Old tube electronics are the best! Maybe you can restore one of those old console radios from the thirties and fourties. It could be a fun episode of wood restoration and early electronics.
When you were talking about the grain being slightly off from the two halves, my first thought was what my mother-in-law used to say, which was : "A blind man would love to see the difference". If the difference is so tiny, no one will see it (unless you always point it out 😏🙄).
Thanks for sharing the things that bring you joy. I especially liked the Ronnie Milsap soundbyte. Jeanie does a great job helping in the workshop, almost like an Operating Room Nurse. Looking forward to next weeks adventure! 💖💖
Analogue audio and woodworking, what a great convergence! Nothing goes better with wood grain than coffee and tube amplified tunes. Can't wait for some of the Hifi adventures!
Sorry for the double comment...Your blanket chest is coming along splendidly. I have one that my grandfather made 80+ years ago. Not so finely crafted as the one you've made Mike, but well loved and featuring beautiful, mellow and WIDE lumber! I know Jeannie will love hers every bit as much.
The blanket chest is coming along beautifully. I think I’m as excited as Jeannie is to see it completed. My husband made one years n years ago in shop. Remember when school offer that as a choice or Home Economics for the girls. He did his in all cedar n I’ll cherish it forever as he’s passed away in 2021. It’s a beautiful piece. Looking forward to next week. ♥️♥️😊👍👍🌟
That is so genius to make amplifier kits available to people. Are these to mean parts for rebuilding already existing sound systems people own or rescuing old amplifiers and selling them or a combination of both? Can’t wait to see the wood finished piece and the items to go inside. Looks beautiful. I’ve grown to really love woodworking. Keep learning more. Look forward to experimenting with varnish. Rescued a really cool MCM coffee table that needs a lot of work. Planning on making it my own coffee table. The MCM dining room table I have in place of one is a beautiful, chromed - needs some polishing - but maybe a little awkward for the space. Also have two Edwardian Era pieces I look forward to restoring. They are so beautiful. A little taste of the grandeur you’re restoring in your home.
Neither. They will be complete kits to build brand new amplifiers. There's something about woodworking....I always used to wonder why retired men always seemed to be wood workers. Now I get it!
You should start a separate RU-vid channel on vacuum tube amplifier kits. There is a very large audience. I happen to be one participant of that would be very interested in what you are building. I’ve seen some kids that are available today and they don’t compare to anything that you have on your table there, please go forward with the tube amp kit prospect..
Hello! I actually do have another channel for tube amps. I've been quietly running it under the radar. We're retooling the business and should have something ready shortly. Stay tuned!
I wonder if you could mix sawdust with some wood glue and use that to fill the gap between the two short boards in the center of the lid, then sand smooth. Research it first, though, to make sure you think it's a good solution for your piece. I've seen it done on furniture restoration videos but I'm not sure if it's appropriate for your situation. I don't have any real concerns about it filling and sanding well, but I'm not sure about staining and finishing and if there's something special you'd need to do to make it just disappear and not leave a line! 🫣 Just tossing it out there as an idea you could look into if the join bothers you.
Are you going to simply round the edges or give a fancy rounding (to mimic quarter-round)? going to add one of those safety hinges so it doesn't slam on fingers?
And hey, if you're wondering if you have a bad tube, just go on down to the grocery store and use the tube tester! (Are you old enough to remember those? Strangely, I was just thinking about them the other day.)🤭
