Black Ownership in Sports
Magic Johnson is officially a billionaire, joins Tiger Woods, LeBron, and Michael Jordan ,only the fourth professional athlete to reach the benchmark following a lucrative post-basketball career as an investor in professional sports teams, movie theaters, Starbucks cafes and a health insurance provider.
The 64-year-old Johnson also owns stakes in a trio of Los Angeles professional sports franchises, including the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers and the MLS’ LAFC.
Forbes now estimates his net worth to be $1.2 billion-the result of his stakes in those teams, and major investments in a slate of industries, including a 60% stake in Iowa-based life insurance company EquiTrust he purchased in 2015. He’s now worth 1.2 billion.
Tamia & Grant Hill moved to Orlando in their 20’s
ORLANDO, Fla. (Oct. 28, 2023) - For Tamia and Grant Hill, joining Orlando City SC and Orlando Pride is more than just an investment. It's an opportunity to give back to the Orlando community that has been their home for the last two decades.
Twenty-three years ago, Grant Hill was traded from the Detroit Pistons to the Orlando Magic, a career move that first introduced him to the City Beautiful. After just getting married to Grammy nominee Tamia a year prior, the two quickly grew their roots in Orlando, beginning and raising their family. The Hills spent seven years after the new millennium living in Orlando, where Grant played for the Magic, before continuing his NBA career in Phoenix.
Both of the younger Hills, Myla and Lael, played soccer growing up in and around Orlando, and so, it was their kids that got Tamia and Grant Hill involved in the sport in the first place. Around the same time, the Pride began their journey as a franchise in the NWSL.
According to a news release, the Hills have been recognized as leaders in the Orlando sports community and season-ticket members over the years. Additionally, they’ve also made notable contributions to philanthropic causes that include organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Make-A-Wish, Special Olympics, and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida
Deion Sanders wants NCAA to pay for stolen Jewelry
The Colorado Buffaloes took a couple of losses Saturday as the team was punished on the field by UCLA and pilfered off of it, with multiple CU players alleging jewelry was taken from their locker room during the game. Since then, coach Deion Sanders hasn’t stopped whining about the transgression, and is now asking to be reimbursed by the NCAA for the stolen items.
Mikey Williams-ACC/ Colleges should implement programs for things like this for students. If you really want to help inner city kids who make it this far but because of the environment they were raised in these situations can happen.. something like this.. because then it resonates with Michael Irvin telling his son he was raised in a gated community.. but does that really make a difference
Memphis Tigers freshman guard Mikey Williams will remain away from the team amid the ongoing legal process regarding his April arrest, the university announced Wednesday.
