The mistake that I see the most and i wish some people started to understand is to NEVER work on a gen at the start of the game with 3 people if noone has Prove Thyself. This is such a waste of a time - killer has much easier time pressuring you, after hooking your teammate across the map. Always split up if you're in groups of 3 or more, go to the other side of the map, start different gens. If a killer has no info perks or even if he does - seeing 2 people on different gens with BBQ and not seeing the 3rd one is that exact moment a killer realizes "i'm fucked"
@vry6946
@vry6946 2 года назад
The worst thing is that it hardly gives you a time advantage, it is only about 5-10 seconds less than a generator repaired by two people That's why I never do generators between 3-4 people at the beginning of the game since you lose too much pressure and give the killer an advantage
@HideSpikes
@HideSpikes 2 года назад
@@vry6946 yeah exactly, but if someone has prove thyself then go and do it in 27 seconds, that's why prove is a strong perk. It helps at the beginning of the game usually, and at the end when there's 1 gen left and you need to commit

This is a good example of what I don’t like about prove thyself. It makes people think they should be teaming up on gens if they have it. Whether you have prove thyself or not, always split up until there are less gens than people. Prove thyself doesn’t even fully make up the penalty of cooping a gen.
@HideSpikes
@HideSpikes 2 года назад
@@steelsactap it depends on the situation. Pain resonanse, Pop, Deadlock, Tinkerer - all things perks are prevented if you do a starting gen with other people. Also if there's Ruin and a person who did his gen alone gets pushed from it - it goes down to 0. So depending on perks you make different decisions

Speaking of the whole "Dying in the corner of the map" thing, some survivors used this against me in quite a nasty way yesterday. They just had one guy with no mither who would constantly run to the corner of the map when I was about to get them then their team would sabo the only hook that was in distance of them so I would be forced to leave them so they can self revive and repeat the process.

This is why I say DBD is two separate games with some mechanical crossover being played at once. Killer is a totally different ball game than survivor. I think this is why the community is so often split as to who is more powerful.

@@dumblenutz5561 I agree with you. I find that the biggest problem for me at least is that most of the people I talk to about the game, don't enjoy what the game is as much as complain about what it isn't. Reddit for DbD is weird because it feels more like a constant twitter thread than a usual reddit. lots of angry people on there who make excuses for not being good at the game, so they have to misrepresent what the game is to justify toxic behavior.
@renaldoawesomesauce1654
@renaldoawesomesauce1654 2 года назад
I think it's split because killer is harder to play, but not necessarily imbalanced in every way. A nurse main probably has an edge over most survivor groups. But nobody can convince me that playing Ace with DH and BT is "harder" than learning how to play nurse well. So killer can be frustrating because when you're playing tag and you can't catch anyone, it sucks. It makes you want to quit. However getting "tagged" just feels like part of the game. It feels like it's meant to happen. The other aspect is that not all killers are created equal. Pig mains might correctly say the game is survivor sided, but blight mains won't feel it as much.
@dumblenutz5561
@dumblenutz5561 2 года назад
@@renaldoawesomesauce1654 this is also reminds me of another thing that creates animosity between both sides Some toxic killers act like survivor is the easiest thing in the world and glorify themselves for picking the killer role, and completely ignore how hard solo queue is most of the time I'd argue solo is usually even worse than killer, because as the latter you can at least depend on your own ability to turn the game around Solo is just a lost cause if your team sucks and the killer is smart tho

After playing with solo queue, #1 is less of the player issue and more of a team issue. Players I think naturally play more passively with more hooks as they know they are going to die but I have met so many solo queue survivors who just never take a down for a teammate. As a killer, I once managed to find a blendette who had 0 hooks despite some of her teammates being on death hook already, only for her to dc at 1st down which threw them the game (last gen already). My worst example and also funniest experience was a guy who brought a key and whose perks were distortion, empathy, sole survivor, and left behind. He openly bragged that I didn't manage to hook him once and get the 4k as he was the only one who escaped by letting his team die on 1st hook, then unlocking a hatch I closed. Endgame chat was hilarious: his whole team cursing him while he replied that solo queue is ass, deal with it and it was every man for himself. For me, that was the 1st time I saw somebody actually bring the perk sole survivor and learned the type of person who would do that

