It more sounds like a brief story or fiction than history in itself. The story of Majapahit migration to the Visayan islands is apparently based on the Maragtas epic written by Pedro Alcantara in mixed Hiligaynon and Kinaray-a in 1907 and it is in no way history but fiction. There is no close similarity between the Indonesian matial arts of Pentjak Silat from the Kali system. The fighting system is popular in the Visayan islands it is safe to assume that it is indigenous to it than imported.

The history of this Art is just as fascinating as the Art itself . The " ShrivaJayan " Empire was an ancient Indian / Hindu Culture/ Empire. No wonder one of the names for teacher there is " Guru !" Eventually the ancient Culture was driven out by the Islamic Campaigns , and all that remains of it is a few Hindu Temples , and of course , " Bali !" Thank you for sharing this .

@MrSolitude14 What you say is partly true. Our brothers in the South are NOT the only people who were not conquered by the Spaniards. We the IGOROTS in the Cordilleras (Northern Luzon) were never conquered too. That's why we do not have Spanish sounding names.

If you haven't already, you should read Mark Wiley's "Filipino Martial Culture". It's ethnography, history, and some really top notch interviews with Filipino masters, many of which have probably (unfortunately) passed away.

the background music is from the northern part of the country usually played in the mountain province in particular by the gaddangs of n.vizcaya and paracelis.

@sjander29 the art it self doesnt came from india, it is come out from animism pre-hinduism reagions that now days known as indonesia (yes, srivijaya located in indonesia). guru (or in another dialects known as `guro`) is hindus word for: religious teacher/ religious leader, but it got `malaynisation` in the advance by loosing its `religious` feature, and simply become `someone who teach you something` or guru/teacher

@banyohazard69 yup, thats why I said that FMA are actually in the same family of what i called SEAMMA (south east asia maritime martial arts) along with silat etc.
@MrSolitude14

@pinoyblues69 the stick art (read: escrima/arnis) was born through the blade disband rules of spaniard, so they replace the abscence of blades with sticks, in the mindanao we cant find it because the mindanao people are the only people that was failed to conquered by the spaniard and manage to keep their blades, now you know why they are the bravest people in the rep of the philippines.

@pinoyblues69 To tell you the truth... the Visayans and Mindanaoans indeed had connections with neighboring empires/kingdoms like that of Borneo and Brunei and also Sri Visjaya, according to one book... the King of Brunei was Visayan, this is because Visayans settled in Borneo and the people of Borneo settled in Visayas, there was a continues flow of people, so to speak. There are more evidence about our pre-Spanish history that are being discovered by archeologists for the past years or so.

Then how do you explain the Kris swords in the visayan and luzon region?
@MrSolitude14
@MrSolitude14 12 лет назад
write kali-silat / silat-kali here in youtube, there will be tons of materials that show you the similarity since they even sticks the name like that. and the migration were belongs to srivijayan, not majapahit residents.

Google: "Golden Tara" and watch the video documentary "Gold of Ancestors" here on youtube, these are artifacts that have been found by archeologists and also there are historical documents about this, by historians, that proves that the pre-Spanish people of the Philippines, our ancestors were actually no different with our neighbors in the region. We also had Datu's, Rajah's, Sultans as our leaders, we share a similar history and culture with our neighbors in the Malay world.

@pinoyblues69 There is actually a truth to this video, perhaps just a little inaccuracy, but this is true, pre-colonial Filipinos indeed share a history and culture with neighbors, with the rest of the Malay world (Indonesia, Philippines, Borneo, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapura, etc.). There are recent archeological findings, artifacts that will prove this, also old documentations from historians. Google: "Golden Tara" and watch the video documentary "Gold of ancestors" here on youtube.
