Yeah, I thought of a solution that wouldn't require TOO much effort to implement. Each station already has a button that sends the carts on to the next one. Create a secondary track that runs the entire circuit, and wire the "send" mechanism at each station to a detector rail on that track instead of the button. Whenever a cart passes by a station on the secondary track, it sends the storage carts (if they're there) to the next one. Then, at each station, replace the "send" button with a "call" button. This button would send a cart along the secondary track, triggering all the "send" mechanisms (now wired to detector rails) along the way. No matter where the carts are along the line, they'll keep getting sent forward -- until the "request" cart gets back to the station you're at and gets diverted back into the empty bay you sent it from instead of triggering another "send". The calling cart would pass by at speed and be long gone before the storage carts are all sent out. You don't want it to beat them to the next station, since it's supposed to be there after they are and send them on to the next. So maybe each station has a receiving bay where the cart always arrives. The receiving bay brings in the new cart from behind, kicks out the one in front (if it's there), and then moves the rear cart into the forward position. The forward cart would trigger the "send" mechanism on its way out, wait until they're all on their way (there's already something to detect this, right? So it stops trying to send them once it's emptied out?) and then follow along behind them. When it gets back to where you are, it arrives in the empty bay, nothing gets kicked out the front, so the storage carts don't get sent away, and then the cart gets moved back into position for the next time a request comes through.

I disagree. Please read all of this comment: Perhaps the hopper "was"covered, although @30:46 when Etho breaks the glass next to that space, one can clearly see there is no glass above the hopper. Either way, the hopper above that space is a real issue since the shulker has a random trajectory when pushed by the piston head. Sometimes the shulker item will make it into the hopper, but most times it stays in that space, or lands on top of the dispenser or glass (@30:39). A full collision hitbox above the piston head is required to push the item to the space in front of it. Making a simple test mock up proves this.

bubble streams can move minecarts vertically for sure. Never tried it with hopper / storage minecarts though. Shouldnt be an issue :D

maybe toy with the idea of converting your single player into a server and share with Doc n Bdubs... yup I know Bdubs is mainly streaming these days but would love to see Etho, Bdubs and Doc working together again. kinda reminds me of three naughty shoolboys messing around at the back of class

Has he not always just used whatever is default? The new ones are the new default. I believe his reasoning is so that everyone watching his video knows what's going on. Imagine new players coming to the game after the texture update and seeing old textures in his video.

I mean, you made a mistake in the 2.0 redstone tutorial video anyway (hopperchain cannot go over the redstone block), so a 2.5 video could rectify that, too.
