Some of the higher end Thin clients come with higher wattage power bricks. As quite a few can have a PCIe card installed. So you may be able to pick up a client for cheaper or a similar price to just the high end PSUs.

On the subject of thermal paste - until about three years ago I always bought expensive thermal paste, mostly from the company Arctic. Until I was advised to use copper paste. This costs about 4 euros (50 grams) here in Germany. I then compared this with the Arctic paste, the CPU temperature was almost the same in the benchmarks, there were practically no differences. I then used this copper paste on all my computers and also on my graphics cards, it worked excellently. About two weeks ago I wanted to replace the copper paste on one computer, and what can I say - the paste was still as smooth as it had been at the beginning. That has now completely convinced me. Copper paste is wonderful to apply, is not electrically conductive and stays smooth even for years. You also don't need to worry about the copper paste drying out in the tube, whereas I have often had to throw away half a tube of Arctic thermal paste because it had hardened. So I can only warmly recommend copper paste to you, try it out.

Do you have some brands you can recommend?

@@handmedowntech I am currently using copper pastes from the brands "Nigrin" and "Techmol". But I don't think there are any major differences.

“…throw out Artic because it hardened..” Wow, I’ve got fifteen-year-old Artic tubes… paste is still soft putty. But the copper-based sound interesting….

@@ernestgalvan9037 Well, I can't confirm that, maybe it's a different recipe for your 15 year old Arctic thermal paste, that could be it. But whatever, just try copper paste, I'm convinced that you won't use anything else. Above all, it's much cheaper 🙂

Thank you for this video. I purchased the Sabrent SATA external hard drive enclosure, which will come in handy. I also like your UPS idea and will act on that.

I recently bought one of those usb hard drive docks for cloning drives and reading them on PC. Just in case I need to use and read from drives bigger than 2.5 inches. Most people with the right budget would probably grab a NAS. But right now that's out of scope. I also have some cable less usb c hubs on the way so that I can set them up and be able to pull and swap them without cables being all over. Since one of them I just have perpetually streaming games, and the other I'm using for editing and the like. I have another, but most of my tasks rely on gpu tasks so the extra intel elitedesk I have isn't doing anything right now. Another cool thing if you do decide to use it for 24/7 streaming is a dummy display dongle... I found out the hard way that windows doesn't render an image if you turn the monitor off. If there is a fake monitor plugged in, it'll keep rendering, and you won't have to have a monitor on all day until this thing gets here... lol.

I have tried the cloning units but they always looked handy to have. No need for a PC. Do you still need the headless dongle if you RDP into the unit?
@Xedhadeaus
@Xedhadeaus 2 месяца назад
@@handmedowntech I'm not sure. If you have a device that can keep the machine awake I'd imagine you wouldn't need that, but for streaming a screen, if that screen isn't active, it just crashes the stream. Looking around it says there can be issues if doing it without a display, but the first bit is my actual experience while the latter is what I'm seeing online. I'll try it when I change things around, but if you can stomach scrolling through aliexpress for a bit, you can score a few of them (hdmi, pure display port ones cost a bit more) for less than a dollar each if you buy more than one (HDMI) and about 1.70 for the display port one. Just make sure you log in first, as they tend to bait you with fake prices until you do so. I have another PC that I'll most likely use for streaming shows and old dvds I have, so a headless display lets me leave that on too in case I don't feel like watching but still want other people to have something to look at.

I've been enjoying the videos that you have been posting about the HP mini's and the various generations. I thought I would share a few items that I have relied on in the past when working on PCs, laptops and such. First off, the red plastic tool you spoke about is called a spudger, they are very useful for a multitude of tasks. I recommend everyone have a screwdriver magnetizer/demagnetizer tool, useful for installing screws as well as for reaching into tight spots to retrieve dropped screws. I like to have a magnifying device handy sometimes when trying to read small text in tight spots, usually a cellphone is excellent for this but there are times when its too large to get into tight spots. I've not used the makeup cleaning wipes inside PCs, I have always used 2" gun cleaning patches, they are designed to be used with solvents and other liquids so they hold up to alcohol really well. I also like to use long cleaning swabs inside some PCs, like a q-tip but about 5-6 inches in length. I also like to wear disposable gloves when cleaning inside a PC, and I like to have a small, bright flashlight or sometimes a headlamp handy when poking around in dark spaces. Cheers

@handmedowntech 3 месяца назад
I had forgotten about the headlamp and magnifying device. I use my phone extensively to read those pesky model numbers on RAM and small components. I traded the headlamp for a ring lamp but that's because I don't do as many desktops anymore. Thanks for the good suggestions.

