*Hey everyone!* I originally wanted to make this guide a bit fancier (more edits, text on screen, graphics to visualize better, etc...) but I decided to keep it super simple so I could finish it earlier as it was being heavily requested. If there's anything I missed, make sure to let me know and I make a follow-up video.
I'd argue that I often outplay killers with thousands of hours, because although they know what a survivor is gonna do before the survivor knows what they themselves are gonna do, I have an iq of 3 and I dont even know what im gonna do, thus creating an infinite loop of unpredictability.
Lolol as a survivor main turned killer, I love using my knowledge of survivor tactics to plan my attack. Also, I despise tunneling and camping killers because it's so much more effective to pressure the generators and force people to heal.
Sometimes being simple is best played against a high rank doctor like 5 or 4 . He kept outplaying himself thinking I was going to do something grand or mindgame like. Also the blight is bad, half the time I was wtf like what is this killer even doing I watched him fly off a hill didn't even bother to stop opening my chest.
@Mark most people from I’d say rank 20-15 are a pretty brain dead group but when you get into green rank+ you rarely find brain dead people but there are obviously some select few with the IQ of a spoon
I had a game today where I did 5 gens by myself watching a David crouch by a wall, while Meg and Dwight ran in circles around a rank 17 killer bullying him with flashlights and teabags. Fun.
Yep, I play survivor mainly but Ive started playing killer every know and then and I realized that some survivor mains out there are the biggest babies out there lol. Ive had so many dc's
Oof this is so relatable, I’m at 35 hours mainly playing Spirit and it’s tough not to get frustrated getting matched with rank 1-10 players when I’m at 16 and they get toxic in the post-game chat. The struggle is real!
user we’ve had a slow down freddy with surveillance, ruin, pop and thanataphobia on lerry’s. A really efficient swf who maximize their callouts, will make anything possible.
@Kalldr Well, depends on the addons and perks. If the person taking Slowdown Freddy is on equal footing with an SWF, then the matchtime goes from 8 minutes average to nearly 15 minutes average. I'd say nearly doubling matchtime isnt something you can outpace. But yeah, if the SWF is overall better than Freddy, then Slowdown Freddy barely will have any effect.
@@zalifor "swf are usually more confident" as mentioned by op, just giving an example how swf are confident because they have a higher chance of escaping. Would you like to add anything else?
@Kalldr In my personal experience, it's very much a thing. Not all swfs are successful against Fredy's particular build as they're too busy self caring in a corner while asleep.
@@Zeus-sv6wi I've been red ranks for years. God i wish people had better excuses than "WeLl In ReD rAnKs!!!!!" Is the game perfect? Nope. Not even close. Do you get your ass kicked sometimes as killer? Yup. But stop pretending thats the norm, because its not.
@@SkySoFew my point is this game is heavily survivor sided, this isn't a debate I'm telling you as killer this game is heavily stacked against you, especially at red ranks because the likely hood of going against a strong coordinated team increases, I've mained killer religiously daily for nearly 4 years and mastered every killer to its full potential and I'm still saying this game is survivor sided
An important thing to note is that Survivors aren't predictable because survivor players are somehow all dumb. That makes no sense. They're predictable because survivors don't have much of a choice in the matter. It's their job to stay on gens and be on gens ASAP. It's their job to try to waste the killer's time, but that's very contingent on the randomized map elements and if there is a pallet remaining in the area, and their perks. They spend less time seeing the whole map than you will. Each *individual* survivor is at a massive disadvantage 1v1, and sometimes will have no options at all if they are seen, depending on their position. And especially in solos, a survivor isn't going to be concerned about whether their team wins - they're concerned about whether they are earning BP (far less than a Killer, typically) and having fun. So, as a killer, you can rely on survivors to do what they *must* do to try to maximize the time they spend making BP. If a survivor wanted to just hide until EGC next to a door or hope they can find the hatch, they could; but they would earn basically nothing for the time they wasted, and so they can't and won't. Basically: if you want to predict a survivor, play as one for a long time.