Love these tips, some more I'd throw in: 1) Please do NOT rush to rescue right away. Each hook stage has 60 seconds, so you can play time and do some gens until you figure out who's doing the rescuing and who's still on gens 2) Get a gate to 99 percent if you or your teammates feel like rescuing someone. This will prevent EGC from happening, so you have more time to rescue the survivor should you wish to do so 3) Abuse 99s more in general, because when you do a gen that location is given away to the killer. You can sneak in a heal before popping the gen for example. 99s can help if you have a hunch the killer has NOED (e.g. he's been hard camping people) and need time to take out the totems for it before popping the last gen. 4) Know when to cut your losses and get out of there. I've seen altruism get survivors killed, especially in a scenario where NOED is up and people don't have BT + DS + DH etc to fight it during rescues or someone isn't doing totems. That said PLEASE don't be the person who hides in basement/locker and lets everyone die early just so you can get hatch, only do so when you realise the game is hopelessly lost and it's looking like a hatch game (survivors dying early, everyone's on death hook, only 1-2 gens are done etc) 5) Keep an eye on your teammates status icons, if you see one get injured "killer's on Jake" and if you can't hear TR/see them you know they're miles away and you're safe on the gen 6) Speaking of status icons, use those to ID the killer ASAP as well as other clues (generic terror radius means it's one of the older killers, sound helps ID a Wraith by his woosh sound when cloaking, chainsaws are obvious, Nurse's scream etc). This helps you ID who you're against, so you know what killer power you're facing and how to deal with it. Nightmare has the white clocks on survivors faces, Pinhead's is blue circle chain, Plague has green circle to denote infected once she's infected a teammate, Pig has her timer circle with traps, Jigsaw boxes if you see them before you see her that's Pig also. Spine chill on + no terror radius + red stain, could be stealth killer as well as perks/add ons 7) Be mindful of hook states. Otz did touch on this in this video, but if you've not been hooked once and the others have been, perhaps it's time for you to be the one rescuing others + taking hits if you have to 8) One trick i do (it seemed to work judging by this TTV I faced in solo queue, I checked the VOD and the gen mostly masked my aura vs BBQ and Chilli unless he's at a certain distance/angle to said gen), is soon as I hear someone's downed, I let go of the gen, rotate round so it's between me and the downed teammate and then keep repairing it. That way I can keep working on my gen while denying the killer value after his hook. It's not foolproof, sometimes the hook is at another angle relative to the downed survivor but it definitely makes it harder for the killer to track me post hook 9) Be mindful of verticality on 2 floor maps. Basically Midwich and RPD, but some maps have upstairs parts too (Lery's, Thompson house of the farm maps, Dead Dawg's Saloon etc). This is good to know because you can hear the terror radius like he's very close to you, but the killer is above/below you. Don't let this make you panic, try to get confirmation before fleeing that killer is near you and not above/below you in a spot they can't immediately get to you. On that note, nurse can blink vertically too, so be careful of that Optional tip: - I HATE camping as much as any other player, but if you wanted your team to win, along the lines of 1), waste his time on both stage 1 and 2 of the hook. That's 2 minutes your teammates can do gens while he stares at you like an idiot wanting you to die. This is assuming your teammates collectively agree to punish the killer like this. Of course it's EXTREMELY unfun for the person on hook and the survivor side feel bad leaving that person on hook, so that's why many don't do that and I don't blame you either. I wish the devs would punish it the same way Pyramid Head's cages do, teleport after a few seconds of being near it but they won't so *shrugs*, that's just how it is sadly

Very good advice. Regarding #8, if you see the hooked person is at an angle that will leave you exposed while working on any side of the gen you can let go of the gen and hide behind a "corner" of the gen until BBQ ends (it's around the same time the "bubble" around the hook disappears) and then resume working on the gen. Basically try to make sure the gen is between you and the killer's field of view, even if it means stopping working on the gen for a few seconds.

But try not to sound like a survivor main here bro lol I’m one myself I try not to be but- camping IS OKAY! Everything u said is legit on the matter just don’t speak of the action negatively! This. Killers get accused of camping when in reality the survivors are not giving the killers a reason to leave the area. Survivors loop around the hooked survivor, insta unhook, unhook after 5 seconds, and all come for the rescue. Altruism absolutely wrecks killers if played correctly. Best strategy that I tell my friends, ALWAYS be doing something. Being on a gen/saving a teammate is #1 priority. Healing is next then doing totems (unless you see a hex before a gen then of course do it) I see SO many new survivors who think they have time to walk around and check out the killer, check the basement chest, vibe around then don't do a gen for 4 minutes when the killer gets a couple hooks and you end up losing. 1 or 2 people like this on your team can mean an auto lose if they don't get chased

