Written Version: dottzgaming.com/eso-guides/general/eso-character-build-checklist/ I know i didnt cover sets in this video, but this video wasnt intended to cover those, as those will vary greatly based on the build. My goal for this video was to be more of a checklist for you to go through to make sure that you have all the important pieces a build needs, whether you're building something yourself or following a build from your favorite creator.
Dottz!! Can you please let me know what motifs/or gear style you have on in the thumbnail for this video? Black low profile outfit with the black wolf helmet!!
Dottz! Thank you for all the awesome content you put out. I've watched this video like 5 times now I think and your complete beginner guide twice that, maybe more.. Is there any way you could provide a step by step process guide on how to make your own build? I've been told, "find a set you like and build around that" and "find your favorite skills for your class and build around those".. Or in particular, what you look for in a set for particular builds? (dps, tank, healer) Thanks again!
*Plays Skyrim for almost 10 years* You know what, it's time to change things up a bit and expand my gaming horizons. *Sees Greymoor expansion for ESO* That'll do nicely.
Thank you! I have been playing eso for about 3 months and I am only beginning to understand some of these finer points of character builds. This is helpful. Don't get down on people who don't understand these things at first. There is nowhere that these things are explained, and tho players are mostly willing to help you, they use terminology that you don't understand and so their explanations make no sense. Sometimes you have to start at the BEGINNING.
I would never get down on people who dont get things, especially as a new player. theres a reason i have a beginner guide on nearly every topic u could want to know about: to help people get started :)
Lol, I now realize why my DPS is low. I would leave pvp and go to pve with inpen...wtf was I thinking. It was cheaper to do yes, but that's why m DPS is lower. I was so dumb.
Finally bro, I was waiting for something like this. The reason why is because my build is theoretically GREAT, but it's just missing something. I am here to find that out.
Yeah man, the amount of times i've been told a build "isnt working for someone" but in reality theyre missing like at least half of the build is staggering lol. So, i figured something like this would be really nice to be able to refer people to when those kinds of questions come up :)
I've been playing since 2016 I've always followed other people's builds because I found it hard to really understand where to put the champion points and to understand what was best for your character so this video really helped me. I'm making my first character build on my own. I am making a frost Warden with Winters born icy conjuror and Ice heart. I have a better understanding now of placing CP Points and allotting the proper skills.
Having reached 50 on a first ever ESO toon about two hours ago, this video (as part of my "I'm lvl 50, what now?" search) is the best I've watched. There was so much I needed to know right here. Know how to build - rather than just being an astute judge of cookie cuts. It made all the sense in the world. Thank you Dottz.
Dottz, this is weird but I really dig how you support environmental and leftist groups for ads etc. from fireside chats, to doing ads for deforestation, I can tell you’re an educated comrade at heart, and in the ESO community we need more people like you!!!
Very informative video and exactly what I have been looking for for ages... Now being an advanced player I understand most of these topics and still it helped me out a lot! Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work!
@@dottzgaming Could you quickly advise the best way to get the right traits for my items? Do I need to grind a dungeon for example if I am not getting the right trait? For me, transmuting everything is not really a way to go...
Only got one contribution to this awesome video, in terms of Golding things out, at least as a tank, I find that Golding three infused large pieces can be super worth it to max out resource pools, but obviously, as a tank, you don't necessarily need to be doing a lot of damage
WoW coming from a person with ADHD I'll have to fall asleep playing this in my headphones for days to get all of this as noob thanks for all the info!!
Another solid video, man. Would be interested to see a follow up where you walk through your thought process when designing a new pvp or pve build. Assuming someone has all this as a foundation, what are you trying to check of your list when choosing sets to combine and adding skills to your bar? A guide for getting into theory crafting if you will
Maybe this will help you: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3jPbp90oJEQ.html it's a bit on the older side and i was actually considering making an updated version, so expect that soon :)
@@dottzgaming just listened through it. Was a good look behind the curtain at how you're approaching builds. Thanks for taking the time to reply and share that. Really good food for thought
Have you considering doing a stream? You help subs who contritube to your subs/patrean/etc and coach them on how to tweak build. I have learned a lot from your channel. This kind of video is my favorite! I can watch it and REwatch it and I understand more and more the more time I play the games and incorporate your tips.
