Etho Plays Minecraft - Episode 380: Building For Days 

"Hey guys! Grab your snacks, today on episode 567464252 we will be building a house out of diamond blocks, for the windows were going to use beacons. This house will stand from bedrock, to the skylimit taking up atleast 81 chucks. I know guys, it is not going to be as big as our legendary gold house over in the plains, but don't worry this house is going to be built mushroom boime. It will not take that long, but these side project are what keep me going." -Etho

I like the water in the library, It looks great, however i feel it isn't quite suitable for the library theme. Book n water don't mix :-P

I like how Etho uses "poppy farm" as a euphemism for his "illegal" iron farm. In real life you'd need a euphemism for your poppy farm!

I think polished andesite would compliment the other colors of the library very well and would look great for the window frames.

It's funny how producing for RU-vid might have shaped Etho's playstyle. He focuses on things that have larger payoff in terms of camera time. That is, he doesn't grind so much for resources when he doesn't need to. I try to have around a chest of quartz on reserve, just so I don't run out. Also, he splits projects up so that the episodes can be varied, instead of just focusing one down. If I don't do something all in one, or a few sessions of Minecraft, or stop to work on something else, it doesn't get done. Etho can hop from project to project and actually gets most of them done. Also, Etho starts with interior, then moves to exterior, which is a much smarter strategy than my starting with exterior. But it's also better for RU-vid, because it would be less fun to see the redstone or meat of the project after already having seen what it's going to look like when it's done.

It moisturizes the books. Thank goodness, I don't want my pages to get all dried out.

I absolutely love the building episodes, I love watching the process and ideas you make on the spot. Watching you build and all the different ways you build teach me so many things and how/where to put things! I honestly think you should do more building, but that's just my opinion.

Etho i have some ideas for the library. 1.it would be cool to have a TREE OF KNOWLEDGE in front of the enchantment table 2.if u put torches under carpet that's on the wall the smoke effect goes through the carpet and it looks good at a path like which hours to the e.table 3.u could try wool for the window (but something green) 4.as more natural stuff like the water 5.where you go up the stairs put tables in those little corners to reed and ladders to go up (like in films where the shelfs are that high you can reach the top) You are the best builder!! :)

Love the big red and green stained glass windows with the colored clay borders in the library. Coolness of epic proportions? Goatsex!

You should have built the entire library underwater, then all the books would have been hydrated for reduced paper cuts.

Etho i don't think you should put an elder guardian in the library. I think it would be better to have something like a charged creeper or the dragon egg on a pedestal. its your library, so so whatever you want, i just feel like it would ruin the feel of the place.

I like the Stone brick for the windows, because it gives a definitive clue to the viewer, spatially, as to where they are.It also helps denote an strong exterior structure and breaks up the Use of wood. Having the stone brick window frames would make the whole design on the inside look less "one note". Also it helps gives you more options for the exteriror shell too look large, and impressive to reflect the size of the build. #IMHO

You asked if we liked all this building. I love it. I originally started watching because of the redstone/technical aspects but enjoy watching the building as it inspires me.

I don't care if it's building or mining or redstone episode. If etho posted it I watch it.

Maybe you could use Obsidian for your window frame with purple window panes to give your library an other worldly theme? If not, you could try Nether Bricks since they have a Stone Brick-like texture on them and a darker shade of red you were looking for in the Red Clay blocks. I'm not sure if this would look good but you could try using Jungle Wood blocks in certain places and plant Cocoa Beans on them, then once the gourds are fully grown you could hide Glowstone underneath the carpet which would make the gourds look like dimly lit lanterns.

I REALLY like your new library! It's my favorite build on your LP. Can't wait to see you build more on it. I personally don't see a problem in you building all your episodes away. For me that's the best thing about Minecraft. Keep up the good work Etho!

I like the building episodes, you shouldn't worry much about them. Also, for the windows, I personally would prefer the old library style (white and cyan), but in this new setup I don't think it'd work well. Also, you should DEFINITELY make secret passages inside the library, maybe having a portal or tunnel under it to connect you to somewhere else, perhaps? Also, it'd be awesome if you did tables and chairs, so it looked like a proper library, but maybe you won't have enough space... A personal suggestion: maybe add some redstone decoration, like automatic lamps and moving bookshelves when you walk in? Just an idea! Keep up the good work!

I love the building episodes. To me, the best part of survival is the deep end game. You get to play around with building, but you still have some work, like collecting the resources. It still makes a challenge. I think that the stone brick on the library is the best bet. Stone brick goes along with spruce wood very well. Why it didn't look good was because the green glass panes didn't look good with the stone brick. I think if you used light gray or even clear panes it would look a lot better. Maybe play around with some other colors. Over all, great episode and I look forward to seeing more building. That is what makes this series so good.

Etho, I have solved your problem. Use granite for the library! It's neutral, has texture, and doesn't grab attention.