And a bad totem placement generated by map titles means that a killer has to waste time more and more to cleans it often because it can be a nuance for the killer to deal with. And to top it off if the killer has hexes which most do rn. It was a legion, chasing me and 5 seconds after I was on the hook 2 gens popped and he started camping the hook in a 5 meter radius... Two of the others came to unhook me and he tunneled. I jumped into the locker next to the hook. He was standing in front of the locker and trying to bait a head on stun out of me for so long that I had crows above me and the next 3 gens popped... He then took me out of the locker and face camped. The other 3 got me unhooked once more but no BT so I was instant down, dead and they escaped. My perks where: Borrow Time, Bonding, Kindred, Spine Chill 🤣 They saw him camping and did the right thing, just finishing the gens. Common mistake: Randomly letting go off the gen for no important reason and then having the gen explode cause of a skill check you couldn't react to. In the beginning of the trial I like to let go off the gen to see if the killer has Ruin and having the status icon show up on the HUD. Instead of randomly letting it go you should wait for a skill check and let go immediately after the skill check is done. This makes it so the gens won't explode, giving the killer no information and avoiding the regression penalty.

As someone who's only been playing survivor for 2 months, I can't/won't say I'm skilled or good at the game. I try to watch lots of DBD content so I can learn new things or learn from my mistakes. I'm by no means a veteran; just your casual gamer who tries to be a decent teammate on solo queue. But last night I had a game against a Wraith on Autohaven Wreckers where I followed Otz's Good Strategy #5 without realizing it. I was on death hook and injured; most of my team was also injured (shout out to David, Steve, and Mikaela, btw). I saw that one of the exit gates was open, but not the one I was closest to. I didn't want David or Steve to go down because they were also on death hook, so I caught Wraith's attention and ran to the opposite end of the map. He chased me (luckily) and I got downed in a corner near the unopened exit gate; he hooked me, but it was too late by that point. My teammates escaped; I was the only kill that that Wraith got. He played fairly, I think, so I wasn't upset. I'm just glad my teammates lived.
@samandrielswings
@samandrielswings 2 года назад
it's easy to say "just hide when dead on hook" but the sad reality is that the vast vast majority of your teammates aren't going to take a chase, so unless you're planning on urbaning from corner to corner, you'll end up dead soon anyway. because you'll still try to do gens, while your teammates hide at the slightest sound of terror radius.

In this situation if they are doing nothing at all but sit in the corner, then you should too or you are just going to die. The killer will patrol gens without a survivor to chase and find you. If they are on gens but you mean they hide at the terror radius - do it too, go to another gen and make it less likely the killer specifically goes after you. Both things are torturous and how I wouldn’t play either as I would also rather just do the gen. But if you care about surviving then those are the best plays imo.

One really big mistake I see a lot is "gens before friends". A lot of survivors don't understand that it doesn't matter if you finish 3 gens if you let someone die, because a 3v1 is almost impossible to win. It's very situational if you should do the gen first or save first, but the biggest takeaway is don't let anyone on your team die unnecessarily if you can help it (unless it's a camping insta down killer, then leave them). Edit: Obviously I was exaggerating a bit in my previous comment, I clearly didn't mean that a 3v1 is impossible to win. My point was only that it makes the game so much harder to win. Also it's very situational, for example a good nurse is far more likely to win in any case vs a lower tier killer or if a killer plays on their worst map they are more likely to lose. There are a plethora of things that can change the odds of winning or losing and every game is situational. That's what makes dbd the asymmetrical game that it is, which is one of the reasons why I love it so much! All I'm saying is don't let your team die unnecessarily because it makes the game more difficult. And personally, I try to save my team even if I die or if it might not be the best play because I find that fun and I hate not trying my best to save everyone.

A lot of survivors also don't acknowledge perks like Retribution, Haunted Grounds or Pentimento. They see a hex totem and they cleanse it. While that is tempting ofcourse, I'm of the thought that if you don't know what a Hex is (ex. no ruin, blood favor, etc. in play) there's no reason to cleanse it. Unless ofcourse you see a lit totem after all generators are done, then you can usually quite safely assume it's NOED.
@brandonvargas2790
@brandonvargas2790 2 года назад
Right? One time in this spirit match there was no ruin or devour. Yet this Mikaela cleansed the totem which shockingly ended up being haunted ground helping the spirit snowball more and win the game. If she only took 2 seconds to analyze that there were no threat hex perks and its a spirit...maybe it's not worth cleansing
@Sukigu
@Sukigu 2 года назад
I don't think that strategy is very viable. Certain hex perks have the potential to help the killer to snowball the match more easily like Devour Hope or Haunted Ground (when inevitably one of your teammates cleanses it anyway at the worst time), and even other perks like Blood Favor or Crowd Control might catch you and other players off-guard if you get caught in a bad spot and you didn't know they were in play. Perhaps you can be a bit smarter and only cleanse an unknown totem when everyone is injured or if the killer has just downed someone so that you minimize the risk, but I still think it's better to get them out of the way sooner rather than later.

