Ok, I have always wanted a Flicka 20, as it seemed like the perfect boat for me, little and cute, yet... ocean going! And as she will take care of her skipper...if her skipper takes care of her...and: I will! I named her after a Sumerian word SHIIMTI: "House Where the Wind of Life is Breathed In..." What could be better to describe a little ship that will take you anywhere, on the wind, moon, and stars...
The little yacht is well appointed and is also what is referred to as a "cult boat"...as she has a following of those who love her cute lines and overall stout but shippy look...
I am a sailor who learned to sail as an adult, and my family is sure I will "die at sea", if I don't fall in the water at the dock and drown, which they are also sure I am going to do...my so very unadventurous family ensured my heart is in my mouth whenever I plan to head out and I have to rebuild my confidence each time, hah hah...seriously, I love sailing on my own...and do love doing the small things needed on the boat. I hire professionals to help with taking down the mast, painting it, re-doing running rigging, etc., however, I am doing a lot of the little things, and I will be showing these on this little RU-vid channel.
I want to share what I learn, as well as learn as I am sharing, as I will do it all myself, and figure it out and...talk out loud while doing so, hah!

Congratulaions. I will enjoy following your adventures. I have owned a 1978 Flicka for 5 years now that is much like yours, and I love it.

I did similar idea with the head and holding tank while restoring old Catalina. Had the through hulls removed and glassed over by the ship yard. Now have a porta potty. Got a Canadian made roller furling main by CDI no more leaving the cockpit.

Hello! Yes, the removal of the thru hulls is the best!! and roller furling, very handy so you are not scrambling forward while the wind picks up, lol

I love your Flicka. I hv a 1978 PS25 double ender pocket cruiser and am restoring her. They are both sweet little ocean boats. Have fun! Fair Winds 😊⛵

Just discovered your channel! Congratulations on owning a Flicka. I’m 75 and have owned a 1978 Flicka for 4 years now. It feels like a second home. I look forward to following your adventures ( some of which I can already guess), and comparing how you solve problems with my own.

Hello. We have a Flicka and I replaced the Yamaha 9.9 with a sailpro 6hp with an extra long shaft and went from 100lb to 55lbs. It make our boat sail way better

Hello Charlie! Hey I like that Tohatsu!! How does it push the Flicka, in your experience?! I too am seriously thinking of replacing my Honda 9.9 as you are right, it is sooo heavy! and seriously I feel like the 98 lb weakling that I am when I can barely tilt it and have to stand on the lever/hinge item to get it down into the water, hilariously silly!!

@@shiimtisailingwindmoonstar7442the only difference between the 9.9 and the 6 extra long shaft 25" is that the 9.9 had instant power with the six it takes a few seconds to get up and go. From a dead stop that's it!! But as far as keeping up with currents. Plowing against the wind and awake. It does extraordinary. It idles all day for trolling and sounds cool 3 gallons last forever. The pull start is easy. And you can pull it up and trim it back easy. You'll also find the tiller requires way less effort to steer the boat because of better balance,,. I love the little motor and it's a perfect match for the flicka. The only other upgrade I would put recommend is to add a second head sail. The staysail will allow you to point way better and the boat is more enjoyable in higher winds. The staysail goes from the top of the mast to the last nut on the bowspirt nearest the cabin top. No running backstays and it's amazing. Lot of options

I think the Flickas are just wonderful pocket cruisers, certainly looking to me to be a great single sailor boat. Congratulations !

Yes, they are the best little ocean-going pocket cruiser for sure! You can find a slip anywhere and can usually warp her around if you have to move or adjust your location on a large dock to make room for the big boats! :-)

Still learning the various systems and the steep learning curve. (Maybe bit off more than can chew - first boat). There is Nothing "Cute" about this design. Please, give them the respect, they deserve. These were died in the wool small code and haddock New England fishing boats. Bruce Bingham, realized the sea worthiness and history and ran with it. They are a stout and worthy addition to sea fairing tradition. Give them the respect, they deserve.

Don't mean to be adroit, but this design is serious. You've purchased the Ultimate Pocket Cruiser. On a lighter note, I prey you have a fabulous time restoring her. And the "Bonding", yes bonding, that will occur between you and she, will be memorable, and everlasting.

Just ran across your channel. Mine is a 1978 named Arielle. I had the same problem with the list to the port and solved it with 8 gals of water bottles in the starboard side compartments behind the couch. ( I dont have a enclosed head) . Figured I may need the water if I get lost at sea oneday and end up in China. Your battery idea should too. I also took off the plywood over the tank and used the starboard to replace it. Just be very careful you drill the holes big enough as not to crack the corners when you install. Its just plastic.

And yes, my boat is finally sitting even! Yay!! as yes, my water tank is only about 1/2 full so when full, and if need be, put a few tools on the stbd side!

You may try painting the carpet. They make spray paint or stain for carpet. Painted the seats of my Willys station wagon and it can out great.

Hello Janio! I translated your question and you asked how many batteries: I have 2 new AGMs in my old “holding tank area, “not gross anymore haha “…and a new battery charger and I did a short video on it too - I should know soon how much power my Wallas stove will take - starting up as a heater!!

@@vnilla2921 Hello! yes, we are a little far away and selling things across the border never works, lol! the stove is a WALLAS, uses minute amounts of diesel, model 800D & i got a blower lid that takes the stove's warm, dry heat and blows it into the cabin! Yeah!

Hello! You may have seen when I had taken it out, then you can watch as I install an Airhead composting head! So i now have a head that uses no water and no smell & i love it!
