I think this hand is a microcosm of Addamo's tournament philosophy, why he crushes tournaments while other pros just make a living. The guy just recognizes the value of having the big stack in the late stages of the tournament, and that current ICM models underestimate how valuable this is. An ICM model might say if you have X% of the chips then you'll Y% chance of winning. What Addamo realizes better than his peers is that Y is way too low. By being the big stack, you get to open extremely wide and bluff people off lots of equity. You're actually going to win a lot more often than ICM models estimate by exerting this pressure, especially in tourneys where pros are cognizant of their role of being tight with a middling stack at the final table. You rarely ever see him come to the final table with a middling stack... because he's taking a boatload of risks like this in the mid-stages. He cashes less than the average player despite being considered the best in the world. This is because he takes very risky/marginal bluff/bluff catch spots to try to build the big stack he can weaponize the rare occasions he actually does make it deep. This call, while I haven't seen any solver analysis, is almost certainly losing from the way we currently view ICM. You block Qx spade combo draws, and the other big stack shouldn't be 4-betting you very light. So most people would say that given the pressure of having your tournament life on the line, you should fold. But Addamo realizes that when he does call, though he'll bust quite a bit, the times he doesn't he's going to have an extremely high chance of winning the tournament, an even higher chance than computer models would predict given his ability to exploit middling stacks as ICM pressure intensifies. While he's not making completely spewy plays because he's "in it to win and not an ICM nit," he is pushing the lines and taking more marginal spots, so he more frequently has a large stack when does make the FT and can win the highest prize more often.

he was checking if he has the Q of spades. that was the last desicion point. if bill could have that there would be a real possibility of a combodraw getting there. but since he blocks that possibility the descicion was then made. seems like he had some little live read until the river klein isnt that strong but was no longer shure on the river.
@OJuggernautO
@OJuggernautO 2 года назад
If he was never folding there if he put in his last time bank, there would be no point in putting in the last time bank. Literally just wasting it at that point. Regardless, it was a tough spot. So many hands you lose to. Literally lose to every other pocket pair Klein could have except 6’s or lower. Lose to AA, KK, JJ, 1010, 99, 88, and 77 (also technically could have also had QQ for the chop, lol). So essentially he either had to put him on a non pocket pair (unless he somehow had like 78 of clubs/diamonds or 89 of spades/diamonds or something), OR he just said F it, “if you’ve got it you got it”. I do that sometimes. I have a very strong hand, and if they happen to have a better hand, oh well, they win, it happens.
@FranksChilly98
@FranksChilly98 2 года назад
@@OJuggernautO 1.Bill Klein is the opponent out of position and the original raiser. In what “world” is Klein who is 1st in chips 4 betting 77, 88, 99, 98suited, 10’s? It’s automatically based on all the play I’ve ever witnessed of Bill Klein going back to HSP on GSN to today on Live on the Bike or these High Rollers or a Million for One Drop. He’s more likely yes to possibly have Aces, Kings in that position with that type of play. Jacks is a possibility what what’s the math say that he has jacks there? It’s worse than Aces or Kings. It’s more likely he has AK(suited or non) AQ(suited) and Maybe AJ(suited) and he plays those the same way based on his reputation and uses that against this player and this setup. I get it is a tough spot but then against the 4 bet pre. Why not jam? Why waste all that time and energy post flop turn and river to come to the absolute position where your SPR says call on that run out/board. You’re beat, you’re beat and that’s that GG. So am I missing anything?
@Hailsatan13
@Hailsatan13 11 месяцев назад
@@FranksChilly98 Your comments exemplify why this is a tough spot -- the likely hands you listed Klein to have didnt match with what he actually had. I think its important to consider that a certain % of anyones preflop raise, 3- or 4-bet range will vary into some hands outside of the expected range (JJ, TT, 99, AQo, AJo, KQs, etc), and that may be more likely to happen if you see the person you are up against as having a larger than avg number of bluffs or a looser range for their 3-bet range. I think its prudent for Addamo being prudent and well thought out in his decision brought him to the right call --- as OJugg said, he's probably not burning time chips for no reason whatsoever. This may be an extremely easy call for you in this position at this stakes, but i think addamos approach was reasonable

That isn’t what they would be saying. They would probably say “idt this hand is good enough to bet on the turn. On the river this to strong to turn into a bluff. We have no reasonable value shoves except K9s that choose to 4bet.” Sure we block one combo of JJ and 5 combos of aces but does that make this a good choice to bluff with! AKo blocks one less combo then AJo and has significantly less showdown value. He could also flat kings some % and then we block the same or more hands than AJ.

