Like most summers I find it difficult to restrain from canoe tripping. All my goals and ambitions seem to take a back burner for a few months while I get lost exploring the Great Canadian Wilderness. However, this summer we've got a new objective for our canoe tripping which is finding the perfect place to rest our cabin. As I explain in this video, the cabin we are building has been designed to be transported to a remote wilderness location. This video brings you along on one of those expeditions.

Props to you guys. That's a lot of effort and passion to build a whole cabin with the plan of taking it all apart and putting it back together again.

Wow, what an ambitious project from build to move, but without ambition, there’s no progress. Good luck with finding a place. I’ve enjoyed watching the build, and will really enjoy watching the move!

Funny you just posted this video. Just a couple of days ago you randomly popped into my head and I wondered who owned the property you were building on and if that would pose a problem in the future.. Did not expect that you would dismantle remove and transport eventually to a permanent place. Very cool. Good luck!

Yeah, I bet. I can't take the news to early in the morning. I wait until I'm driving and turn on the radio for a few minutes to make sure the world isn't crumbling and then go back to my own little world.

I think your idea is top shelf Trustin. We're no strangers to water access only building here around Vancouver Island. On any remote location, pre-fab is the way to go. I only hope municipal and provincial building codes don't come along and screw with your plan. Stay under the radar if you can.
@TrustinTimber
@TrustinTimber 3 года назад
Thank you. We have a tone of unorganized townships around here. So no permits, and building regulations and low taxes. I just have to make it to provincial code.

The videos I've watched that made the walls like you're building the wall, they put insulation in the horizontal grooves of the log, that way the R value was the best value they could get out of the situation.
@TrustinTimber

Yeah, I will, but we have to move it first before we set it up for good.

Take the cabin into its new location in the winter on the ice.
@TrustinTimber
@TrustinTimber 3 года назад
Yeah, that's one of the plans. I forgot to mention that. However, most locations we are looking don't have a solid freeze up due to moving water but that would make it a lot easier.

Ok, I love watching the cabin build and I can’t wait to see a cabin dismantled and moved to a wilderness location. This will be unique. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it attempted before…at least not without a helicopter. Have you considered moving a single finished log to a wilderness location as a proof of concept? Sounded like you were suggesting floating the finished logs. Taking a finished log thru the move process with a deep soak and drying would let you check how dimensions could change and prove out if the rebuild would go as planned. I can’t wait to see how the move and rebuild goes, but I can’t help saying that I think you’re bat$h!t crazy. The New Jersey hospital makes total sense.
@TrustinTimber
@TrustinTimber 3 года назад
You touched on my biggest curiosity /concern as well. How much will the water effect the pieces. I'm telling myself that heavy days of rain don't do all that much, just a bit of swelling. The logs will have a few coats of finish and Ideally the logs are in the water less than a day. However, I should do some tests. There is a river at the bottom of the cabin build site I can drop a few logs in. I should take some measurements and test that. All my joinery is pretty husky half laps so it would allow for some movement.

What a delightful place it will be! From Merriam-Webster: History and Etymology for Hospital; Middle English ospitale "residence for pilgrims and travelers … borrowed from Anglo-French, borrowed from Medieval Latin hospitāle, going back to Latin, in plural hospitālia "guest accommodations”…

It's possible with certain strokes like the "J" stroke of the Canadian stroke. Once you understand the principle it just takes some practice.

Anything is possible but no, the intention is for it just to be a vacation property. A place where we can disconnect from the world, spend time with the family, reconect with nature and practice bushcraft and survival skills.

All right now I know this is a dumb question but why do you have to name your cabin everybody in the world that owns a house don’t name the house if you live in your cabin full-time then why do you have to name it?
