In this week's Cache Walk we come across a very moving sculpture on the banks of the River Liffey in Dublin, Ireland. Come with us to see these powerful images of the terrible potato famine of 19th Century Ireland.

Glad you found it interesting. We had not seenGuinness 0.0 either. As far as I can find out there is only one online company here is New Zealand where you can purchase it. It's not available in pubs here yet.

I've been to the statues in Toronto about the famine in Ireland. There's a geocache there as well. Though a number of my Mother's ancestors were from Ireland, they came before the famine. My grandfather still planted potatoes in his later years. Adding this one to my list for sure.

Definately a great one to visit. Interesting about your grandfather planting potatoes. I lived in Ireland for a few months many years ago and was surprise but the great variety of potatoes they grew there.

I like the Canadian connection ... Guiness is one beer that I can pass on instick with a lager or pilsner 😊

Yes we were suprised at the Canadian connection too. Guinness is definately an acquired taste. Great their 0.0 is a good drink as I sometimes need to drive home. Solves this problem for me. Now I just have to wait for it to get to the bars here in New Zealand.

Thanks for sharing this. A powerful memorial. We didn't know this had been unveiled in Toronto (side note, we always enjoy other accents saying Toronto, I (Annie) always enjoyed that during my time living in NZ - I dont think I even pronounce any of the letter t's LOL😂). Also really cool was the Guiness 0! Currently enjoying a 0% cider from a Canadian company called Sober Carpenter! Happy caching 😊

Thank you for sharing this. I've heard of the potato famine of course but didn't really know its history, I appreciate you sharing it and this sculpture and multi. There's a cache in nearby NYC that has a similar name and also remembers this famine: An Gorta Mór - The Irish Hunger Memorial (GC88YXA) which I have found.

We like old simple multis like this one, where you explore an interesting place and then the final location is in a nearby safe place. That Guinness didn't look very promising... 0.0 and with a machine serving it? oh, my! 😂😂

Yes we love offset multis like this too. The new version of Guinness 0.0 is much better than the one I tried. Looking forward to drinking the three I still have in the fridge at home 🙂

Ah yes Guinness 0 percent just like a lot of others now doing it. Certainly helps kerb the drink driving issues with the super low tolerance. Haha your face, yes now it’s from taps it’s bette. rWe learned about the famine in school growing up!

Great so many beers are now 0%. Thinking of having one original then if I feel like another and have to drive switching to 0%. Interesting you learnt about it in school. I can't remember where I first heard about it but probably back then too.
