That is just _unbelievably_ crude. When shaft-drive bicycles were being built by the thousands, back in the 1890s through 1910s, at least they used helical gears, so that there wasn't as much gear-lash. This one, with straight-cut gears, is going to feel like riding a vibrator; every time two teeth mesh, you'll feel a bump. I mean, that's _the least_ of the problems facing this "bike", but it's certainly one of them. Others drawbacks include the fact that exposed gears, which have to be lubricated to reduce wear, will collect dirt and begin grinding each other, the fact that there can be no freewheeling (you won't be able to stop peddling and coast), there is only one forward speed, and changing a tire is going to be a challenge.
I'm prety sure he still has free wheel he is using the stock free spining rear sprocket but come on who cares about free wheel when you have to pedal a thousand miles per hour just to get the bike to move. His gearing is so far off that the bike is useless. All that said I don't believe that was the point of this bike I think he just wanted to show that he could build a bike I mean he definitely wasn't going for perfect look at the steering hub lol or that tiny pivot for the rear shock, or the fixed in place seat, the fact he didn't paint his daughters rims or handle bars alone tells me he didn't plan to use this bike he just wanted to make a video. So good for him but maybe next time put more time into quality and not a flashy build. Thanks!
the guy welded metal chuncks to a nut, put that in a drill press, then used the drill press like a sideways lathe whilst using an angle grinder to smoothen things over (only for it not to matter as the nut was welded to the shaft at an angle anyway). Build quality was never the object here lol
I ha e a drive-shaft/chainless bike in my storage locker. My great grandfather brought it over from Europe in the 40s/50s? (Can't remember dates) when he immigrated here. I've never actually taken a ride on it, but I've heard that they're super smooth, and of course, you never have to worry about popping a chain
Serious suggestion; two wheel drive. Please... I don't know if it's possible but it would be very interesting to see your creative take on two wheel drive bicycle.

I've made chain sprockets using dividers and drills. It's a challenge. Those drive shaft bikes are nothing new, I've seen 100 year old pictures of racing bicycles with shaft drive set up.
A good idea worth wild only if was done more clean Job I see it a single speed bicycle it frame hand made can you do a road bike the same way or a size 29 bike frame with same transmission !!??.
Looks great! Rides ok though, there is a hell of a lot of slippage on the real wheel gear that was made tbh. Maybe try the same sized gear disk, but use smaller nuts to make the actual gear sprocket. Could also try rounding the the nuts down a little more so that they fit into the rear wheel gear a little better
