. Music sounds better on 4.1 and the DTS music setting. I might turn the center off for a week without telling the family. Then show them the difference and make a group decision about it.

Wouldn't toeing in also be predicated on screen size ? Say the screen edges are some ways in from the edges of the room , adding L-R speakers to toed in edges of the room may create a sound stage that is out of sync with the on screen action ?
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
Your screen is based on angles (viewing angle ), your speakers are also based on angles, if your speakers are far from the edges of the screen either your screen is way too small in viewing angle or your speakers are way too wide apart in angle.
@rocknreelin
@rocknreelin Год назад
@@hometheatergurus I have a wide wall and my 140" screen does not reach the edges of the wall . I think in this case toeing in is not relevant since my speakers would be closer in to complement the screen

The video says to experiment. The amount of toe in or lack of depends on the speakers off axis dispersion and how the side walls are treated. Sounds like you're judging a book by its cover. 😁.

I'm starting to think.... contrary to most advice then, EXTREME toe in will give you a WIDER optimal listening position! If I get more on-axis treble from the left speaker as I get slightly closer (but more off axis) to the right speaker.... then the imaging will stay more centered on a wider area
