Looks like a great idea with no drawbacks, other than Americans will think it's creepy and somehow "doomsday" relataed

I am American and I dream of the day that the people themselves could run the government online without politicians or corporate interference. I would also make it illegal for corporations to be identified as people and therefore having a right to vote and participate in the government which always leads to financial and economical disaster because they would manipulate the laws to increase their profit in spite of the actual citizens. We also have a government with a wealth and power addiction that is operating beyond the rule of law and there is no current cure or solution to stop them. Our elections are fixed so we cannot even vote for a better government because they are all for the people during the campaign and once they are elected, they almost immediately betray the people who voted them in. The majority of the oversight committees and other internal affair groups within the government are also corrupt for the most part. They are also addicted to war, occupation, and resource theft from other countries so much that they will go out of their way and use whatever means necessary to make any country look like the enemy even if they conspire to fake an attack on their own people. So yes, if our own government proposed a plan to make governing the country simple for the people by using computer technology then you better believe we are going to be suspicious of their motives. When your government is infested with greedy, power hungry, psychotic politicians who's only loyalty lies with their corporate sponsors and not the people who "voted" for them then the last thing we would want is them running their own online system of governing which they can and will manipulate to fulfill all their wants and needs from every citizen with a (I would also believe instead of cards, they would chip us with RFID) chip in their flesh. Now if you introduced a program to replace the entire government we currently have that is run and overseen by and for the people then I would welcome with open arms. I'm sure the organization of so much data and Information will be a logistical nightmare but it would be worth it instead of the current alternative!

The right to internet access is the right to be tracked. Single centralized data system, Single point of failure. Estonians seem like good people. I hope they've considered individual safeguards here.

It is actually NOT a single centralized database, search for X-Road here on RU-vid. People in Estonia have control over their information, not the other way around. You guys, assuming that you're from the US, have the "Big Brother" that's watching you, here in Estonia we tend to call our gov-t "Little Brother" that you can control and maybe beat up sometimes, if he doesn't behave well. You can see who is watching your data and why, with names and all. If someone misuses your information, let's say illegally, that person will go under an investigation immediately per your request, and maybe go to jail. All of our digital systems are actually very secure and transparent, Estonia is known for its cybersecurity. About the tracking part.. err... if a state would want to track you it would not need any of those systems, any gov-t already has necessary information and access to it to track you.

Thank you for the information.. It sounds like Estonia learned the hard lessons from being a Soviet satellite, especially about being able to see who is watching you.

Blockchain doesn't have a single point of failure, and VPNs are cheap or even free.

I think Uruguay is following suit. With digital e-peso and ID cards with chips and pins. None of our PC's have card readers so not sure how they will actually roll it out.

In the right hands, this system is great. However... I sure wouldn't trust our gov't with it!