I wish those "team perks" would also be used more. They're so powerful but they really only work when you have at least one other person queue with you. Distortion, for example, is more or less useless in that aspect if you're alone and you might as well bring one of those meta "selfish" perks. Honestly, even a chat system between survivors when in-game would be good but I understand why they won't do that (console). I genuinely think if they want to bring Solo up to the level of SWF before they buff killers, they need just give a better way for survivors to communicate with each other. Whether thats through pings, voice chat, text chat, etc. Communication is what makes SWF so strong and once you give that to solo survivors, you can make killers stronger assuming that ALL survivors have those good comms instead of having to cater to the survivors that solo queue and will generally be clueless and have a 4th of the information.

Cope just posted a video yesterday of him against a nurse and during end game he used deliverance and was broken but also had DS and he got downed near the gate. The issue was that both DS and Deliverance has a 60 sec time and the killer knows this and was looking at the icon to see when his broken status went away to pick up because that means DS is also gone but when he picked up DS was still active because a teammate had Vigil and that tricked the killer and Cope used DS and escaped.

You have a 1 in 4 chance of being the first survivor found by the killer. That's essentially a free generator most of the time, barring edge cases. Those are some great insights, one I see often is people giving up when they ID BBQ or alternatively not properly playing against it. Some things that should be remembered are that the killer sees auras for a short period after hooking, it does NOT show your aura if you are inside the terror radius and that the aura reading follows normal aura rules. By hiding in a locker, running in a fake direction for 4 seconds, faking a gen or running distortion you can give the killer faulty info or even no info from their perk. If you are good at chases faking a gen or faking stealth just outside the terror radius is a great way to make yourself a very tempting target for any BBQ&Chili Coneuseiur If you are terrible at chases or are death hook and see the killer pick up a survivor near you, hop in a locker to avoid tuneling. If you are going for saves stick near the killer like glue once they pick up, but for the love of the entity stay out of sight. Just because they can't see your aura doesn't mean they lose the ability to see your face sticking out from behind that tree And if none of the above apply run in a fake direction for 4 seconds from the moment the killer hooks, then go in the correct (preferably opposite) direction via walking or stealth.

When it comes right down to it every Trial is basically a game of applying pressure points, both as a killer and survivor you should be aware when someone is trying to apply the right amount of force on a match to trigger what I term 'cascading failure', the point where one mistake takes the otherwise steady tempo of the killers and survivors and then gradually blows up into increasingly severe problems. Last night we were playing a Ghosface who was camping on hook. It was obvious that he just wanted one of us out of the game early so that he could then apply pressure to the rest of us when we were much weaker. He should have taken Bubba because what we proceeded to do was essentially rotate who was on the hook. At the low end of stage two we would go over to the survivor, yank them off with the expectation he would down one of us(While our fourth was still doing gens of course.) and then when he was hooking whoever went down, the person who had been hooked previously would hide and do gens. He eventually killed me but it cost him every other generator and all of my teammates escaped because he simply wasted too much time watching us on hook rather then applying consistent pressure to our team. Also as someone who always love to run team perks like Vigil, I appreciate the shoutout to them. Perks like that, For the People, We'll Make It, Leader, Prove Thyself, etc will make the killers life very difficult. Altruism is the Survivors greatest weakness but also their greatest strength, because at the end of the day the Killer can't be in four places at once. If you all work together you can overwhelm him.

thank you for the tips i'll try to apply them to my games more often specially the flashlight and locker ones cause they seem easier for me i often go into a locker if i know i'm going to get hit but i get out right away if the killer misses the attack and it serves no purpose because they hit me after that and if they have some perk that benefits from that they still get it, so maybe i'll stay in the locker when i know the killer will get me so they don't get value from their perk i will also try to make builds so i can use the flashlight like in that one other tip i often use builds that i need to bring a medkit to be able to heal, so i'll need to change it up a bit so i have a method of healing with my perks and then i can carry a flashlight and maybe try to help my teammates that way i'm not that good at flashlight saves but now i know how i can help my teammates in some other way using flashlights! often when i try to be the flashlight saver i don't get to do anything with my flashlight because it's kinda difficult to learn that, but now i can at least mess up the killer's chase when a teammate needs it i have to admit tho when i didn't know that i found it really weird how some players would just used the flashlight in a way that obviously wouldn't blind the killer, but maybe *some* of them were using this technique to buy time for other teammates(some of those players were just being a bit dumb tho i'm sure :' ) ) i'll rewatch this a few times too so i don't forget the tips

But one final thing I just played dbd for the first time and I saw this and I listened to all of it you truly made my day thank you.

