I've been slowly grinding out this project for over a month! Today we finish gathering up the supplies and get working on the monotonous innards of our new Endless Storage room idea. As we build, I ramble on about auto-crafting coming to Minecraft.

Let's hope it won't have to update the second it releases. I feel like Minecraft versions have been updated too often (compared to its first heyday of ~1.4-1.7) that modders just don't get enough time to code and create before another sea change happens and they lose a bit more of their soul

I used to, and sometimes still do lol, follow redstone builds block by block. One of the most enjoyable things is when I actually understand what's happening and how. To the point where I told myself a little while ago, "hmm I'm going to make my own (insert farm here)" so much trial and error but omg when it works WOW that triumphant feeling! This is in response to your conversation about the auto crafters. 😊

This might be one of the best etho lp episodes of all time, at least in context. He covered a CRAZY amount of work and playtime, while still being technical and creative in his unique way. He kept it super entertaining too. There's definitely something super impressive and satisfying about etho putting this kind of video out right now. With decked out, secret life AND vault hunters going on he has to have been SWAMPED, but he's still finding time to do what he loves. It also feels like a great triumphant return (and even a step up) with his high labor projects after the outside life trouble he encountered earlier this year. Thanks for this great video etho! It's always a huge pleasure not only to watch you but to see you enjoy playing and working!
@Natibe_
@Natibe_ 5 месяцев назад
It’s a great video but I hope it doesn’t set a standard for him. The ‘small’ scale stuff he does is really entertaining as well, and so is the little conversations he has while he does them. Condensing all that down this much all the time would really lower his output and it’s not really worth the potential of a slight increase in quality. At most I’d say one of these big vids interspersed with ten or more smaller project vids to get variety would be ideal. This should be a special thing, not a standard.

11:05 There's actually a reliable way to get blocks like these back, 100% of the time. All you need to do is have an opaque block in your off hand and place it where the block you want to get back is as soon as you remove it. It glitches out and jumps to the surface because of the blocks' tendency to jump up instead of down when broken, so all you're doing is removing their capability to fall down.
@ender0998
@ender0998 5 месяцев назад
A more clunky way is to place a non full block (preferably a trapdoor) adjacent to the shulker box, then break the box.
@frostbaka
@frostbaka 5 месяцев назад
alternatively, you can place a trapdoor on the bottom side of the block you're attempting to break, then place another trapdoor above the first one. open the top one, stand in it, and close it again. you'll be forced into a crawl spot, where you can easily mine the block and grab it before it falls just by being in the crawl space. i like your method though! I'll have to try it sometime
@gregb7881
@gregb7881 5 месяцев назад
...or just stand on the shulker then mine it. You'll fall into the shulker item and then are free to fly back up.
@Limbless
@Limbless 5 месяцев назад
or just open the shulker and move the items hahaha
@wibiz9657
@wibiz9657 5 месяцев назад
@@gregb7881 This wont work reliably. Items have frames where they can't be picked up, so if you were just standing on it you would actually fall faster than you can pick it up, and due to the random direction the shulker box shoots when broken it causes it to start falling at a different time each time. The way to make this reliable is to jump the second the shulker box is broken so you're bound to fall on it and pick it up.

I liked your point on individuality while discussing the autocrafter. I think there's a lot of truth in what you had to say concerning the uniqueness that can be achieved through any Minecraft player's need for something that the autocrafter can help with. One of the reasons I'm inspired by your work, Etho, is because the projects you make are the best for your own needs. Innovation and uniqueness is what makes things interesting, not simply having the same project be block for block as others. I've learned that it does me much better to create my own solutions for things I want to solve in the game, such as specific resource farms. Not only is making your own design for a farm more satisfying, it creates a story around everything you build. It's a lesson many of us should have learned a long time ago, for instance the first time we turned cheats on in a video game to find that the game was no longer satisfying when it wasn't a challenge anymore. I can only imagine that your approach of uniqueness to the things you do in Minecraft are the only reason it's remained your favorite game, and a game you can still play after more than 13 years. I think you can help players use the autocrafter to suit their individuality by building some integrated into various projects across the spectrum of Minecraft activities. I think the trick will be to create the automatic resource farms needed for the item being crafted at the build location, or at least being able to automatically transport the items needed from a loaded farm, which will certainly a tall challenge. Sure, autocrafters will be great to put into farms to compact resources down into more manageable loads, like attaching one to an iron farm so that you can store iron blocks instead of ingots. But I think the real goal here is to be able to use the farm to support a build that's right there, rather than using an autocrafter elsewhere and having to manually stock its input with resources from a farm that's built somewhere else. At that point, the autocrafter adds little value as it's still necessary to spend time stocking, crafting the resources manually and simply stocked the crafted item is simpler. What I'm visualizing is something like an autocrafter making and dispensing items automatically when a player enters a build. For instance, delivering a stack of fireworks to the player at the entrance of an elytra flight course, a stone sword and iron armor inside a PvP arena, or a minecart track that produces its own minecarts. Unfortunately, since a lot of items can only be farmed in certain places, it's going to be unrealistic to assume many people will try something like it, especially with complex recipes that require some mob or block drops. So I guess the key will be to start small and expand once we've learned what we want. Ultimately, I think this could lead to to a new way of playing survival--rather than build one large resource farm, such as bamboo, that serves the entire world's needs; it will be a lot more fluid to build several bamboo farms that supply wood to autocrafters in different areas for various projects. It will surely be more work, but cutting down on transportation time will be a huge bonus and something that I think may help the constant inventory problems. Because of this, depending on a large central storage system may not be as needed. Storage is only a means of holding onto items for further use, potentially at a different location. If every project site supplies its own materials needed to operate, storage won't be required anymore. This is how I see autocrafters creating individuality in worlds.

