Again with this dumbass drivel. He didn't "invent" anything, at most he predicted something which is waaay different from creating a technology that complex, and even then you use Virtual reality with a heavy device within the four walls of a house to immerse yourself in a story or to similar a real life activity. If you don't see how completely different that is from putting on a couple of glasses the size of Ray-Ban while you're driving to see inexistent graffiti on a wall you shouldn't vote on anything ever
I love that the "owl" they use is actually Karl's animal-invention version: the owl-faced, slug-juiced, lettuce-eating thing that hangs about on the walls of people's houses with its peacock feathers on display.
Do we? There's a growth in people drinking smoothies, but they're not a new thing and it's not as though nobody eats anything anymore. Let's not get too carried away, just remember Karl's number five.
It feels like when Karl does the bits where Ricky is pretending to be a character he forgets that he is in fact just talking to Ricky Gervais and not a fictious creation because he asked as if Ricky would know what actually happens and would go into greater detail
This show has brought me years of laughter and helped me through anxiety, even relief from a bad breakup. The animation and their banter is just perfection.
Scrimpton is an awful word. That is Karl's point. He was right about this, the space of nice sounding, available words has contracted. Karl definitely read about this. The good example is drug names, where pharma companies pay people lots of money just to come up with drug names.
Not just Huel; think about juicers, smoothie-makers, juice bars. I wonder if this episode was recorded before or after Wall-E came out, because in the distant future portrayed in that film, all of the characters drink flavored meal replacements in cups.
@@juno1752 Wall-E came out in 2008, I’m guessing was before since they started doing XFM together in 2002-2003 but I don’t know when the podcast came out. But I doubt Karl has seen Wall-E 😂
7:40 Thats actually the reason teeth go crooked, seriously. Since food is softer we chew less and our mouths grow smaller.Karl predicted the rediscovery of the orthotropic premise.
Omg .....I’ve been listening to Ricky , Steve and Karl on XFM podcasts for 2 years to help my mental health whilst I wait to go to sleep at night .....I’ve only just discovered these ! Brilliant !
You need to watch the animated series, the Ricky Gervais Show. Then watch an idiot abroad. They are brilliant. I wish you well with your mental health issues.
i love how karl says that the welsh are running out because they've got less letters in the alphabet when the welsh alphabet actually has 3 more letters than the english alphabet
For a man who has been quite open about his lack of education (as much his parents' fault as his), Karl's propensity for sticking fast to things he's just made up is startling.
21:46 Find me another comedic duo who can riff off eachother as effortlessly and brilliantly as these two, god I hope they do work together again some day.
8:24 Karl predicts AR glasses and gets told it’s “absolutely pointless”, “would never work”, and it’s “a load of bollocks”. Now we have tons of AR apps and the Apple Vision.
Depends on the person. Personally haven't met many that go overboard on emojis unironically. At worst I've seen had a person replace a word with emoji once and that's it.
Not quite as Karl described/Stephen interpreted - with AR we see a mixture of real/virtual but using Karl's glasses the real would become the virtual (visually at least).
@@MLennholm google glasses aren't even what Karl described, text on a screen isn't changing your surroundings to live wherever you want to, but yeah Google glasses were shit
Insane at how right he was about number 4. People literally do have virtual spaces that line up with real spaces now. Maybe not at the compact scale that he referenced, but it could get there.
@@SphericaI funnily enough they actually addressed that very thing on one of the podcasts. Someone emailed in saying they think Karl is basically a creation of Ricky and Steve’s and they responded by saying they couldn’t possibly create someone so ridiculous 👀
Carl was kinda right about the glasses and the graffiti. There was an app where you could grafitti a wall in augmented reality and others could see it.
Also blending food. Our food has absolutely got softer, it’s why some people have jacked up teeth. Our jaws are weaker and they’re only getting weaker. Absolutely spot on there