Dude this is what i and everyone else, i assume, needed. I had an idea but this gave me the whole nine yards. Been wanting to make my own original build and (no offense) not base it off of anothers build. Thanks a ton for this extremely helpful vid.
Enjoyed the video Dottz, thanks man! The CP jump point bullshit really needs to be addressed by ZOS though, it's stupid that it rounds down essentially making half if not most of the points you're spending meaningless. I wish they would at least attempt to come up with a more straightforward way to use CP or just crunch CP and make each point actually meaningful to spend aside from just using most of them like a ladder to get to the next percent. Tons of more important issues of course, but I wouldn't mind hearing about them adjusting that system a bit.
Glad you enjoyed! And yeah it's insane that it isnt mentioned somewhere in game and if u didnt look it up, you'd have no idea how many points you could potentially be wasting
Really love your content. I enjoy build content but sadly this game lacks the Lore focused channels that the single player TES games have. But I definitely see you as one of the best out there 🌹🌹🌹
Ive played since the game was 1 month old and have never bought a single potion or buff food. Just craft your own. Very easy to level provisioning and alchemy
Personally I think eso is very beginner unfriendly. They should write which race is good for what and which class is good for what because due to passives I know you can do everything with all classes but it's still a fact that dk and necromancer are tankier than templar or nightblade. And that would help a lot new players that start playing especially those players that like pvp cuz you def feel a difference and classes play different
@@dottzgaming i know but it shouldn't be you teaching new players because I only found you when I was already CP level for example xD it should be eso giving a basic guide basically if ppl dont watch RU-vid videos about builds and stuff new players are lost.
Thanks! Great video! I think many of us have “partial” builds. I remember when I was cp250 trying to put a build together and I did not have enough skill points, or skill lines leveled to do much of what was necessary to really have “a build”. I’m CP6?? now and I still don’t have medicinal use..lol
I have been playing ESO off and on for two years now. When it comes to character build its frustrating. I have no idea how people can get characters with such specific armor sets. I have been playing dungeons and get sets , but not complete sets. I tried to saving them, but i just do not have enough space to try and collect a matching set. I have heard that you can buy them but have no idea where to buy. People say you can make them , but my character cant make such things right now. I assume these expert players that are able to do such things must spend 40 hours a week on the game playing . As a dad its hard to spend all day on this game . lol lol
I feel you!! I want to get into this game because it looks so much fun. I tried to do all the dungeons as well. I decided to just keep it simple and do the main quest line. It’s easy to get sidetracked but I go back to the main quest.
story of my life :) but i can tell you that it is getting better with time, for me i think there are few things that people miss when starting to play (including my self). 1 - dont worry about any thing, the goal is to have fun. 2 - dont get tied up in one specific thing like questing for example it will ruin the game for you, do a little of every thing and focus on what you enjoy the most. 3 - join a guild party with other people do dungeons together and later more challenging things like arean`s and etc.. 4 - crafting is not that complicated in general but takes time, the easiest thing is to find someone to craft some basic gear for you (i`d be happy to if you want) than you can slowly get into crafting. 5th and most important dont give up, i gave up so many times but thank god i always gave it another chance, this game is amazing, its just very complicated but thats probably what makes it such a great game that you can spend years and years on unlike diablo3 for example where after few months at best you lose interest.
@@jekae61 Thank you for your reply! I think that is solid advise, I did get caught up on questing and grinding up XP. Just going around and doing those treasure maps I had in my bag were fun to do the other day. Need to try the new system that just came out to find unique treasure / excavating . Let me know how to reach out to you . would be great to get help with gear. Im just wearing a mix of different things that i have picked up. lol lol Thanks !
Dottz, you are an absolute legend! You clarified SO MANY doubts I've had about builds. Thank you so very much! Question: as a completely new player leveling up his first character to cp160 with the intention of going PvP in the future, would it be advisable to focus on PvE skills more first and then respec to PvP, or start levelling up PvP skills from the get go?
@@dottzgaming one more question. What's that thing you mentioned about cp300? I know that you continue to get CPs to put into constellations until 810, but what exactly happens at 300?
great guide! A Question: how about pvp-builds for non-CP-areas? anything special to consider for them in a build? What's your opinion about using poisons?
