Ancient Sumerian for "House Where the Wind of Life is Breathed In"...a second or third chance to live life with the wind at your back and in your sails! Historically, sailing has been man's mode of transportation, and some of us start it early in life, some start it late...here are the lessons learned by someone starting late in life...with a very fearful family in the wings, convinced I will drown either at the dock or "on the water"...

Please join me while I do many of these things for the first time! Errands on the boat, learning to reef, practicing steering a full keel in reverse with an outboard, removing a head, and more....And see what it has been like when I have learned that "Attitude determines whether it is an ordeal or an Adventure"...as all the French rockstar sailors say: "c'est la vie"!

There is Nothing "Cute" about this design. Please, give them the respect, they deserve. These were died in the wool small code and haddock New England fishing boats. I have never seen any sensible sailing vessel with a smooth cook top, or without fiddle rails to hold pots. There once was a very good kerosene 2 burner stove called the Princess. Which of course will also burn diesel. Safe, simple, right size and form factor, and an actual marine stove. Uses the once common Primus type burners. Assuming you dont want propane. Even at home, we do 99% of our cooking on a single burner.
@shiimtisailingwindmoonstar7442
@shiimtisailingwindmoonstar7442 2 года назад
Hello Capt Larry! Yes, this has fiddle that fit in the trim areas of the top, they fit in and then hold what will be one pot! ;-) Agree on only needing one burner: the additional reason too is the blower lid, turns it into a nice dry-heat heater, with an exhaust both for the stove heat and the heater when on....vs. having to try to fit another item into our compact ships!

@captlarry-3525 2 года назад
The design of those ports really sucks.
@shiimtisailingwindmoonstar7442
@shiimtisailingwindmoonstar7442 2 года назад
Yes, they do indeed suck! They look great, are nice when open, but trying to close them, and the way they close harkens to the day of tall ships...so it is like a connection back in time...yesiree, time spent ensuring they are tightly closed with eventual shaving of new gaskets...!!
@captlarry-3525
@captlarry-3525 2 года назад
not a good design. better when the standing part has a lip that fits into a grove, and that has a gasket. But, if the ports are properly bedded to the cabin, then new gaskets or fat O-Rings in compression should cure the problem . HINT: ( if you cannot find proper gasket) Use a big O-ring.. you can take it to a place that sells Hydraulic parts, and match it up. Hint.. You can gut an O-ring with a razor blade ( dead square cut) and then End Glue it back together with Super Glue. This is very reliable when done with square cuts and fresh superglue. >> Oh is see it is a flat gasket. Good you could find one. << Use no Adhesives ! It is Supposed to be proud, because it is the Compression that forces the soft rubber to squish and seal all the gaps. Just do not Over-tighten ! Does not require superhuman strength !
@shiimtisailingwindmoonstar7442
@shiimtisailingwindmoonstar7442 2 года назад
Hello! I agree there should be some sort of seat for the edge of port when the "lid" closes and tightens on, but you are trying the make a tight seal with a flat, hard piece of vulcanized rubber the consistency of a hockey puck...or one that is soft and has shrunk...so I do think I will try another material as well as the vulcanized rubber is just not going to cut it for the long term!

Hello Charlie! Hey I like that Tohatsu!! How does it push the Flicka, in your experience?! I too am seriously thinking of replacing my Honda 9.9 as you are right, it is sooo heavy! and seriously I feel like the 98 lb weakling that I am when I can barely tilt it and have to stand on the lever/hinge item to get it down into the water, hilariously silly!!
@BookCharlieLewis
@BookCharlieLewis 2 года назад
@@shiimtisailingwindmoonstar7442the only difference between the 9.9 and the 6 extra long shaft 25" is that the 9.9 had instant power with the six it takes a few seconds to get up and go. From a dead stop that's it!! But as far as keeping up with currents. Plowing against the wind and awake. It does extraordinary. It idles all day for trolling and sounds cool 3 gallons last forever. The pull start is easy. And you can pull it up and trim it back easy. You'll also find the tiller requires way less effort to steer the boat because of better balance,,. I love the little motor and it's a perfect match for the flicka. The only other upgrade I would put recommend is to add a second head sail. The staysail will allow you to point way better and the boat is more enjoyable in higher winds. The staysail goes from the top of the mast to the last nut on the bowspirt nearest the cabin top. No running backstays and it's amazing. Lot of options

My Nan who lived behind Canfield aerodrome had a house that was old, very old. Next to the house there was a barn with an array of outside toilets built in each with a flat wooden seat and a bucket underneath. As a kid I used to dread having to use it as I always thought I would fall in. It was so spooky sitting there listening to all the barn noises whilst only having a torch to see by and In winter the seat used to freeze my arse off. Once a week the slops man would come and empty all the buckets and invariably he would spill the overflowing contents all over the place meaning you had to wear wellington boots. I wore my nans boots which were above my knees making it near impossible to sit down properly. It was hell so a nice unseen holding tank for me please with an electric flush.. ☺️
