For today's instalment of beauty history, we are talking about a cosmetics industry giant - Estée Lauder. I know we usually talk about fashion houses, but I thought it would be interesting to talk about the history of this brand, and more specifically, the woman behind the name.

Captivating story. I'm a EL customer and didn't know the entirety of her background as you presented. I love their skincare. I use Revitalizing Supreme everything w/ Micro Essence follow up with ANR serum and of course their moisturizers, in addition to their Perfectionist Glycol Peel and their Retinol Treatment. I have a lot of their cosmetics, Perfectionist foundation, eye shadows palettes, lipsticks, and blushes. Yet I'm also in love with Chanel, and CT. Lately Armani LS foundation has been my go to. Don't get me started on their perfume. I have and love White Linen, Beautiful and recently splurged on Ikat Jasmine from their Aerin line. On my wish line is the Aerin Hibiscus Palm and the Tuberose EdPs. Thanks again for a wonderful presentation of Estee Lauder.

This was so interesting to me because I am Jewish and my grandparents immigrated to this country from Europe, as well, in the same way. What an empire Estée Lauder built for her legacy. Thanks for such an inspiring wonderful story. My mom used to wear the perfume “Private Collection” made by Estée Lauder and I always loved that one in particular.

Allison Chase yes! For sure!! I think it’s marvelous how she and her husband fell back in love again after their separation.. this happened with me and my husband. We separated for a while about 24 years ago and couldn’t stand being apart and realized we were hopelessly in love!

Thank you so much for this history of Estée Lauder. I wear Estée Lauder Doublewear foundation & my mother wore it too. My brother gave me my first bottle of Youthdew for my 21st Birthday. I think most people I the modern world will own or have own Estée Lauder at some point. Loving this series so much ❤️

Estée Lauder Night Repair Serum. I’ve been using it for a year and honestly my skin looks brighter and smoother than before and people have noticed the difference. Over the years I’ve used different skin care from them and I’ve found them all to be good to excellent. Their cosmetics are so so - not the highest quality but not awful either. Years ago they were MUCH better. My mom used her makeup and skincare from the mid 1950s - 1980s and they were really good. I think things changed when Estee died and the company changed. What a woman - I would have liked her I think! Ambition, courage and passion. A woman to admire for sure. You did a fantastic job - I’m loving this series. I love the perfume Pleasures and Beautiful Belle. Years ago I wore White Linen and loved it. I totally forgot about that one till it was mentioned in the video. 😊

Loved yet another A+ story! You do such a great job researching, finding pictures and talking about each person. I learned a lot about Estee Lauder. What an amazing woman and nice that she lived such a long successful life! Very inspirational! I didn't know some of the companies that are under the Estee Lauder umbrella...especially La Mer! Estée Lauder was an incredible and inspiring woman. You really did excellent research on her and I discovered many facts that were new. I recall when I was 14 my Mom took me to the Eaton’s Centre in Toronto to buy my first skin care products from Clinique; and I recall receiving a gift with purchase 😊and my first fragrance was Estée Lauder’s White Linen.

Hi Allison, what a coincidence! I just received some new Estée Lauder foundation called Hydra Rescue in the mail today! This past year 2019 I dipped back into this brand. I love the pure color envy sculpting lipsticks. I always think of this as the iconic American brand. As a teenager I aspired to afford these products (1980’s). When I was a young bride at the age of 24, I was thrilled to use this makeup on my wedding day! I will never forget my lipstick shade and matching E.L. nail polish “Rose Diamond” I loved them for years after! I went on to use the skincare over the years up into my 40’s. Trying new products promising results always lead me astray, but I never had a bad experience with Estée Lauder. The sparkling sapphire blue and gold packaging is gorgeous. This was very uplifting, I loved it. You really know how to deliver a story!

Hello Allie! I enjoy the video so much. I already knew the Lauder history for a long time but told by you was so interesting! My favourites are the skincare the gold line, the foundation I prefer the Double Wear and the parfum always the first version of White Linen. Hi Allie! What a marvelous beauty history installment on the icon, Esteé Lauder. I grew up on her cosmetics but knew precious little about her life. I can only imagine how mortified young Esteé was by the woman in the salon as a teen but she used that as a catalyst to grow, learn, and ultimately succeed. As for a suggestion of which EL product you should try, I think you’d like the Double-Wear Foundation. I have dry, mature skin & I adore the Esteé Lauder Hydramist foundation! It provides a semi-full coverage with a dewy finish. When I still had combo / oily complexion, I wore the Double-Wear daily. I’ve also loved many Clinique products especially their lipsticks. Another bang-up job, Allie. I’m delighted to share your video. 👏🏼👏🏼

Great video. Really enjoying the series. 8 have used Estee lauder doublewear foundation for over 20 years. I've tried other brands but nothing that I repurchased again like the doublewear it's great for my oily skin looks amazing and lasts all day.

