The first of a short series of in-cab video's featuring Derbyshire haulier Peter Brownlee's ERF E14.
Filmed during January 1989, running bulk tippers on the 'coal job' from pit to power station and places in between that specialised in blending coal with other low grade fuel ideal for power generation.
The good working relationship between the driver's is clear to see with the truck to truck banter over the CB radio.
The captions are from the originators film, and are left in place.

Fun times. Miss those days...loads of ERFs on the road back then. Aside from a few still trying, trucks are pretty boring now....not a jake brake to be heard anywhere and barely any manuals left. Thanks for sharing

Hi !!! .... I used to catch up with a buddy who drove an ERF E14 round the UK in the mid 90's !!! .... I used to start work at 9.30 am and work till 2.30am the next day and my relaxation was just "crashing out" in the same make and model for a few days at the beginning of the month ??? .... On the run-up to Christmas i used to buy loads of posh food and Champaine !!! .... The lorry was great !!!! The company was great !!!! And the laughter was the same !!! .... THANKS FOR READING !!!

That brings back memorys of riding with mum n dad in the late 80's early 90's when I was a small kid! Always looking and pointing out other ERF's... I was a sad kid, not much has changed, just my missus has to put up with it now! Great vid's by the way!

Thanks for uploading. Brings back great memories from my school holidays and every spare day I got going with my uncle who is sadly no longer with us in his E10 290 8 wheeler tipper. Things seemed so much better those days! You cant beat a Cummins.

The 14L big cam at 400bhp was a lot of power in those days. A worthy competitor to the V8 Scania motor, but couldn't touch it on fuel economy. Nice to see these old vids.

Walkers transport didn't just run Erf s but also had a parts store with full time store man ,and garage to do out side repairs for other Erf operators as well ,the last Erf s walkers ran were new 1998 EC11 8 wheelers ,I think they finished with lorrys around 2006 ish ?

Kegworth air disaster was the fault of Rolls Royce, Boeing and the pilots. The RR engines had a fault with the turbine disks, Boeing had altered the instrument dials in the cockpit for the engine temperature and the pilot shut down the good engine instead of the bad engine. By the time they realised what they had done it was too late and the planes speed had dropped so much that they where unable to restart the good engine.

Yes, so very very sad, and they almost made it onto the runway.

Ha, I don't think I did, this one wasn't my video, that how the tape arrived although there was a lot of work to get them something like watchable. Thanks for viewing.

SMayleification apologies, I thought you was the one filming. Out of interest, how did you come to get hold of these videos? Thanks for taking the time to post them, they bring back really happy memories for me.

I forgot to add if you didn't already know the song was 'Waiting for a star' 'by Boy meets Girl'. This video came to me forth hand via friends, it was originally filmed by Peter Brownlee's (who owned the lorry) brother whilst convalescing a damaged leg and having a new video camera. It had been transferred to disc but was poor in quality and unfortunately in the wrong format as well,. To cut a long story short it needed a lot of work to get it something like watchable, with the really poor bit's edited out, I felt this had so much rare content that it deserved to be shown to anyone with an interest in this sort of thing. Peter was happy with the result which I was pleased about as it is a big responsibility altering someone else's work.

Not sure about Walkers as Roy now lives abroad, but Peter Brownlee is still going, running a Volvo.

Usha Singh ERF are the initials of the founder of the company that built the trucks from 1933 to the late 1990's. Edwin Richard Foden. and the E, is for the E series model, and 14 is the capacity in litres of the Cummins engine.
