Epipremnum Cebu Blue care and propagation (with updates)

In this video I share the care tips for the Epipremnum cebu blue, with emphasis on 2 possible growth patterns. One is a trailing one that will produce small leaves, and another will be a climbing one that will produce big fenestrated leaves. This is a beautiful plant with silver/blue sheen that deserve all the hype it got. I propagate this plant in water and in soil, and show you an update a few months later. I also battle southern blight in this video, a deadly fungus that kills plants very quickly.

I legitimately didn't know that the Cebu Blue can get split leaves!! One more reason for me to put this plant on my wishlist! I absolutely love the look of monstera deliciosa, adansonii and rhaphidophora tetrasperma so this plant is perfect for me!!

We commonly see the common form of cebu blue, which is the dragon's tail, here in the Philippines. Locally called "tibatib". It's even easy to find them around metro Manila wrapping itself on an old tree and concrete walls. The cebu blue variety is really rare, originally found in dense forest of Cebu island, hence the name. I have seen a lot of online sellers labeling the regular form as cebu blue, when in fact it's not. So be careful buyers out there. Though I personally love both of them. Even the regular form is a real beaty. Great video by the way!
@brianhardaway9716
@brianhardaway9716 2 года назад
I currently saw a video that described the Dragon tail as Bein the Cebu Blue hence the name and the one that looks like a Monstera as being the fake one. Many buyers are told the Fake one, which never has blue leaves is sold as a cebu blue, but later as the leaves develop and loose the Dragon tail form, it’s said to be a Young Plant? I don’t leave in the Philippines but why isn’t this plant BLUE when its a cebu Blue? I also have heard that both come from the Island of Cebu and are of the Epipremnum pinnatum art BUT one is Blue and the other isn’t? So what’s the truth? Logically I would suppose that if the plant isn’t Blue it can’t be the cebu blue.

I was born in Cebu and my Cebu Blue Pothos is one of my most favorite plants in my collection of plants. Their color is so unusual and the leaf shape too. Mine grew so much larger after I repotted it and had it outside in much brighter indirect light. It has now become so large and so heavy to carry. It’s still in a larger planter as a hanging plant y but so tempted to let it grow upwards to start its fenestrations. Love your videos! Thank you again!

I recently saw a video from the winding root where she explained the difference between this plant which is the Epipremnum pinnatum and the Epipremnum pinnatum cebu blue. As this plant matures it develops a leaf similar to that of the Monstera Monster plant and NEVER turns blue. Whereas the cebu blue develops the color almost immediately, and doesn’t need to grow out of the adolescence phase to obtain the color. My question to you is although both come from the same island, WHY doesn’t the green plant turn blue if it’s the cebu blue? She also mention that Many Owners of the so called cebu Blue have in fact the fake variety as seen in this video. Simply based on logic or the process of elimination, I use the concept of, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, What is it. So please explain this, since you live in the Philippians.

@@brianhardaway9716 I actually live in the US but was born in Cebu. I read about the Tibatib from someone and I know that to be quite common. The Cebu blue is a plant I acquired in the US. Mine grew quite large and full and it has allowed me to propagate several cuttings already. I can’t explain anything regarding your inquiry as I am no plant expert but I can only say things from my personal experience

@@ProximaCentauri88 thanks a lot. I was tempted to get one but thanks to you and other Plant Parents I now know the difference. The plant that I was about to gets Mutter wasn’t a Cebu Blue which meant that the leaves wouldn’t split. There’s so many plants that are so similar sometimes that One has to be well informed or you will buy what you think is something and it’s something else. Like the Alocasia Polly and the Frydek for example where the leaf form looks similar but one is smooth and shiny and the other plush and soft. Thanks again for the help.✌🏿

Whenever I propagate Cebu blue wet sticks, I do it in sphagnum moss in an airtight container and give it a bit of fresh air every couple of days. It will sit under a grow light because I am in Northern Canada, but so far every single one has rooted and been able to pot within a month!

I’ve had a whole cutting with 3 nodes in water for a couple of weeks now not knowing how to proceed. Thanks for this idea of sphagnum moss in a terrarium setting which I will definitely do asap. Is it also viable to use peat moss instead of sphag moss?

@@ma.reneemagtibay-rivero8059 I've not used peat moss for them personally, my worry there is that it would be too moist and would rot - but again, im not sure!

I enjoyed your video a lot even if this is the most stressful propagation video I've encountered. Hahaha... I guess the plant experienced much trauma it needs to see a plant therapist! ; )

Cebu Blue here in Philippines is everywhere (here in Mindanao at least). People even sell the "variegated form" here in our town.

Attach a second moss pole on top of the first moss pole. When the plant grows to the top of the second pole, cut the stem where the two poles meet. Boom. Two full moss poles. Makes propagation easier

I have a very fenestrated M. Siltepecana. I airlayered the growth that grew beyond my 5ft pole so I only have to remove the leaves the free off my pole.