The thing is though, Addamo only has to be right like ~25% of the time to make it worth the call. there are ~22 combos (77 through AA) that beat him but also just enough combos that don't, I guess

@tccandler
@tccandler 2 года назад
Realistically, there are 22 combos of winning pocket pairs (AA thru 77) that would take that line... Perhaps 16 combos of losing AK that might triple barrel (although all but AK spades would likely check turn). And throw in one combo of QQ that ties. You are asked to call 580k to win just shy of 3 million. This is razor thin... but I think the AK's that check the turn are too numerous to make this a good call. After all is said and done, I would have folded -- and that is why I suck at poker.
@RedditGrapevine
@RedditGrapevine 2 года назад
Preflop you can only realistically get wild with p10’s and 6-bet, even then it’s very very wild. IMO the only combos are AA KK AK QQ JJ and rarely 10’s. So I’d be inclined to call. What are u just flatting pre for if u aren’t happy with that run out? JJ is the red flag, and again, quite unlikely to be 6-betting with JJ
@grindix
@grindix 2 года назад
AK non spades doesn't necessarily check turn in 4 bet pot ; much more likely to barrel with addamo seemingly capped. The 8 on the river bringing in a one liner is what might have undone Klein; making Addamo wonder if he would still shove AA KK. It made his shove look suspect. With 99 beating overpairs now in addition to JJ TT most players would check and that's what seems to help Addamo make the call. Of course in addition to him beating AK AQ.

I think he knows that Bill knows that the flop smashes Addamo's 4-bet calling range. Therefore I assume Bill is not bluffing all AK combos on the turn, or much at all after the call on the flop from Addamo. So he either picked up equity (AsKs, AsQs) (2 combos) or he already had a gutshot (AQ) if he was bluffing (7 combos). AJ Addamo might have thought of, but it is difficult since Klein should have checked somewhere (again, because of the range advantage, and impossible to get three-streets of value). Bill's value hands are AA, KK and JJ (15), or 12 is he checks all JJ on the flop. Based on the time he took maybe he considered Bill would only bluff with hands that gained equity on the turn? I don't know, he is Addamo, must have had a good reason to think this long with the odds he was getting :) Assumptions: probably not As5s-As2s in Bill's range due to the small 4-bet, no 99s or 10s due to the 4-bet.

well, he is blocking AsQs. Dont think bill 4bet al the AQ combos left and if deff not barreling all. assuming he has 12 combos value, he needs to have at least 3 bluf combos 4/1 odds. Its hard when you hold Qs Qd. I think he is just pure calling based on ak and aq combos being overbluffed by bill.

It's reasonable to call turn thinking Bill will not go too thin for value with overpairs. That board smashes Addamo's 4bet call range. He's got TT, JJ, maybe even 98. He'd definitely sometimes trap with these hands, especially the boats. Which is ultimately probably why he calls. He thinks Bill is a player capable of bluffing, but one who doesn't go thin enough for value in this spot, weighting him to hands like AJ/AK over AA/KK.

AJ shouldnt be in range. Addamo’s making the call vs AK/AQ (especially AKss). He kept rechecking for Qs which might have been swaying him towards a fold. If klein barrels off all AK (maybe some aq) this is the easiest call in the world. The 8 river bringing in the 1 card straight made the shove look bluffier as overpairs might slow down.
@rungoodmuch
@rungoodmuch 2 года назад
It’s a little more complex then you’re making it seem. First off Bill opens mid position and Mike 3bets. Folds back to Bill who has a very good hand candidate for a 4bet. Bill blocks AA/AK/AQ/JJ and knowing who Mike is he can be 3 betting Bill here in position with a huge range of hands. Bill 4 bets and being 40+ bbs here with position Mike decides on a call. This is very important because Mike is heavily undervaluing his hand preflop which I believe leads to the call/call/call line on that Jack high runout. With the sizing all on the flop and turn I actually believe Bill thinks that he’s value betting. I don’t think Bill is merging here and from watching him play he’s not capable enough to believe he’s bluffing Mike off a better hand

misclic 2 in 4 bet pots the 4 bettor has all AA KK. Thats what Klein can be trying to leverage with AK as he blocks these hands. I wouldnt call it a strange line. yes addamo is known to mix it up but this is a huge icm spot with klein the only player covering him. I dont think he s gonna be 3 betting light and even less so get invovled against a 4 bet with a weak range. Klein should know that and his shove is very risky as addamo can very easily have JJ or TT. He definitely should have had doubts as to being behind and tried targetting QQ and maybe KK as he blocked JJ and had all the AA.

Interesting hand. Awesome call. Wonder if that call is solver-approved? On one hand you're getting like 4 to 1, on the other hand you can't really beat anything, especially when you have the Q of spades, which blocks lots of turn semi-bluffs that would have missed. Not sure what I would have done here, but probably put him on TT or JJ and folded. Pretty strange play from Klein. Guess that's what makes him an amateur.