Thank you for this video, I'm not going to lie, I cried by the end of this. First I teared up, by the discussion of identity - how often immigrants have to 'adjust' themselves to even think about becoming successful (so wrong), secondly - how lovely it is indeed, when a couple can rekindle and find themselves once more, for good! I feel ashamed, I never knew her roots. BTW Allie, I'm a Hungarian from Transylvania, living in LDN, my real name is so very Hungarian, I quickly gave up myself, to try and make people learn it. However all my friends and colleagues know the real deal : ) I don't think anyone should be expected to lie about their heritage in order for their skills to be acknowledged. Her perseverance and resolutions shows of extraordinary strength. Last but not least, as an obligation of my roots, and for your content to be valid, here is the obligatory angry Hungarian commenter's note, that Hungary is not Eastern Europe :'D It is Central Europe. At least, it always thinks it is, but in reality it is not :D I hope you get the irony in this/are aware of current political occurrences. Usually whenever anyone mentions that Hungary is Eastern, the video gets a few dozen offended comments about how it is not. Quite hilarious. :D

@@AllisonChase I feel the need of being technical: the reason for confusion is both geographical and political. Geographically, Eastern Europe starts from the eastern bank of the Danube River. This river slashes across Hungary, right in the middle, and right through the capital, Budapest. Politically, unfortunately Hungary was once part of the Soviet Union, highly Eastern European entity. Also politically the past decade has been about how Hungary doesn't want to further westernise or globalize its culture, giving the EU a great deal of headache. So yep. Neither is correct, but neither is wrong : ) you're fine. :D

I love their double wear foundation. I have tried so many others and nothing beats it. I have oily skin and it never cakes. I always put a thin layer and it is so long wearing and doesn't budge.

Yet another great video in this series, thank you for all the effort you put into it, Alison! Now imagine having built that sort of empire without all the modern perks and technologies we have at our disposal today... an epitome of a business woman, so much hard work & dedication & passion. Products wise, I’ve been using Estée Lauder brown eye pencil Coffee since I was 18. I believe it’s the first product of that sort I used & it is always in my cosmetic pouch to this day. I repurchase Espresso liner by Chanel & try new ones sometimes, but I’m never without that one🌸 it’s just the best. Her liners are great, lip liners included. Very long lasting. Also love her gel eyeliner in a pot (that stuff survives a long flight in an eye mask & doesn’t budge or fade!). Her eyeshadows used to be great; haven’t purchased them in awhile & can’t speak to how the formula is these days. Skincare wise, a bottle of Advanced night repair serum is always on my vanity, repurchased many times & will keep doing so😉

So interesting! Have you watched Unorthodox on Netflix? The main character is named Esty, also short for Ester. I never out it together that Estee Lauder was short for Ester until I watched that show. My 4th grade teacher wore Youth Dew and every time I pass by the Ester counter I sniff it and think of her. Mrs. Fox was a nice lady and also my mother's friend. Nice memories.

@@AllisonChase I agree. Oftentimes, there is a little resemblance between the original company and the new one, like Chanel, Givenchy, and more...Those who did not update- had a hard time to survive, like Nina Richi...But not always the upgrades are the best company's version.

@@AllisonChase I remember they had a cosmetic line when i was in my early twenties (more than 20 years ago) and must say i was never drawn to it...But their story must be fascinated, like most of these brands :).

Hi Ally, my Grandmother (Hungarian too) always wore Estee Lauder rouge in a little white pot, lipstick and Youth Dew.. Helena Rubinstein was also another cosmetics pioneer in the early 20th century. Not sure if you ever heard of her? Can't wait to hear about Coco. Great video!

I think they have some good skin care. But their makeup 💄 is average at best. I have bought their lipstick, but they are very waxy in texture and not long lasting. The makeup is not high quality in my opinion.