2” gun cleaning patches are super-useful , but they cost $. Same with cotton gloves. Unwanted all-cotton t-shirts are a FREE!! alternative to store-bought patches. Unwanted all-cotton socks are a FREE!! alternative to store-bought gloves. (Also a good source for sock-puppets 🤭)

If that Sabrent M.2 enclosure is the same one that I own, then it also supports SATA drives in that form factor (not just NVME).

YT thought police censored my comment yesterday :-( Basically I suggested that you should stick to 90+% iso-propanol, not rubbing alcohol - you may get away with it but RA has no standard, is anything up to 40% water and can contain methanol and ethanol which can affect plastics and start corrosion. I also suggested using "fine, blunt metal tube" tipped polythene dispenser bottles off Amazon (which may have been the problem yesterday as I used the obvious and correct name ...) - the 30ml size is good - the solvent doesn't evaporate so much, is very easy to accurately apply rather than slop everywhere and doesn't flood the desk when you knock it over :-) Also, cotton swabs with bamboo handles are great for more delicate clean-ups like connectors and would work well alongside your make-up pad idea for larger jobs.

Most likely YT didn't permit links. I'll look for some higher level IPA (mine is 70%). I found something with a metal tip - is this what you're were referring to? www.amazon.com/1oz-2oz-4oz-10ML-1-5/dp/B074W9PV1Z/ref=sr_1_17_sspa?crid=3SR19GUJYVU7L&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Xn6lzhS1d6CZ3Jy8sB9KVvxcFpCOAxTFT9BTkj1duhPRnKc3GEvO6LWhXjeTo75SWQ6EA0j6_ioHF3cy8ciX1a_LsgEZkwyOW6cckDs02iUxpe_aRIgmZawaTX3kahuEmAfl-HRVsOFAhmjpOlZn-mBYVJKi8dYjGZJGqm8vzaYclBIp84AzmnfMfxObRiK9PJhf7PHl8uqMraen-_5G4_8LXG1jKiwUUMbVhKdhek8.Wlr76vHdZfrreTWWpItVs7ufw_AEWe5NkdXaWetdyyY&dib_tag=se&keywords=isopropyl+alcohol+dispenser+metal+tip&qid=1711839807&sprefix=isopropyl+alcohol+dispenser+metal+tip%2Caps%2C149&sr=8-17-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGY&psc=1 If not you can simply put in the ASIN - that way folks couple find it

Two-month-old post.. Rubbing Alcohol DOES have standards. Just look at the ingredients list. Also the percentage and type of alcohol must be stated. But biggest problem with RA is that it may include oils, lanolins, scents or soaps… read carefully , you don’t want that stuff . High-quality IPA is usually cheap at pharmacy, just look at the larger sizes 16oz or larger. Transfer small amounts to your favorite dispenser, and keep the big bottle tightly sealed and in a dark closet. Back of the fridge is also a good choice.

@@handmedowntech I've had the Microsoft All-in-One media keyboard for about 10 years. The only issue is I have is on that I usually have to press the FN key so that the F keys will register during boot, but it's a minor issue. I like it because it's always detected at boot, which didn't always work with my previous wireless keyboard. Track pad could be better, though.

They come in handy when trouble shutting/ setting up pcs. Ps. you've cost me a lot of money. 🙂 I've bought a whole bunch of HP 800 Gxs. I use them on projects. Better, more powerful than a Raspberry Pi. I enjoy your videos, Keep up the great work !!!
