Ep 333 | Things BREAK on the Sail to Indonesia! Sailing Nutshell, Indonesia

Magnus does the final provisioning shop, sorts out the davits for ‘Hazel’ and our solar panel and we get ready to leave Tipperary Waters Marina for the last time.
We finally leave Darwin and begin the passage to Indonesia.
It’s not long before we get our first hook-up on the fishing line!
We have a few issues on board which desperately need sorting. We have no alternator, so little power and the windlass is playing up again.
We also have a leaking raw water pump!
After a very rolly crossing, we finally arrive at Debut, our checking-in port for Indonesia.
We wait for clearance and then head into shore to get our first taste of Indonesia.
Thanks for watching.
Until next time…
Wendy and Magnus

Keep on waffling it gives those who have yet to sail a great insight into how great sailing is. Question, why are you towing a second dingy? Is it full of contraband, xxxx perhaps?
@LifeinaNutshell
@LifeinaNutshell 11 месяцев назад
Our second dinghy is our Land Cruiser of the sea. We can go just about anywhere in her. She’s too big for us to put on deck or on davits. The Walker Bay is for R & R… she is a sailing dinghy so gets used for enjoyment to sail around an anchorage! W.

It's always great to see you off on a new adventure especially after such a long break but I'm just as curious to learn about your time in Australia, you haven't really spoken much about any of that. From what I understand you needed to get jobs to pay for essential repairs and upgrades on Nutshell and you appear to have been living at your farm for quite a while, from my calculations it seems like you have been living in Australia for a couple of years but it's very hard to tell and you really have done a great job of keeping all that quiet ! I do understand why you didn't go into much detail about that side of things since this is a sailing channel but for a while there I was wondering if you might never get back out and about on Nutshell or if the channel was going to continue at all ! Lots of luck on your new venture, hope this is all smooth sailing for you guys !

Hi. When we returned from Tonga to Australia our intention was to stay for a couple of months, sail north and head to Indonesia and beyond. Covid held us in Australia so we decided to fill the cruising kitty. When we were allowed we sailed around to Darwin to get ready to go west and into the Kimberley once cyclone season was over. It’s necessary here to sit out cyclone season in a safe place so this restricts movement a bit. However, it is possible to move around in cyclone season and we do have the lines on board if we get caught in one, so it is an option for us . We spent April to October in the Kimberley and various islands south of it then stopped again to work and wait for the right winds to leave Australia for Indonesia. That’s about it, in a nutshell! Thanks for watching. W.

will be fun to follow. Lived the about 15 years back in 80s and 90s. A sailor now but not back then. No doubt beautiful cruising grounds.

Nice being, I have my boat ready to leave next year for Vanuatu all being well Or my go-to Indonesia. Re the water pump, Yours is leaking Mine failed early this year, I found in my case that the small Shurflo Microswitch switch is standard in most water pump brands and only costs a few dollars at Jay Car 3 or 4 dollars for an unbranded one as for leaks it is mostly the diagram, the cost to replace is expensive, I found its best to buy a new pump.. Thanks to the UK parts contact, I ended up importing a new starter motor from them, They give great service and savings including postage cost compared to Oz sellers. I am impressed with your charts and what looks like a Google Earth overlay. When you are able, you please tell me how you set this chart and Google Earth software up when you have time? Thanks, SV Skoiern IV

Hi Steve. The boat collar is from Kapten Collars. We love it! boatcollar.com.au. The Walker Bay collar came with the boat when we bought it but I believe Kapten Collars makes collars for the Walker Bay too. W.

The collar on the Walker Bay came with it. It does help with floatation but not as much as the Kapten Collar does on Peanut. I can’t recommend that one enough. It’s amazing! You can get Kapten’s Collars for Walker Bays too. W.