In 30 seconds, you described my entire experience playing killer for almost a year and a half now. - Never reached red ranks, check. - Always face red rank survs (due to matchmaking issues), check. - Constant uphill battle with inconsistent results, check. - Slow improvement despite constant practice and watching guides, check. - Frustrating experience to the point of taking regular breaks from the game, check. Thank you, for not only this guide, but for the entertainment you regularly provide. I found you about 3 months ago and was legitimately surprised at how calm and kind; yet simultaneously funny and sarcastic, you are. I'm glad I stumbled onto your channel and love the content. Keep up the good work, and again, thank you.
Maybe I'm lucky but I'm brand new about to hit rank 6 on killer while using trapper, hillbilly and ghostface only. Trapper d hillbilly are level 30 and my ghostface is 18. Ghostface perks look so ass though, hes so fun to use and creepy. However, I really struggle trying to expose people because they have that 360 view camera as survivor.
@Umbrella sick of seeing all these comments about how you have to have 1000 fucking hours in this game to be a beginner??? That's like 3 hours a day for a YEAR. People gatekeeping games like this just make people less likely to play this game. Trust me, it does not take that long at all to have basic knowledge if this game.
@@bruhbruh1339 Beyond the memes of 1000 hours, the game honestly takes a long time till you get gud unless you focus down one killer or only play survivor. There's a ton of grinding, map knowledge, killer match up, perk knowledge, counter play, mind games and on top of that it's still being updated, so all that means jack when you find a new killer on a new map to fight. Not even mentioning the fact that sometimes you just can't get practice with certain aspects. (I literally never see farm house map ever, I forgot the upstairs layout.) I have like 500 or so hours on the game after a year or so of having it, love it to bits but I am still a pretty mediocre survivor player. But yeah I love the 10000 hour comments when they get hit with the 100 hour nurse only main.
Otz: "What should be your reaction to survive with friends?" *shows a red mori w/text that says "not this"* Me: *Sweating nervously* I would NEVER do that....
Otz, I just wanted to say thanks for all the content man :) I'm now rank 2, and I'd honestly put a lot of that down to your educational content. Keep being awesome dude.
I wish i had legendary guides like this when i started playing. 2018 guides were like "press m1 to slap survivors" or "if you hook a survivor 3 times they die"
I think the worst thing is, the actual game itself offers very very little when it comes to tutorials and support for new players. The game has a massively steep learning curve to begin with, and added on to the fact that it lacks any decent guides or training for new players makes it probably very overwhelming and confusing if you’re new. Fortunately, I managed to pick up on the game quite quickly when I first started playing through practicing with my friend (who already had some experience in the game before I got it) and through watching countless hours of gameplay on RU-vid and Twitch. But I dread to imagine buying DBD with no prior knowledge of the game and stepping right into a game of killer for the first time knowing nothing and struggling. It must be horrific.
@@InsaneCoaster When i just started playing DBD, i had followed it via youtube long before i bought it cuz i couldn't afford it for the longest time, and when i finally got it i also read a bunch of guides on how to play. Thanks to this, i stomped pretty much every other new player i got matched against ( MM wasn't trash back then ), but i guess i got lucky cuz not every player is this dedicated to games and is perhaps a casual gamer...
Otz on stream: Nah i wont tunnel, let just have a fun match Otz when giving tips to win: Focus em, get the weak link, tunnel the bastards until they have no hope
I seem to accidentally tunnel quite a bit. Ill hit someone, let them leave, and theyll pop out in front of a different location and eat another swipe. Like, im not going to give up free hits lol.
@@zekedelsken9963 That happens to me SO much. Like "Alright, they got him off the hook. Not gonna tunnel, just gonna go over he...and there he is again..." *bonk*
I was playing the deathslinger, I saw a claud running to unhook their teammate, I followed her shot into the cluster of them, hit the unhooked, guy told me I was camping
But it's not even good advice... you hurt your score by hooking a fresh survivor at the end. You can get points for 12 different hooks, skipping 2 for "the win" will hurt your points. Besides Tricksters are depipping with 4K's because they don't understand the other three categories.
