Etho Plays Minecraft - Episode 354: Guardian Farm Prep 

Digging is fun, eh?;-)

For whatever reason Etho, my oldest memory of watching you was you placing the ice for the guardian farm in this episode. I think this episode was just coming out and I got recommended to watch it. Since then you've been my all time favorite entertainer, not even just RU-vidr, above anything else in my life. Even if you don't read this, or does anyone at all, I'll know it's here as a commemoration to the beginning of a great part of my life. Thank you!

Ok Etho, let me level with you. I speak for everyone hear when I say, we love all the videos you put out. But you really need to play some Mindcrack server, it's new and we want to see more of it. I hope we get to see a new server video soon.

Etho, if you wanted to know you only take "thorns" damage when the guardians thorns are extended, when they are retracted you can attack them without you taking thorns damage.

Hey Etho you should take a Guardian and make something like a Shark Tank with it!

Etho, if you replace the cows in your farm you should change the cow pixel art to a mooshroom. If you replace only half of the cows, then you should cut the cow face in half and make the half you took away into half of a mooshroom face. Half half half.

My sister tried the new snapshot with the performance improvements and went from 15-20fps to 6-7fps

Hey Etho You actually dont need to light up caves because in the new snapshot minecraft only loads what you see, so since you dont see the caves from the surface mobs wont spawn in it, this is what is giving such an fps boost to peoples game hopes this helps (;

I know a lot of people are wanting more mindcrack episodes but its tough juggling four different series. I love all four of his series, his LP, Mindcrack, Crackpack and Terra Craft. As long as he posts a episode in any of these series I am happy. They are all amazing! Inspiration is a funny thing and when it hits you roll with it. Maybe it hasn't hit yet for him on mindcrack but when it does, a fleet of mindcrack episodes will follow! Great video Etho!

Etho, you should make an aquarium to keep some guardians in, along with ASDJKE. Or even better with the new depth strider enchant, a petting aquarium.

Etho you should make it so that the guardians get transported to that pond thing you have by your lava creeper face so that when you walk by you will see them all swimming around and it will be funny to watch them get hit by snowballs And as always keep up the amazing work :)

just saying etho, the new snapshot 14w30b with the banners and mob heads has HUGE performance updates. the multi-threading boosted my 15-20 fps super slow laptop up to at least a smooth 30-40 fps. and they fixed the ghost block thing.

Etho, You should have pet guardians stuck in a one block high space with glass on top and ice on the bottom. (Do mobs get the speed boost from ice?) It could make a cool floor somewhere!

Dirt, Sand, and Gravel aren't renawable :P technically. They are abundant in an infinite world, but, say, a finite world like the Mindcrack server atm? heh.

Etho, your LP is like a drug to me. I'm so stoked for the next episode as I always am, but then there's always the depressing part when the video ends and you suddenly get an existential crisis like "well .... what do I do now?"

Etho, for future reference, The Elder Guardians can be found at the very top, and along the outer/bottom edge of the pyramid part of the temple

you should make a way to release them all on to land and have them flop all around XD

the summon ritual actually works... Method: Lay down a 5x5 grid of Redstone dust. Add power gradually from the east side, kill 10 bats and throw a single food item for the relevant series, eg. Steak for LP, Potato for Mindcrack, or a Carrot for Crackpack. Listen to Cat (Record) until episode is uploaded.

I forgot Mending wasn't added yet so when he said "let's go repair our shovel" I was expecting him to go to the ender ender or something. then he pulled out the anvil and combined a new shovel and I was like "what? OH" haha. can't wait to see the game evolve. I only got into Minecraft right around when the 1.14 update came so I've got no clue about the historical versions.

Hey, Etho! You've probably already thought of this but as long as your farm will spawn Guardians it will probably make an effective squid farm for getting ink for the dark prismarine. Great episode, and keep up the awesome work!

Sectioning the areas off into 5x5 areas and placing the sponges with two levels of water source blocks above them seemed to work best for me.

Take care when you build the farm itself. It may be easier to have them spawn in high, short down-flowing water streams and stagger them about so they fall to the bottom, then have the bottom with flowing water to the central point to do whatever with. I'm pretty sure they'll still spawn in high enough quantities for what you're planning, but having a solid area of nothing but water: you can't control where they decide to go.

