Just blown away on how great the eagle looks and flies, compliments to the wife on her painting skills. I really love how inclusive this hobby is and you have reminded us all to share the hobby with our friends and loved ones.
I just finished my build. I used black PLA and LW-PLA. I'm on the fence over painting it before I maiden it. Thank you Troy! So appreciate your tip on motor braking, that thought never even crossed my mind...
Also to be mentioned : planeprint did a great job for designing parts specially for LW-PLA, all backward parts of wings are very well designed such as printing is much easier that other planes also made for LW-PLA.
17:30 you have that mix backwards; when you pull up, the flaperons should drop, adding lift, you have them raising up, which is reducing lift at the same time the rear elevator is increasing the wing’s angle of attack, attempting to increase* lift. You have it set up so they are fighting each other
I remember when I was a teen of an eagle made of styrofoam that you would fly it into the sky like a kite then jerked the line to release it and it would glide down gracefully like a bird.
At the vet: "my eagle broke his prop" Vet: "WHAT???" Other than that - awesome in the air! Great job. Now i wish it would be an ornithoptere. I know, that's totally different stuff to make, but still ... Great build!
Ya this was something I was not familiar with but Planeprint recommends setting it up like that. It seemed to work well. I set a few clicks up trim up for the maiden and it was a bit too much on the hand launch it pitched up a bit. After getting it trimmed it flew very well.
Tabs YES. I'm a model builder and When I see ppl build 3d printed parts invariably the parts are smooth. so they spend aligning the parts. I always think why don't they add some guide tabs to ensure alignment and add strength to the joint?
Fantastic. I am amazed at the printing process. I didn't know you could create something like this. For you next project can you do a pterodactyl like the one Dr Falken flew in War Games.?
Would be interesting to see a version without the tip feathers for a glide slope comparison, supposedly they are there to reduce induced drag/tip vortices. Might be pylon racers and performance gliders all end up with a 3d printed array of mini winglets at the tip.
Amazing work Troy...I have an RC EP eagle and it flies great, but yours looks so much more realistic and the paint job your wife did was fantastic and so much more true to the eagles plumage...if you ever start selling these I'll definitely be a customer :)
Hi Troy, have to say this eagle is absolutely beautiful! Nice work with the paintjob! I saw you didn’t use accelerator for PLA. Is it just cut off to sped up the video a bit, or you omit that for better glue joints?
Hello, Thank you for the comment yes the paint job is awesome she did a great job with it. I don't use CA accelerator. It makes the glue not as strong from lots of testing. Also it turns the glue joint yellow and for the white build it really stands out.
Just finished mine and ready to paint. How much % elevator do you recommend mixing into the ailerons? I've got about an 80% mix now and it "looks" about right. Great job on the build and video!
What kind the printer you use it for make your models I wanna start with in my own so I wonder is what kind I need to buy it for making my own models. Thank you. Appreciate your help.
Would that print scale up to about 3meter span to look like a Wedge Tail Eagle? Would there be space in the body to have a downward looking gimbal? - thinking about unobtrusive news & sports drone, and being able to glide with mic shielded from wind/prop noise for film makers.
Awesome all the way around Troy. I have a question. How loud is it? I am hard of hearing so didn't really hear it running the video. I know, that subjective but I was wondering if the sound would alert other wildlife.
There has been a few people try to print this in all PLA but unfortunately the CG cannot be set if it is printed in PLA the back part of the Eagle is so light and the head does not protrude enough to add enough counter wight if it is printed with PLA in the rear.
How much the 3D printing machine costs, what other things it can print n where to buy. Is it difficult to maintain n the raw material for the print out.
@@TroyMcMillan Thank you I cant find it in manual, if you can can help, just need to know the lenght of steel wire for elavator Thanks Attached image ibb.co/Sn6BGcQ
Clear / Transparent Props would be a thing now, eh? Alternatively, you could also have your waifu paint a fish on the Props as if the Eagle caught a Salmon or something 🤣
@@Valkyry5 I'm in Texas, north of Dallas. If you were nearby, I would have considered it. Your best bet is to find a local 3D print shop and have them print the parts for you.
Thank you, There were some birds out there when I was flying it and they were making all kinds of noises. The paint job is my favorite part she did a great job.
I've been following your channel and built a PLA Eclipson Model A. I want to try more, but just a 750g roll of lw-pla is $80 shipped to Nevada. $35 of that is just shipping. Is there at US source for lw-pla?
@@dboelens , I have the printer's but have not bought the file yet. These guys make so much more money just selling the files that they don't have to do all of the laborious part. Printing all those parts, I am guessing would take my largest printer a week to create, with alot of trial and errors and throw away hickups. I estimate half a roll of both standard PLA and lightweight PLA (never used before, but just need to purchase). The rolls would cost $20 and $30 respectfully but might print three planes. Are you seriously interested?
@@c.g.4392 It would depend on the overall cost of the parts and of course the shipping. If you would like to split the costs I could do that. Where about are you located
@@c.g.4392 We are interested in getting a few of these made. What ever the cost to make these we will pay for all materials, files needed and what ever you consider it's worth for you to make them. That way you could make some for yourself. I don't know your name or where you live. How can I get a hold of you?