Ghostface player here, I’m only rank 14 but at frequently getting put up against red rank 1 survivors. And frequently it seems they’re SWFs as well. I play games to have fun, you know what’s not fun? Getting stomped over and over for 2000 hours like this guy is saying I need to be. Previously I was getting 3ks and the occasional 4k. Now every game I play I get totally destroyed. Sometimes I never even land a hit on them, all they do is loop me for 20 mins while all the gens get done. Then stand at the exit gate T bagging and flashlight clicking over and over. They frequently stay there for up to the end of the collapse waiting for me to come try to hit them. Then in the chat they call me trash and tell me to uninstall. I’m honestly ready to just set this game down and never pick it up again, I was having so much fun with it but now I just wanna forget I ever played it. What am I supposed to do?
I'm gonna be real with you man, there's no one holding a gun to your head forcing you to get shit on. If you're having a bad run of games, then take a break. If the game is a never ending conga line of frustration and you're not having fun, there's no shame in dropping it, uninstalling and finding something that actually sparks joy. And don't let sinking money into it force you to ruin your afternoon trying to get blood from a stone.
I agree with you. Survivors are toxic as hell but the key is to just get used to it. It’s very clear the developers haven’t gave a shit about killers in the last few patches, they are 100% survivor biased and although I do really like this game, it’s looking like this game is kinda getting worst for me because the devs just keep fucking with the game in bad ways. They have my support for now, but if the state of the game keeps being this way, I have no problem with not supporting them anymore. The matchmaking is also one of the worst I have ever seen in a game. It becomes so unbalanced when you have 4 rank 1 survivors with a rank 20 killer, or when it’s all mixed up as hell. I do like this game, but there are just things the devs do that don’t make me enjoy it anymore sometimes.
Franklin’s demise will handle the flashlight problem 😈 Also, learning tiles is important in dealing with loops. Try to mind game the survivors that loop you as well. There are videos about survivors that loop and how to counter them.
The only way you are gonna enjoy yourself is if you completely let go. Realize ranks don't mean shit and don't play competitively, shrug every loss off and keep going and also dodge lobbies that seem shady or where you see stuff like flashlights or keys. Best regards from a rank 11 doctor.
You have to respect this man, He's so positive and the first thing he says is something people won't want to hear "You have to play alot more". Instantly tells everyone that they won't get good and that might make then click off the video. I love otz for his honestly!
I would have added in the end, that everyone has bad matches, and even if you lose the match, that you had to win, don't give up and keep it up. But in general, it is an extremely important guide. Thank you, Otz
@@yurichtube1162 no one in their right mind would keep someone who wants to ban all social media, he only keeps on winning elections because of elderly and religious people who believe everything he says.
@@yurichtube1162 Cem is kinda right but no one can meddle Turkey's Democracy if not a citizen of Turkey so this doesn't concern you. Thank you for shutting your mouth up if so!
Imagine the "power" unit having to take all of this into consideration at all times while the other side can just play on a more casual level and be fine
The best advice I can give for killer players is knowing who to chase, when, and most importantly that bailing out on a chase can sometimes be a good thing. Overcommiting is usually a killers 'tilt' moment.
try iridescent head+soldier belt huntress. Takes only half a game to get me from depressed to happy. Sadly, it makes you feel bad the later half of the game :D
Sorry to hear that, and disappointed that I know the feeling. Today I played killer for about 6 hours, and got non-stop swfs. Got 4 man swfs, 3 man swfs and once 2 2 man swfs in the same game. Hang in there, hopefully it will get better in the near future.
@@hamburgercheeseburger7959 That is mostly true, but when I'm rank 12 and both 2 man swfs are rank 1 and 2, and can co-ordinate separately (basically 1 being chased, the other knows about it and is on a gen, and the other 2 man are doing separate gens whilst calling out my location if they see me) is just as frustrating as a 4 man in my experience. I've found that 4 mans tend to be more altruistic than 2 mans, so you can at least punish swarming the hook. But when you see 3 gens pop within 30 seconds of each other, and have only injured, not downed or hooked, injured 1 surv; knowing that despite not being a 4 man, they are just as effective; that is frustrating.
Yea i play sometimes I just find the game boring and frustrating now all killers do is tunnel and camp tbh and matchmaking is str8 trash im rank 5 and get rank 20s as teammates but a rank 1 killer omegalul
Honestly, your videos have been really helpful, even the ones where you're focusing on just playing or doing streaks because you'll often note things like what the survivor is thinking, and it's gotten me more into that mindset and really helps a lot. I used to watch all of your Dark Souls videos and some of your DBD videos, but never played myself. Recently my girlfriend convinced me to get into it since she plays, and while I don't enjoy survivor as much, killer is definitely engaging enough to make me want to play more. Thank you for that Otz.