Hey Etho, I just wanted to say thank you so much for making your vids. I've had an awful day (finding out my dog is dying tomorrow) and have been sad all day and your video really cheered me up so I wanna say thank you for doing what you do! :)

@ConfiscatedUnderwear the human eye doesn't have an equivalent refresh rate, but we do use 60fps because that's the refresh rate of most displays these days so any more or less could cause graphical artifacts

As is, I have gotten over 500 FPS in MC, I can't imagine my FPS with the new snapshot!

With the next update you may not need to light up the caves: caves don't render unless in sight!!! It might be more important to light the surface and just the very beginning of caves. Also, maybe caves that intersect with the farm, not exactly sure how that works.

Don't fill it up with water. Just cover the uppermost layers with it (suspended by signs or something). The will spawn only in water, so they will spawn up there and fall down...

If you look closely, the default prismarine blocks and sea lanterns are animated. The Sea Lanterns have small waves that emanate from their center and the Prismarine very slowly changes colors in a few small patches.

I was reading through the comments and seen people saying give up the singleplayer LP never do that etho I love it keep it up

Lol Etho, you kinda killed that second elder guardian in the style of Dishonored. Ender pearl was like the blink ability and then the sword is like the blade he has in Dishonored. I like the style hehe. Keep up the great videos man!

Etho, when you split the cow whhhhhheat farm up, change the cow face to half mooshroom. Love the videos and keep it up

The latest snapshot, which I hope you'll be playing on by your next Etho Plays Minecraft video, does wonders to performance! Like my PC isnt even a gaming rig and I was able to record Minecraft at the standard youtube 30 fps, in a Jungle Biome no less!

When you want to explore one of this temple, just rush the 3 bosses. I did it on a Uhc server and it's the best strategy, you don't need any regeneration or healing potion

Etho, I strongly suggest that when you enter the sponge room, block the entrance with a block(so guardians don't come in and give you mining fatigue) and drink a milk and mine all the sponges and drink the potions you've had before drinking the milk and get out :D

EthosLab you only get "thorns" when attacking the gaurdians while they have their spikes out. When they are tucked in, you do not get "thorns".

FARM : Etho a good way to make a farm would be to use signs holding one water block and all across the hole. then let them fall to take damage in to a non water room and kill them that way or make the room like you did the blaze farm. how they all come in to one aria and kill them that way however i have not tested it because i have lap top and it cant run snapshot to well at the moment so its just an idea :D you might could test it in creative

Hey Etho, next time you find a water temple, you should keep an elder guardian as pet in an Aquarium near your mancave. Might need some building and TNT to get it there, though.

On the whole rare block thing: i like it when its a utility thing and not a decorative thing. I dont mind sponges being rare since why would you want them other than water removal - but the stuff like cracked stone bricks or mossy blocks being rare pissed me off. they add so much detail, and are so hard to get. So glad theyre finally making them craftable.

Hey Etho! I love watching your videos, and you are such an amazing person! I was watching back some special episodes such as your one million subscriber caving Q and A, and you talked about a topic many MANY people hype about. Facecam. You talked about how you didnt have anything against doing a facecam, but just weren't set up to do one. You also said you needed to look for a new house, but that was over a year ago. I might have missed it, but I dont think you did end up moving. You are over 1.5 million subscribers now, and lots of people really want to meet you in person at a place such as Minecon or PAX. Do you ever plan on going to Minecon or a convention, or possibly doing a facecam in the future? Im not sure what to think anymore. Hey Etho, I've been subscribed to you for about 5 months, and have finally caught up with your entire let'ts play from episode 1 to now, so now I feel like I can comment on your videos lol. :D I love the way you do your series and it has caused me to unsubscribe from all the yogs, of which I was getting a little tired of already lol, and going for the mindcrackers instead :) So thank you for making awesome videos and making my day :)

It would be great if you could make sponges dry by crafting it with a bucket and get a water bucket and a dry sponge, like you squeezed out the sponge into the water. It makes sense and is really useful for multiple reasons

If you want to have fun with the farm you should gather lots of the guardians in one spot and make a huge death ray!!

Etho, maybe If you incorporate slimeblocks into the water temple farm it might add a fun and creative aspect to a more simple build, love your videos, keep doing what your doing

Oh ya and I think you should have a way to get to the temple easier, like an underwater canal with stained glass so you can look out while you ride down in a boat. Hope that made sense to you.