Great video! This helped to focus on what has been fairly overwhelming. I am trying to build my CP300 Magplar for PVP DPS and back up heals. I am running with light of cyrodiil and magnus sets right now with no monster set. My chest and pants are heavy Wyrd tree pieces. I am looking to upgrade to Julianos which I can craft and having someone else craft the New moon acolyte for me. I will leave the head and shoulders open for an eventual monster set but will initially pick stuff up with AP from the golden vendor in Cyrodiil. What are your thoughts on this set combo? Should I go light for the armor or heavy to be less squishy in pvp? Which set would be better for the armor pieces?
Is there anything wrong with using daily awards food? I’m guessing it’s better than nothing, but is the benefits of using other food (your recommendation) much more significant? Thanks for the vid btw! Love these. Been trying to get into BG & avoid getting wrecked, and trials/arenas (eventually) as my rotation is in order. I think I’m changing it too often, which gets in the way of learning/improving
Certain builds will want to use certain buff foods due to needing certain things, whether it be more max stat or sustain.. you'll want to refer to the Individual builds. In terms of the Crown meal tri stat vs golden tri stat (bewitched sugar skull), bewitched gives you a little more TRI stat + HP recovery. So, if you wanna min Max you use gold tri stat. But, you can use the crown food if you wanna save some money. Hope that explains it!
Hey just checking since I'm on a strict wood elf diet. The only thing here I can eat is probably the witchmothers brew but I gotta make sure first that this contains NO plant or plant based content? Thanks!
Do you have a guide on how to react in certain situations during pvp? I am talking about skills and VISUAL effects associated with them. Many new players (including myself) play only one class, which means that we don't know what to do when someone for example puts a bubble around his character. Do I attack or wait it out? What about this big skeletor form? Should I engage or leave him alone? What does this shock golem? Often times, mages hit me for 6-10k without casting any ability - do they place some kind of trap or use an ability with delayed effect? Can I avoid Purifying Light explosion by going into mist form? Is there any point in wasting my resources on an enemy who is standing on a Rune? Are there abilities which prevent cc from working and is it visible while active? Can enemy reflect all incoming dmg? I feel like I am making a lot of mistakes, most of them are due to the fact, that I don't know about other classes and what they actually do to me.
As a nightblade while using dual wield is it better to get mayor brutality from potion or from Flying Blade skill (5th skill, morph from Hidden blade). I found it better to get it from the skill, because I can use it instead of ambush to jump on enemy. I know that there are a lot of variations and ways to make a build working, but I would love to hear your opinion.
Hey Dottz I got into eso and your videos were super helpful! But I fell off because it just seemed like the playstyle I wanted to use didn’t work. I feel super weak everywhere I go. In PVE and PVP. I’m a solo player and I really wanted to make a sword Magica dps character work I ran a dragon knight dual wielding sword and staff character. I also tried it with a great sword character too. So I have two questions I don’t really know what class I should be in tank or dps with this playstyle? I really like doing damage and being on the front line which seems to be split between tank and dps?? I have almost no experience in games with those roles so I’m a little confused at which one I would like more. The second question is this combo even viable or do I have to give it up and if I’m gonna use a sword I should stick to stamina dps??
The type of armor I should go for also confused me and would be helpful if you could advise me there too. it worked better when I went with heavy armor but when I did that I wasn’t really tanky or doing damage.
Which active skills should I slot? Considering I have all my buffs as you told, how many dots? which spammable? aoe AND single target or focus on one? When to slot things like bound armaments? What I am asking is: How do I choose and combine these abilities the best way? Maybe you can help with that. I feel like I am just starting to figure it out myself, but I cannot really explain.
Hey Dottz. I really like tanking, but ESO seems very inflexible in that my tank "must" use a staff and S & B . Is there a viable way to make a tank that can also do dps via stam (preferably 2H) when i'm out questing ? I would like to be able to do as much of the PVE content as possible but without having to change CP or builds and stats every time. And the standard magic dps/ S&B tank just isn't enough when doing quests. I know a tank wont do as much dps as a dps build, but i would prefer to have just a little boost and do so with a 2H weapon. Maybe i'm just wishful thinking as an old WOW player that was able to clear content as a tank without too much issue and still switch to my 2H when tanking wasn't necessary without drastically changing my build for solo content.
