Seeing this particular performance with Jim and Maury finally broke me. Jim talking about a future show and receiving a gold record from Burt brought it all back. My first experience of a loss as a kid. You always vividly remember your first loss the rest of your life.

Jim “spoke” to all of us through his music, didn’t he, eh? Still remember hearing of his sad death too when it happened. My 1st loss as a little girl (12), was my friend Jeanette (12), her mom Jean (32), her little sister (5), all drowned together at the lake. Jeanette was in my blue~bird/camp~fire girl’s group and her mom was assistant leader, my weekly “family” for years. Triple open casket funeral was tough we didn’t have school grief counselor’s then. Am still afraid of large open bodies of water but have snorkeled in Moloka’i & Maui, HI., to try and “face that fear” head on 😔. PeacePeople.

I remember it well myself. I had watched this show--I was in eighth grade, and Jim Croce was my favorite--and then a week later, in school, was told by a friend about the plane crash. I was too young to remember JFK's assassination, and I had only a vague sense in 1968 of the meaning of RFK and MLK, Jr., being killed, but by 1973 I had started forming my own opinions about music, and partially defining myself by them, so the loss of Jim Croce hit me hard.

@shyman99 yeah I hear you.. I had a couple losses when I was young teen..my sisters best suddenly passed away at school to this day I still don't know what really happened to her 😬😕 The 2nd was an actor his name was Pete Duel he was in the TV show called Alias Smith and Jones but he ended up shooting himself 🥺😰 drinking and guns not a good thing..he was mad depressed..I just didn't understand it back then...what a shame I thought it was a cool show... Oh I didn't know Pete personally just the reading of it in the newspaper was kinda shocking and not really knowing why he could of done such a thing and with his girlfriend in the other room 😳😥

@@ronaldolaquidara64 - I also remember the news about Peter Duel. I wasn't as connected to him as I was to Croce so it didn't hit me quite the same. Coincidentally, I had a schoolmate pass away during summer vacation a few years later, which was a bit unsettling. A kid who had a heart attack.

You are correct that stage monitors were few in those days, but there were stage monitors on this show. In the wide shots of the front circle area, you can see them just peaking over the lip (they weren't up on the floor). This is another testament to the producer Burt Sugarman, who went the whole 10 miles for his outstanding show.

Yes, it was Episode 40. The artists that Jim mentioned were on that episode except Steely Dan.

Loved this show in the 70's, and love it even more today! All these episodes bring back so many great memories from an incredible era for me.

I think Jim Croce's widow moved to San Diego, California. Just across the border from where I live. I believe she used to have a restaurant there called Croce's.

OMG first time I’ve ever seen a live clip of the Natural Four. My favorite should group. So great, so underrated.

I agree. I first learned of them when watching a "Classic Soul Train" episode several years ago. Did a deep dive, and although they had a great sound, they just didn't have enough good songs.

Sadly Jim Croce wouldn't get to host his show on the 2nd of November because 6 days after this show he would tragically die in a plane crash.

@@Royale_with_Cheeze they have already posted Donna Summers from 1978 ( I just watched "Last Dance 😍😍😍) The Jackson's from 1979 and a bunch of other late 70's performances, so they're not going chronologically. There's still hope.

@@RonaldWilliams-qh7zc they actually have uploaded many late 70's performances up from The Jackson's, Donna Summers and others so they're not uploading in 100% chronological order. There's hope!

@@Royale_with_Cheeze oh I see what you mean now. They’re uploading the full series and some random performances, as well. Ok got it, thank you! I really wanna see Aretha and The 4 Tops perform Stevie Wonders “Isn’t she Lovely” in 1978.