On the topic of boons.. Don't go back to set up a new boon at the same spot over and over.. The killer knows what you're doing and is going to kick it out over and over if you insist on wasting your time doing that

A little extra on Boon Totem placement, specifically for Shadow Step, in my personal experience it's ok to place it as the beginning if you're placing it right next to a Gen, because you can get on that Gen and if the killer comes you can just sprint away and hide before they get there and see you and have no scratch marks. You don't even have to worry about the totem making noise since if you're doing a Gen there's already noise in that area anyways.

Also for the giving away your perks thing, Otz kinda chose a bad first example. Because while I get his point, Lithe, Quick and Quiet, and Dance with Me are three perks that the survivor has no choice but to have activate at the same time. So unless the killer is blind, of course they would be able to see it on the first fast vault.

As killer, recently, I've had quite a few of these happen to the group I'm playing against. Among them is 3 genning themselves and me getting a survivor hooked by the 3 gen. They can't do gens or save safely because they are all injured. So that ties problem 2 with 1 and another problem. I have no reason to leave that area, and they get mad at me for stating there, but why should I leave? This list is very important to abide by
@Debilinside

Yeah, thats a common beginner mistake but even good players do this sometimes. I had a game where 3 out of 4 were absolutely loop gods, and had 2 hooks at 1 gen, but I had such a good 3 gen that I ended up with a 4k (Dead Dawg). I was playing Vommy Mommy, so they eventually ran out of wells to cleanse, an when all 4 of them was injured I had easy time finding and downing them. Its also a general good advice for killers, Try to find a good 3 gen and always focus on those. It really improved my gameplay as a killer.

It happened to me sometime ago. I got a trigen on yamaoka, got two survivors on near hooks and I won because of that. After the game, the Bill I nearly let escape using the hatch called me a "trash camper", but what did they want me to do? Go to the other side of the map after hooking? The side that had NO GEN WHATSOEVER?

My friend (newbie) used to get so mad when killers wouldn’t leave a person hooked in a 3-gen or 2 people in the basement. I had to teach him that killers aren’t AIs - they’re generally people with common sense, so duh they won’t leave if you give them a great position.

Love the video Otz, one thing i would like to mention is I disagree on your take that using perks like ds, iron will, and dh as selfish compared to other perks that would help all your team like prove thyself, I had the same mindset as yours till I reliased the only person you can rely on in SoloQ is yourself, if you make all the perks you use benefit you and your experienced at the game, then using the strongest perks like DS is actually more beneficial for your whole team then other perks that would help your team directly, yes I can speed up gen speed slightly for my whole team, but did my DS or Deadhard I used mid chase that gained me an extra 20 seconds in chase actually benefit my entire team more than ANY perk?

Well said. Hes completely wrong on this. Sure youll get good survs like 10% of the time but most matches at least one teamate will be braindead. You need to only depend on yourself.

I have a feeling that one of the mistakes would be to not commit to a chase if the survivor is good a looping you and to try to find a weak link. Another tip would be to patrol gens.

I feel like doing gens separately is better than together because it pressures more at once. If 2-3 people are on one gen (even with prove thyself) and get pushed off, then learn the killer has ruin or pop, then all that progress is gone completely.

He said his survivors, so survivors at his level. So yes, they should be knowing what they're doing considering he's pretty good. Some people say he isn't but that's bc he doesn't always play to win, sometimes he plays to test stuff out and have fun. Which is what it should be tbh lmao

My favourite faking-stealth play is what I call "the classic jebait", where I get in a locker with head on just as the survivor gets hooked. If the killer has BBQ, they'll think I'm making a mistake and trying to avoid the perk too late, and they pretty much always come to grab me without considering the possibility of head on; I then stun them and start looping. Even if they catch me quicker than I'd like, the knowledge that they had that moment of "haha, gotcha" only to be totally blindsided makes it 100% worth it to me xD
