This is a record of my trip to Weifeng, China in 2011 to visit the grave monument of Eric Liddell, the Christian missionary-teacher who died in a Japanese camp in 1945. Eric was a great runner portrayed in the movie "Chariots of FIre" who won the 1924 Olympics 400 meter race. Weifeng is a beautiful city of about 8 million people. They recently memorialized Eric Liddell with a monument in the camp where he died. Eric was greatly respected inside and outside of China. Most of the subtitle material in the video is taken directly from the monument where it is found in English and Chinese.

A great champion and a hero for all time. Chariots of Fire will remain a lasting tribute as well. thanks for documenting this monument to China's recognition of the greatness of the man.

Sorry so late to respond - thank you. It is really a magical little monument area and was great fun to find. And his story always motivates me to do a little better than if I hadn't known it. Have a good life!

Thank you. A true hero - someone who put their lives on the line for others. Something I have never had to do and hope I never fail to do if the occasion arises.

Thank you for posting this. I remember reading that he had no interests in his fame, and that he just wished to follow God's will He always will be my hero

I also taught in Weifeng, but was unaware of Liddell's association at the time. Glad I know now. This story is a treasure.

@seiko1965 Yes, when I think of who a real hero is, I think of someone like Eric Liddell.

@gshoffma1 Thank you. I admire his convictions. That would be great to know someone who knew him. I love those kind of connections.

Thank you. A friend of mine just sent me a biography, "Eric Liddell Pure Gold" by David McCasland. It is a great read you might enjoy. Makes me want to go for a run.

It is great music and my rendition is cheesy but it makes me happy to have contributed to the soundtrack nonetheless.