Klein tilted? Addamo must have felt tricked into calling on river against pocket rockets but could find a call (AJ) and gambled (50/50) to gain a spot on the tournament. Or he had to think through how Klein would play aces and found out he would never "slow" play them like this.

This hand was so bad from start to finish. After 4 bet and a call we have bets on every street and snap calls everytime except for 5 mins of decision time on the river. What was Addamo thinking, that he suddenly got AA on the river but was drawing for flush before? And why would Klein 4 bet bluff so high leaving him no chips to bluff with if gets called. I'm not sure about this play from Klein and the river call from Addamo. Depending on how bluffy Klein is, Addamo could reasonably call the 4-bet with all pocket pairs 8's or higher. So with Klein going all in on the river, he is only really putting pressure on Q's, whereas all other pairs would snap call, including K's and A's. Addamo knows that going all on the river against his range is a bad idea with all Ax hands; so him having Q's there is the worst hand to call with. But he is getting almost 5:1 odds, which could make calling profitable.

I wouldn't call this a donkey shove persay. I think the flop and turn bet or more questionable, seems to me the 4-bet caller has way more straights and sets than you... I'd be tempted to range check. It's a really solid bluff once you get there though. You block slowplayed AA and JJ. Just so long as he knows he was trying to bluff out a stronger hand.

@hcantrell10
@hcantrell10 2 года назад
Because the board gets better and better for the 4bet caller than for the 4bettor, yet Klein still puts it in. It’s an extremely polarized spot and that’s yet another data point. The fact that Addamo can have so many strong hands by the river and Klein still barrels off makes it a tough spot for Addamo. He’s not flicking in a call for the price bc it’s a tournament and the chips you gain are worth less than the chips you lose.

@@iambadatpickingusernames6669 This is either a bad call or a very borderline call that you can only make if villain bluffs at optimal frequency (honestly I'm leaning toward bad call but I don't want to just assert it without running the spot). This isn't about "that they never bluff", you need someone who bluffs optimally to even consider calling this. If you believe you're against nits who don't take enough risk, and then you call here, there's an inconsistency. My guess is Addamo has a lot more respect for other high roller players' game than the idiot who wrote the OP believes.

I think ultimately he had to call and he knew it. He just didnt see bill bluffing in that spot. There are 16 combos of AK. and only 6 combos of JJ 1010. 6 AA. So even if you only count the AK bluffs he has more bluffs than value already.
@OsefKincaid
@OsefKincaid 2 года назад
If you just assume that your opponent blasts off all of his combos on every street all the time you will rarely find folds friend. There is definitely not 16 combos of AK in this line.
@iambadatpickingusernames6669
@iambadatpickingusernames6669 2 года назад
I think it's the oppsoite. He could see Bill bluffing in that spot, but he couldn't see him value betting as thin as AA/KK. If all his value is JJ/TT that don't even always 4 bet, then this is a call. With how much this board smashes Addamo's range, it would take a really crafty player to feel comfortable going for 3 streets with AA.
@emanuelemazzarella3813
@emanuelemazzarella3813 2 года назад
I think even if Addamo makes the right call is a really bad one in the long term. You are literally hoping to find AK AK suited spades or A10 AJ that doesn't bet for value but for bluff or something like 66/55/44/33/22 that is going crazy preflop tribetting to take down the pot without showdown but is close to 0 for these 5 last hands. There are more likely AA/KK and sometimes JJ 1010 but with this two last hands and giving the positions of 1st and second in chips i think flatting is also very reasonable to pot control and keep the pot small. And i think that the 8 on the river changes nothing cause Bill with AA and KK prob do the exact same thing and is more likely to find AA KK given the triple barrell and the fact he 4bet preflop. Clearly to my point of view here AJ is a bluff to make fold exactly what Addamo has but i think too that Bill wasn't bet to bluff but for value.
@jf5618
@jf5618 2 года назад
I tend to agree on the surface 10000000% however when Addamo asks out loud “would you ever do this w aces” I tend to lean towards the thought process of “Bill wouldn’t rip AA/KK on this board given the action and he’s rarely if ever 4 betting 99-JJ here given chip positions”. I TOTALLY agree with your thought process and have to believe what I think Addamos thoughts were was how he came to the call. On the surface…fold against Bill (specifically) 4 bet, 3 barrel on that board except for the thought of he wouldn’t 4 bet 99-JJ out of position, with that stack, then shove all in with the over pair. From that perspective, well done Addamo which is why he’s the man right now (plus he’s obv been running well but that call was clearly the call of the final table).

This call doesn't seem that hard. he is beating nothing in the value range, there is rarely a 4bet bluff hand that doesn't connect with the board hard only AK and AQ. you loose to all AA KK JJ like 15 combos and win against AQ and AK 22 combos....its hard to fold when the pot is that big and the river bet isn't even half pot.
