@@shooter1721 I'm in the Allentown-Bethlehem area. I typically shoot rats and pigeons on farms in this area, but it's been slow this summer. I was recently looking if there might be rat-shooting opportunities in that area, like a weekend trip. Any suggestions?

just looking for target shooting (plinking, Short range target, long range target?), purely hunting (what kind of species and range?), or a flexible/combo use gun? Budget? Do you prefer traditional gun set-up or bull pup? Repeater or single shot? Primarily shooting Bullets/balls or diabolo pellets? Hand pumps work (if you're willing to use them), I use a "Spritech PCP handpump, 4 stage" off Amazon, costs $125. 4 stage is easier to use than 3, but the 3 are cheaper to buy. I hand pump, and my air gun has a large reservoir, so the 4 stage is nice to have. If not interested in hand pumping, look at a compressor. If you have power out at your shooting location, I would go with a GX CS-2; which can also run off a car battery. ($370) If you are more remote, I would go with a GX EL-2, which runs off of rechargeable batteries (like for a cordless drill), and can have a 110v adapter added to it (if I get a compressor, I'm looking at this one) ($400) I don't mess with scba tanks... they cost, they need recertified periodically to get them filled; and if you have a pump or compressor, what's the point?

@@wildrangeringreen I would like a flexible/combo gun. I would like to use it for plinking and hunting. I do not know what bull pup is. I prefer repeater. I do not know what a diabolo pellet is...I'm ok with bullets if they are the best for hunting. I'm in my 60's and recently had five back surgeries (I'm a disabled vet), so I will go with the GX EL-2. Thanks for the help/info thus far. Not looking to spend $4,000 or more, but can easily do $3,000.

​@@robey60 Not to worry. Bull-pup designs have the action/magazine/breech back at your shoulder, with linkages connecting the trigger to the sear (like the FX Impact in this video). It allows for a shorter gun, albeit in a bulkier, more butt-heavy package. A more traditional set-up would be like an Gamo/winchester 70/35, an XP air rifle or an Airforce. The traditional design keeps the balance between your hands. In firearms, an example of a traditional design would be the M4 or Savage 12, while a bullpup would be the Steyr AUG or Keltec RDB. Diabolo pellets are common, wasp waisted air rifle projectiles (they kinda look like a bowtie from the side). They're drag stabilized (along with the rifling). They also slow down pretty fast and don't handle supersonic speeds well. Also hard to produce at home, so you're stuck buying them (anything over .177 is going to get expensive fast). They come in a variety of weights, but are generally limited to the lower end of projectile weights for a given caliber. Bullets and balls- you already know what they're about. They're spin-stabilized; and they can be made heavier, very aerodynamic and retain energy better at longer ranges. Easy to make cheaply at home with a mold and lead. I'm assuming small game hunting- A couple ideas, bearing in mind that the magazines of these rifles aren't long enough to accept a very long/heavy projectile (.5" length might not fit); which isn't really that big of deal for 50-100 yard small game and targets/plinking: Traditional w/ balls, bullets- AEA Challenger 32" barrel in .30 FX Dreamline slug liner Bull-pup w balls, bullets- AEA Challenger 32" in .30 FX Impact w slug liner Traditional w/ Pellets- Umarex Gauntlet .22, .25, .30 Air Venturi Avenger .22, .25 FX Dreamline with pellet liner Bull-pup w / pellets- Air Venturi Avenger .22, .25 FX Impact w pellet liner
