#44 Daiho-ji
The path from No. 43 Akashiji Temple is about 80 km, and there are many difficult passages to cross.
It is a sacred place that requires a grueling ``pilgrimage'' that takes over 20 hours to walk.
Located at an altitude of 579m surrounded by the Shikoku Mountains,
It is located in the middle of the 88 sacred sites in Shikoku and is called the ``Nakafudasho.''
The history of Daiho-ji Temple dates back to the Yamato Imperial Court era.
A holy monk who came to Korea from Baekje brought an eleven-faced Kannon statue and placed it in this mountain.
In the Asuka period, brothers Myojin Ukyo and Hayato, hunters from Aki (Hiroshima), found an eleven-faced Kannon statue in the sedge grass and built a hermitage to enshrine it.
When Emperor Monmu (reigned 697-707) heard this presentation, he immediately issued an imperial order to build a temple, which he named ``Daho-ji'' after the name of the era.
Approximately 120 years later, Kobo Daishi visited this temple in 822, practiced esoteric Buddhism, and designated it as a sacred temple in Shikoku, and took this opportunity to change the sect from the Tendai sect to the Shingon sect.
Later, in 1152, the entire mountain was burnt down, but Emperor Goshirakawa (reigned 1155-58) prayed for recovery from illness and rebuilt the temple. There were 48 monks in total.
After that, it was burnt down again in the war, and was rebuilt in the Edo period with donations from the Matsuyama feudal lord, and in the middle of the Edo period, it became a prayer place for the Matsudaira family, but in 1887 it burned down for the third time, and it was destined to struggle against fire. It is also a Buddhist temple.
●Point to watch around
