When driving need to give pressure to pedals (clutch, brake, accelerator) at steady level and in various intensity. For this need to make sure foot is properly rested on ground so that body weight not get applied on pedals and for this its best to place the back of foot firmly pressed on ground so that with top portion of foot can give pressure to pedals at various intensity and in steady level especially for controlling clutch and accelerator.
Thank you very much for sharing your views. It helps a lot. Having found the clutch pedal of my Ritz (Zxi) sitting bit high I I have been seeking advise on this. I can't plant my heel on the floor and press the clutch pedal comfortably in Ritz. Half of the people I asked (including experts /online forums/videos) told to rest the heel on the floor and pivot the foot when operating the clutch and half of them told NOT to rest the heel on the floor as the clutch is meant to be operated by the whole of the foot (not touching the heel on the floor / they wondered how one can press the clutch with heel resting on the floor!). Which car you are using now by the way? Thanks again for assisting..
I have tried Ritz during driving lessons, in that too heal can be placed firmly on ground. May be you can try with different footwear for this purpose. Find a footwear which is bit heavy on heal side. Without resting heal on ground its bit difficult to apply steady pressure on pedals. This firm heal rest on ground is very useful when interchanging with brake and accelerator as when interchanging heal position is unchanged and only move sideways this help in changing gears smoothly, also easy to find brake during emergencies.
As you told resting the heel on the ground inspires confidence and help apply steady pressure on the clutch especially when moving off from standstill and half clutching. For the brake and accelerator I rest my foot on the floor and pivot and it is perfectly comfortable for me. The problem arises when it comes to the Clutch only in Ritz which i too observe is set a bit high compared to other cars. As my instructor told me not to use footwear while driving for better feel, I used to drive barefoot. which I feel is not a good practice. I hope as you told a proper footwear (shoe) can solve this problem. I would be eager to know your view on driving barefoot vs with footwear. Learning is always a pleasure and I highly appreciate your assistance!
Yes in my case too during the driving lessons instructor told me to use barefoot and he kept me on like this for over 20 days which I feel is the worst as with footwear its so easy and also able to keep pedals at steady levels easily due to the added weight of footwear. With barefoot resting the foot on ground not much an issue as not much weight on foot and also easy to move but the problem is need to give more pressure with foot which is discomforting too especially maintaining half clutch and full stop in traffic. With footwear doing H test is also easy compared with barefoot as with foot wear we can maintain clutch position steady which helps to drive with constant speed. Anyway always drive with footwear and also try the best to drive with heal rested on floor as its easy and also for safety reasons as with heal rested on ground no foot movements needed which help to reduce reaction times.