Thanks Otz for the guide! I'm a red rank survivor that started doing killer for the Tome and Daily challenges. It was pretty easy at first just transferring some survivor knowledge, but I started struggling before I hit green rank. Glad to get more strategies to implement as killer and to consider when surviving!
I just want to say thank you Otz for the first 2 minutes of this video. You've definitely inspired me to keep trying as killer. I've been stuck at rank 10 forever and can never seem to go any higher because of red rank survivors. (I am one as well but that's beyond the point) I want to main Killer but things always go uphill when I hit rank 10 but you've definitely inspired me to try and push further through experience instead of perks and add-ons. Thank you!!!
How is it not the point if you are rank 1 survivior you should be at least red rank killer. But nope i understand that it is extremly to easy to pip up as survivor
@@Kitsune81 No, it should be more like Friday the 13th: The Game, where the killer can get a glimpse of where the survivors are but spawns a fair distance away from them, killers are able to kill survivors almost instantly without needing to perform a literal/metaphorical voodoo ritual, and teleporting doesn't cause you to stand there like a sitting duck for several seconds. The whole point of both a slasher movie and an asymmetrical multiplayer game is to have one person that's highly overpowered and everyone else has to work together in order to win. F13 might be dead, but it's still a helluva lot better than DbD
@@CountOfMonteCristo_ Well it's certainly dead in terms of updates, and to anyone who doesn't have decent internet due to the game now being P2P instead of server-based (#FuckVictorMiller)
@@pinktrue5647 Damn, that sucks. I can understand his frustration with constantly being asked the same questions but for someone just dropping into the stream for the first time it might not be obvious to read the faq. And lets face the truth that nobody likes to read stuff like that anyways. There's a very real reason most public signs use pictures instead of words.
Can we all apreciate how flawless his choice in background music? (Some of that was in kings field 4 if i not mistaken) All and all - well done sir))) Great video!!!
I got 2000+ hrs in the game and main killer but it's always fun and entertaining to watch your educational videos, seeing basic advice put into clear words can really work as a touch-up on what I might have forgot after a while, love the vids otz, keep up the great job!
"Knowledge for new Killers" "Im gunna assume you know everything about your killer, all perks, and best builds for your killer....." Ok, guess this isnt for people new to playing killer.
Well yeah, a guide for new killers is way too huge of a topic to cover the “best” build for every killer. That’s why you pair this video with a video about your killer and you’re golden
I mean, if you buy the game expecting to play Killer, you should already know what are your abilities, and if you're looking to actually get good at the game and being capable of going against high level players, at least enough to actually look for guides like this one, you should already know the optimal builds for the Killer you've decided to main But I agree it's not really a guide to 0 hours killers
Ah, thanks, man for this tips. I absolutely love it. I am genuinely new to this game, but with your replays I know about this game more than I could knew if I learned it by myself for 100 hours. I glad to find your channel two weeks ago. Love you. Hope I will tough enough to encounter you in the future:)
Thanks for the tips. I currently have about 400 hours in the game and have gotten into the pattern of either destroying or being destroyed. I know things like crows and survivor head movement, but this helped seal everything together.
Otz, you're a treasure to the community and one of the greatest content creators I've ever followed! I'm pretty confident at red ranks and I still picked up a thing from the video (matching names to characters at the start screen, Idk why I never thought of that!) Only downside is that even though this video is only 3 hours young it already has outdated info, with the midchapter patch you'll be locked into a character and can't swap certain killers when you see a survivor set running certain items now. :/
Thank you for your beginning message. I'm rank 14 and they have been matchmaking me with ranks 1-5 survivors. I was beating myself up last night. But after you speech, I remembered that I have only been playing 3 weeks *slaps forehead*. This guy is very helpful and I know I'll get better with time :) Thank you!
