Please talk about the materials you use such as different types of foam, different types of fabric and uses of the fabric ie., indoor, outdoor, auto, marine. I know that’s a lot but I need to know a lot. Just starting out and redoing boat interior.
I give another vote for this type of video! Also [im redoing the inside of a van] which has a lot of ¿vinyl/vyinal? in it; I just finished reading about the heat sheets of that stuff. It seemed it only gets used on wearable fabrics, like t shirts & what not. 🕵Is that something i could use on my seats or even the harder stuff? Thanks if you answer or even read this all the way. 👍💁
I found your video while trying to do some research before starting my first project. I now know some basic tools that I will need, so thanks for that! I'm going to look at your other videos after this comment but just for some feedback to you, I would love to find a video that kind of walks us through a simple beginner project. I want to reupholster my loveseats but I'm starting to think I should start with something a bit smaller for my first project. I enjoyed this video!!!

Number 6 tack hammer. For decorative nails (finished nails) they must the C.S Osborne 6oz Nylon Tip Magnetic Hammer #36 so as to not damage the nail/finish.
These videos are great! Thank you for making them. Few questions... 1. What makes a "good" pair of shears? What length is best? 2. Where do you buy your upholstery specific tools and supplies? (I'm from Dartmouth 😊) 3. What are the sizes of your needles? (You showed your largest and smallest, I'm guessing 4"-1.5" but what's in between /how many sizes? Please keep doing these videos! I've been wanting to do this for a living but I have very limited resources in this area for reliable knowledge, thank you for sharing your experience! I'd really like to see which tools are used for which jobs and I would like to learn... 1. How to properly measure fabric. 2. How to choose and shop for fabric and where you choose to buy it. 3. How to do tufted buttons and cording. 4. What makes a piece difficult vs easier? In other words, how to choose a project that is challenging for your skill level but not in over your head, like in what order would you put things in if you were to chapter them in a book lol? A useful hint about the Parsons chair.if you finish stapling the front before finishing the sides.you can make sure the pattern on the front is straight.otherwise the corners left and right look slightly pulled down

I learned sooo much from you!! So much so - that I know I do not want to attempt to upholster my chairs!! I did the seats to my 6 dining chairs over 20 years ago, I enjoyed doing them & they looked nice!! But, just last month & went to a professional upholstery shop & they are going to do all my projects for me - so I am waiting 3 months for my items to be ready!! Because they are that busy!! My father died 3 months ago he had business doing this i been working with him off and on, but now he gone I want to keep going mostly I took coaches apart. I miss him and everyone in my family took all of things from me. I want to start on my own what my father dream was this videos are helping with my tax money I want to buy machines can you please keeping doing these I need to teach myself I am now how to sow alittlw bit from what he would push me to do for him. New Subscriber. Soooo intimidated by this craft. I’m a Newbie. I’m from many generations of furniture restoration, not upholstery though. My 1st project is a love seat with reclining ends that I used to sleep on as a 4 yr old. Now 50 years later. It was damaged during the Baton Rouge floods.
Hi please talk more about your shears brand name and where you bought it and the size. What to look for in buying a good pair. Do you recommend Fiskars? Also can you do a video on how to make sure the pattern or lines on fabric is straight. I watched one video but you went too fast and didn't catch that part. What do you do if there is a repeating pattern. Also can you do videos on what fabric choices for chairs. Pkease make the videos more often. Thank yoy

helpful... I'm just a DIY but I do run into needing to do very light upholstery from time to time and it's a skill I'd like to improve... so far all your videos have been very helpful in that regard
You forgot a really important one...THE SEWING MACHINE! Nothing is worse that having it out and loosing with a not so powerful..sewing machine for piping and all kinds of 2 and 3 thicknesses of fabrics..PLEASE have an episode covering the sewing machine.
Well Aimee, now I am concerned. My wife just bought a new pair of really nice shears. Does that mean I am replaced now? I mean I just did her dining room chairs, but I did complain about the previous dull shears. You are just too funny.
To be clear, I didn’t say that a good pair of shears would “replace” a husband. I said it would outlast a husband. Now, if you have a hot tub...I’d be worried. A hot tub can 100% replace a husband. 😜
Your video was very helpful I need to take 6in off of a sofa it's a sectional so I can work with a small piece that goes in the corner of the room but I just need to take 6 inches off so I can get it snug to fit

Tough week at the ranch and needed a change of pace! The seats I repair and recover use high density foam, could you give a brief lesson on shaping and repairing a section of damaged foam. My equipment consists of a mechanical stapler, odd types and sizes of whatever foam I can scrounge up, old flat sections of used seat covers to put over repairs before installing the cover and a roll of warehouse tough shrink-wrap to hold everything in place on a rough jobs before the cover gets fitted. I am the last resort for most people before they have to replace the entire seat and by keeping my prices low and being creative helped to create a small following. New foam is only an option for a few makes and models out of the hundreds that have been produced, shipping a used seat is no bargain. The last seat I got from Beaumont Texas cost me $56.14 and that cost more then the seat that needed plenty of work. Sorry about rambling but I'm hustling 3 part time jobs and don't get out much. Yes, I definitely have. I still have my notes from when I was in trade school, with every subject clearly mapped out the way the instructor taught it. I only need the time....😂

Love your humor. Great information. I had a sewing business out of my home for 10 years when my children were little. I made custom draperies, etc. for home decor. Hi Khorydan, thanks for your comment. Any reputable compressor would be good (Porter Cable or Campbell Hausfeld would be my recommendations) 4 gallon size is fine for one person stapling. You also need to purchase the hose and couplers, but any hardware store staff could help you figure out what you need.
