Epsom Salt Ornament Tutorial - Epsom salts can turn powdery over time - see description.

UPDATE: A viewer (and I) found that over time, the Epsom salts turned powdery and just lost all their appeal. I've found that their is moisture in Epsom salts and it dissipates with time, losing their crystal form.
Another viewer recommended a sealer, and I'm going to try that... but it may be some time before I know how well that works.
Quick and easy ornament tutorial. I recommend a thicker layer of your adhesive to make your coating more opaque, and to reduce shedding.

My aunt dipped the bottoms half of clear glass candle vases from the dollar store. Grouped together they were just beautiful! The candle light flickering through the salt was magical. Looked like ice!

If u weren't going for a see thru glass looking bulb, I have another option. Pour white acrylic paint, or whatever color u want, inside the bulb. Swirl it around until its coated, drain off excess n dry. That way, ur bulb won't b clear, but will look more like snow. A wooden dowel stuck in floral foam makes a good drying stand. Just an idea

Love this idea....hear me out...use old ornaments that are fading or colored ornaments that you do not care for and use this technique...or add dye to the epsom salt...hugs and happy creating🎉🎉🎉

Just a tip for you put some mod podge in a small cup or bowl then pour in some Epsom salt stir it up the put some color in it ( cake coloring or water paint) then cover the bulb with the mixture then add some uncolored Epsom salt and let dry. It's beautiful.

I just tried this last night but I did it on the inside of a Dollar Tree small fishbowl, I had a problem with the Epsom salt falling off in clumps I had to start over 2 times I watched so many tutorials on it and it seemed like it was going to be so easy but it wasn’t I finally used regular table salt and glitter mixed in and that turned out pretty good I also learned That spraying hairspray after it dries sets it pretty good! I felt like I had salt and glue from my head to my toes! Live and learn! And thank you so much for not being afraid of not looking perfect, makes me feel brave enough to try and try again! @@rosettamccoy6123 Rosetta Mccoy perhaps try one with larger crystals? Many stores sell their own store brands. Also, use a few LIGHT layers of the sealer instead of one heavy one. I found that drying them in a 100 degree oven for a few minutes helped to bring back some of the "melted" ones.

Live your video. Thanks. I had to share my love of freezer paper. I use it for everything but freezing - paint templates, just tried a folded Texas star with it to get size before using my one large board, and always underneath my crafts. Recently my grown daughters came over to make home made cheese-spinach-basil ravioli with me. I covered a large portion of my bar and countertops with it using clear moving tape. Then I could see any filling that escaped etc. my counters are earth toned granite and I also didn’t want to have to clean flour + water = glue off of them later. Lol. When my 29 year old was 3, I fed the freezer paper over the top of our rectangle coffee table (short side to short side) and she colored, painted, we used stamps, etc all on the paper side, and I was moving it off the table as we went so we had 20+ feet of this ‘art’. Then I used that to wrap our presents that Christmas. The plastic backing makes it perfect for paintings.

A word of warning!!! I used this method to cover a mason jar and when it dried I decorated it and place it on my window ledge, above my radiator, the salt actually melted from the heat of the radiator and went quite flat and turned white. So just a word of warning, that heat actually melts the salts. Great tutorial, thank you. Jane

the best way to color Epsom salts is to put an amount in a zip lock bag, us Wilton paste food color you can make it as light or dark as you like.. a little goes a long way. use a tooth pick to dip in to the color and place it on a small portion of the salts, close the bag and work it into the salts until you get the color you desire. Use a new tooth pick each dip into the color or have separate colors for crafts and cooking

I never thought to use epsom salt but great idea...it really does look like ice. I bet if you coat the inside with a color, maybe typical holiday colors like red, green, blue, the color would reflect through the salt. Another idea is once it's dry, coat the outside lightly with more mod podge to seal it so that you can handle it wiout creating bare spots. Merry Christmas!