Keep hearing from several sources that you should not mix magicka and stamina attributes in most builds (you said except for tank). Why is that? Do you just ignore your residual magicka pool on stamina builds and have all stamina skills? or is it possible to include one or two magicka skills? What health should you have to avoid being one shotted? Really lots of questions on attribute distribution... could be the subject of a whole video :).
@@dottzgaming Thankyou - I found lots of useful stuff very well explained, which I am looking at, especially your stamina healing guide. So one final (!?) question: Given that damage and healing abilities scale to max stam, does that apply to other abilities such as say Ice Fortress and Bird of Prey which are magicka skills that don't do damage or healing? If not presumably I can put one of those on the bar to use up the free magicka?
Hi Dotz , thanks for the videos . I just came across your channel . My question is ? In your opinion what is the best Pve Nightblade Dps medium 5 piece armor set ? Thanks
Downloading the game, never played before. That will come in handy! Speaking of race/class, I'm tempted to go with a healer Khajiit, maybe warden. I know Argonian works better, but it's more of a personal preference.
Yes! If you reach the end I cover that right before my outro. Gear weights go chest, shoulders/legs/boots/head, gloves then belt. So optimally, the chest would be your heavy piece to maximize armor value gained
I've really wanted a way to make Calurions Legacy work in PVP. Is there any hope, or should I just move on? I've been using Mad Tinkerers for a while as a magplar because the little rolly dude just wrecks mobs with the knockup in either PVP or PVE, if I had Calurions on the backbar would those 5 piece bonuses stack decently?
What armor style is that? It looks sick. I'm just starting to get back into ESO, I stopped playing like 2 years ago and imbasically learning the game from scratch again.
question: So if i understand correctly, to really min max my gear set i would go for a heavy chest middle helmet and a light shoulder for a mage setup if it is possible gear set wise
To min max armor weights for magicka, your chest would be heavy, your shoulder or head or legs or boots would be medium, and then everything else is light. If you though are using a set that has to be worn as light on the body, you'd make your head and shoulders heavy and medium. It wouldnt matter which is which though since head/shoulders give the same value per armor weight. hope that helps!
Can I still benefit from weapon skill line passives for weapons I don’t have equipped? For example, can I use Bow passives but have 2 handed and Sword n Shield equipped?
Im sorry if thats too much of an off topic question but what do you think will be the next meta monster set for pvp when the bloodspawn nefs might go through? Im sorry if you talked about this in another video
So you can do med and light helm / shoulder if your body set only comes in heavy, but if it comes in multiple weights or is crafted, the optimal setup would be light belt and med gloves.
Great video! When you mention the gold weapons does the damage get added to your stat sheet e.g if I was to have 2.4k spell damage, if I was to gold out my weapon would that go to 2.8k spell damage that I can see on my stat sheet or does it get added like a passive? Hope this made sense lol
Is it ok to have solo light armor on a sorcerer? I've been following one of your guides and I have level 50 in clothing but 10 in blacksmithing so I'm wondering if light armor is viable on a magicka dps?
I just have one question.....if i use gold enchant on epic gear, will it gives me total value of gold enchant or just gives me value of purple enchant untill i upgrade my gear to be gold...?.... again thank you for this videos...helping me(beginner) alot.
Stupid question but i have yet to see it asked or answered...what is the personality you're using in all your vids? It's the same here as it has been and i cant figure out if its crown store bought or if its in game earnable....
I get what you explain about having 5 piece of armor from the same weight and 1 and 1 of the other 2 to max the undaunted passive. But does that make it harder to complete 2 full sets of 5 pieces and get bonus from that ?
Stanco nope! Your monster sets are only your shoulders and helmets so if you take into account you jewelry and weapons as well you still have plenty of room for your 2 other sets
Your armor type will have no bearing on whether or not you can complete the set :] this 5 1 1 concept is going to mostly apply to your monster sets (head shoulders) bc they come in all armor types, as where your 2 5-piece sets will always be 1 type.
is spell strategist a good set for pvp? Also why are you running heavy armor when u are acharacter that seems to focus on stamina and dmg?I am kinda new to this game i just got cp 160
He might be showing a PvP build. A lot of PvP builds will utilize heavy armor more then light or heavy armor in order to gain extra survivability in PvP areas.
