Regarding Chat's reminder that believers may be offended, if you are going to do an episode that discusses the lengths people will go to not to offend believers, I recommend listening to Salman Rushdie's conversation with Walter Isaacson on Amanpour and Company, if you can get to it. Rushdie was describing the cultural differences in how Americans will much more curb their freedom of speech than the British will do in order to not offend. He wishes Americans would get over that squeamishness. Walter said he would be anguished to ridicule someone's beliefs and asked Salman if the fatwah influenced his thinking on how open one should be. Salman said, well, hell, yes. I'm paraphrasing all of this, obviously, but it was such a thoughtful segment, I wish I could give you a better sense of it. It did make me re-evaluate how comfortable I would be to challenge someone. For example, by not confronting someone about damaging cult beliefs, I think politeness becomes complicity. And certainly the cult members is missing out on an opportunity for a reality check, and they don't get many opportunities for critical thinking. Being politely silent winds up hurting all parties, I now think.

When current leaders say we don't know where the BofM events took place, they are ignoring that earlier prophets , most notably Joseph Smith himself, "knew" exactly where these events took took place and taught it. Why do we not just take his word for it? Because those places are archaeologically clean.

I loved the for and against. It was a valuable way to share about the lack of true claims info. I felt Rebecca was trying so hard to keep it light but John kept being so annoyed. Rightfully so. Once a person can see the lack of truth in the BOM elements it is difficult to unsee it. Wanting our loved ones to understand us is normal and painful. So many insights. Thank you. Rebecca it was funny and and I have accepted the truth about it am so it was enjoyable. I weeded my yard and listened.

The evidence against the BoM didn't touch the suspicious nature of the Witnesses of the plates. Probably because GPT is smart enough to also notice THE PLATES WERE NOT USED IN ANY TRANSLATION. The witnesses are irrelevant if they were covered/not even in the room JoS was dictating the BoM in! lol

22:30 #9. Liked the comments about the abs.... We can't have flabby Lamanites becuase chat GPT knows that most people were not fat before the early 1800's. It wasn't until Sylvester Graham in 1829 Developed the Graham cracker to help combat the problems he saw.. In order to combat these s3xual urges, Graham advocated "a number of lifestyle changes, including eliminating meat, fats, spices, condiments, coffee, tea, and alcoholic beverages from one’s diet, abstaining from using tobacco, exercising regularly, wearing loose-fitting comfortable clothing, and sleeping on hard mattresses with the windows open, even in cold weather. " He was the father of the Vegetarian movement. This was in 1829. Sounds familiar... Maybe in 1833, JS copied this and made this a section in the D&C as the Word of Wisdom. So why was this information already here on earth if the word of wisdom was a revelation? JS knew about this, copied it, and decided to use it ... If you want abs today, A) whole foods plant based low fat (no highly processed anything) or B) Carnivore w/no highly processed food). Word of Wisdom kind of goes against when Lehi and his family were wandering in the wilderness for 8 years and eating raw meat diet 1 Nephi 17:2. Sounds like they were doing really good and I'm sure they had Abs.... Word of Wisdom contradicts this...

The BOM does not mention coinage (only in the chapter in the heading), rather a system of weights & measures. Coins evolved from standard chunks of precious metals for trade, and didn't really begin until about 7th C BC Greece. It's theoretically possible coins were known in Lehi's time, but not likely to have been used in Israel at this time.