Just wanted to give you a shout out Otz! I’ve followed you since my killer journey and you’ve gotten me from a rank 20 to rank 6 within a month. You are by far my favorite DBD RU-vidr and you taught me to have fun and enjoy the challenge. Thanks for everything you do. I check everyday for new content. Thanks 🙏
thanks for this video otz! i've been on hiatus from dbd for the last 6 months and your guides have helped me to get back into the game. started playing a few games during the halloween event and i got from rank 20 to 12 in a couple of days and managed to held up against rank 5-8 survivors that i got matched up with. couldn't have done it without you, cheers!
I've always tried to hook all survivors once before going for second hooks on anyone, out of fairness/politeness, which definitely gives them more time in the grand scheme of a match. I hadn't thought about the idea of ignoring 1-2 others to secure death hooks earlier, really helpful advice!
Thanks man, I've played since december almost daily but never delved into the killer aspect. The tutorial doesn't have a lot of information and it can be lacking of, so your video really helped. You're very right also, nothing beats playtime and experience
Thanks otz, as someone who returned recently into dbd to try out PH, 2 things really helped me - mentuoning the game time and spreading damage. I felt like after 100hours I shouldn’t be bad, but still I struggle against even purples sometimes (I’m currently at 10), so it was a thought along the lines “I guess if I’m not good after 100h I will never be). And after switching targets to injure multiple people especially at the start I always felt I’m playing wrong and should instead focus on downing 1 person
I haven't played properly in like a year. This was very helpful. Your channel is getting me wanting to play this game again. Your content Is enjoyable endlessly even after I move on with the game
Also for very new players (survivor): don't get scared. This is a PVP CO-OP game that presents itself as a horror game. It has dark visuals and creepy looking killers but it's still a person and ready for a chase. The shock factor will wear off but just remember that nothing scary really happens. I've seen so many new players panic just because they're scared off the killer.
I knew a lot of this already, but the specific hints for managing game flow and pressure, like 15 seconds or so to get some value in a chase, etc, do make me more confident
Mood. I watched a shitton of Tru3ta1ent before picking up the game and I careened right into Rank 8 in my first 30 hours of the game and I had no idea how the fuck to deal with it.
I asked Otzdarva to give me a tip for a killer on stream. He told me he is not a tip machine. Guess now he accepted his faith that he is one (joke). Love you Otz
Wow i just picked up this game this week, awesome timing on this video upload for me :) Thank you for sharing all your god knowledge with us Otz, and honestly you seem like such a sweet person overall
Thank you for the video! I am new-ish to the game and just started playing seriously in the past few weeks. I noticed some survivors outloop me constantly and i was feeling bad when I abandoned the chase to find easier prey. now I know its a legit strat!
"If you have a few hundred hours in this game don't expect to be able to go against people with thousands." I thought me having 30 hours on the game was a lot...
Ranking system seems extra broken lately.. Rank one survivor solo and ill be getting a rank 17 killer with green survivors.. had a match where i got a rank 20 killer with 17 and up survivors 😑😑
I just started yesterday and it's hard to find people they are always hiding and it's so hard to see them. Or there's op players that are impossible to catch.
1000 hours and I'm still not confident as killer. This helped a shit ton I never knew a lot of this. I was hesitant to "tunnel" the weakling thinking it was toxic. I never thought that a chase COULD only last 15 seconds. Thank you so much
I started playing about 3 weeks ago and I've been playing against red ranks. But this only happens around the evening time. Also that last tip was extremely helpful with the POV when you vault.
"if it takes more than 15 seconds you should probably let him go and focus someone else" me: getting chased until im down, no matter if it takes 15 seconds or 5 minutes every single time xD
Just started, am playing Oni a lot, I appreciate this video in the few hours I have played I actually picked up on a lot of these things. Thanks Otz I got this game because of you.
@@Zantatre i think there's something wrong with the matchmaking, either if you low rank killer or low rank surv, if paired with red rank opponent , ofcourse it's not gonna be fun T.T
I know most of these tips and knew them when I first started out. I first played hag, then mained huntress. I got a great first wind and then immediately started getting stomped no matter what. Even if the killer was great. I then started playing survivor to supplement my bp. But I found I got stomped there. I then took a long hiatus for a whole year. I have recently returned and I am addicted to playing wraith. This video has really brought back from the brink. Thanks otzdarva for helping me. Your content is great but you are better than anything you could make.