Always use fortune 3 on quartz etho! (And everyone else) itsaves even more inventory soace then silk touch, because you can craft them in to blocks on the go! It also saves time because tou don't have to build and remine all the quartz you have. And it also savedurabillity! There are only benefits. P.s don't comment saying silk touch gives you more inventory space because that is not true and you haven't rrad my comment. Greetings from holland!

don't put the guardian!!! because library is all about quiet, but the guardian are bouncing all around the place a produce a lot of noise, so don't put the guardian in to the library

I have actually done a LOT of testing on creeper farms. I made one to be used with a mob farm, and because it didn't seem to work, I decided to test some more. I have tested the exact same creeper farm in both 1.8(snapshot back then) and 1.7.10, and it worked flawlessly in 1.7.10, but it didn't work in the snapshot basically at all. I think I got around 1 in the snapshot when I got 20 in 1.7.10. I have tested for I think 10-20 hours in total using different designs, and almost every time it worked like I expected in 1.7, but didn't work in the snapshot. I still have all the world files which I can show you. When I tested with simply a lot of creepers with NoAI in a large field it did work, but I was too annoyed by it to find out what exactly was causing it. I had also looked into the code a lot, but I couldn't find any meaningful changes from 1.7 to that snapshot. I tried to increase the amount of lightning bolts per minute, but I couldn't get it to work in the snapshot because the code that handles that is in a large file which means it's harder to change. I did manage to change it in 1.7 (easily), but since the issue is in 1.8 that isn't of too much use. If anyone would like some more info, just shoot me a message, I'd be happy to explain what does and doesn't work (as far as I have been able to test). Since testing each change takes hours to get a meaningful result I'm not planning on doing too much more testing unless I think I have found the issue.

Etho, I think the block you should use for around the windows is your most hated block: Granite! Either normal or polished. The pinkish colour with red carpet and white window panes would really come together to make something nice to look at, I think. Hope it works out.

I think creeper farms will work better if you build them surrounded by biomes where lightning doesn't strike. I haven't tested it but it might since lightning cant strike anywhere else but your platform then. Also for the windows in the liberary you forgot your own rule! If you don't know what to put somewhere just put bookshelves there :)

The nexus is looking awesome! Don't change how it looks, and if you want to change something. Keep it a small change!

You probably don't even need a creeper farm. Remember you once found a charged creeper during a storm? Just look for them at an exposed area and you'll get your hands on one pretty quick. And one head is all you need, as you can copy banners. You just need a setup to deal with the creeper once you have one. The one BTC had made on Mindcrack should work just fine.

Etho is lucky, he doesnt have haters aloot like other youtubers over 1m subs. He is special.

Usually when I think of who is good at redstone, I think of you and Sethbling. Then I think about it more and come to the conclusion that you are better at survival redstone, and Seth is better at command blocks. Would you say this is about accurate? What are your thoughts?

I have seen Seth's and BTC's videos when they got their creeper head in that farm, so yeah it is a great idea, I am pretty sure you don't need the named creepers in the hole though, no one got a creeper head from that, you just need the trapping machine in a big open area.

Hey Etho, I'm really enjoying these building episodes, you managed to get my inspiration flowing again :D Anyways, about the window frame, I think a suitable block would be one of the brown coloured stained clay blocks, such as Black, Grey or Brown. I've found these blocks work almost perfectly with the palette your currently using.Also, I know you spoke of how difficult getting hold of a charged creeper is, but I think having a charged creeper on display would be a nice addition. Talking of adding mobs, it's starting to become almost a museum, but I don't think that's so much of a bad thing, maybe display some important or collectible items in your world there? I don't know, Its a lot of ideas all at once, but that's what happens when the inspiration starts flowing again :D Thanks for another great video, keep 'em coming.

I got one (my charged creeper farm) from going afk in a creative world for about 24 hours, but never got one when I built it in my single player world. they do work, but they just take a LONG time and have a low chance.

What about bricks for the window frames? It has a more neutral red colour a d has some texture!

I got attacked by an entire colony of bees today when i was in a trip trough a forest... Im as pale as a cloud lol. 3 bees got their sting on me, but luckily bees dont hurt as wasps so im ok. Anyways I dont wantbto go in a firest trip *NEVER* again. Just sharing my traumatizong story. Thanks for the vid btw, my favorite series just in time.

I'm not sure if creeper farms work, but what you could do is have a bunch of named creepers waiting in an open space like your plains biome, so when it is a thunderstorm and you get a charged creeper you can just drop him in and get a whole bunch of creeper heads. Maybe build a device like BTC's on MindCrack.

That's the thing I hate about quartz - it's a rip off. You need 4 stacks of it just to get a stack of blocks. With it being such a pain in the butt to get, it should go farther.

Also, this is a somewhat invasive question? Do you have a girlfriend/boyfriend (I don't discriminate!). You seem like such a super chill and nice dude and I just see it impossible for you to not have someone dating you! :P