Y'know, Etho, it's been a whole lotta fun watching you get out of your comfort zone with all the side series you've been doing. DO2 (Iyes, I am separating that out from HC haha)/SL/VH, but let me tell you - there's *nothing* like watching you thrive in your element - vanilla redstone, in your vanilla LP world, where you have the skill & ability to lower the entrance level requirements for everyone alike to be able to understand and appreciate redstone. I felt that when you said you were happy that the Autocrafter may get more non-redstone players into redstone (because it will catalyze creativity rather than block by block tutorials which is lowers creativity in both builders and redstoners, as you illustrated). That's how I feel with the Vault Hunters modpack, to be honest. I have been perfectly content to play vanilla for myself after all these years and watch others, especially you, of course, tackle grindy modpacks I'd never take on myself. But with Iskall's approach to creating a modpack with VH, he has made modded VERY accessible to new players, especially with locking big mods behind research/expertise points. VH is the *only* modpack I have ever downloaded and played. And with the continual updates/patches, it has gotten so much better from the first edition to the 3rd edition and even update 10 of the 3rd edition to now is its peak so far. Thank you for explaining what happened with your modded series. It makes absolute sense that you've lost interest; you shouldn't feel bad about that. I still loved those episodes, you created something special. :)

Etho, I've been working on a crafter network lately, and I started with the same hopper minecart idea you presented. It runs into a problem where, if the recipe contains multiple of a single item, those items will stack together in the hopper cart rather than filling separate spaces. I.E when you craft a piston, instead of slots 1-3 having planks, 4 having cobble, 5 having iron, 6-7 having cobble, 8 having redstone, 9 having cobble, you'll have slot 1 with 3 planks, slot 2 with 4 cobble, slot 3 with iron, slot 4 with redstone. My solution was to use SethBling's infinite density storage room (based on Minecart chests) to serve as a database of recipes, unpack the recipe from the cart, have the system dispense those items, repack the cart, and return it to storage. It's not a perfect solution, but it does the job.

DEWE - drop everything, watch etho. this man is keeping us well fed. I hope this means everything got prepared for winter without a problem, and that the property liquidation went well. I've had a lot of experience talking to people who are going through difficult times dealing with their parent's estates; it's an awful thing to have to do when you're still processing the loss. God bless big E and his family.

I dislike watching youtubers that show that they built something "in survival" but it doesn't feel true. I love that you put the clips in of you actually putting the effort into creating every little thing that you needed for this project because it really shows the effort and planning. I love the question you pose about following a tutorial online because I have followed many redstone tutorials to achieve certain things I wanted. Creating something that is your own idea through learning game mechanics is really what this game is about.

You've got to appreciate how wholly unique Etho's LP series is. Not only has this man regularly been designing & building massive projects that can change how one thinks about the game, but he balances this with a multitude of other projects & series at the same time AND still manages to make it not only entertaining, but informative & relatable as well. Kudos E-man, you've done it again!

When I played Minecraft multiplayer, I always would build a cake factory with auto farms for all ingredients. I took a bit of time in creative and built a (almost, milk is the only one unable to be automated) fully automated cake and pumpkin pie factory. It was a bit tricky, because for reasons I had to do it in Bedrock Edition, and in there, hoppers are kind of random, so I had to wire a system to control the timing of the hoppers leading to the crafter.

Late comment is probably invisible, and any number of people likely said something similar, but ... I'm astonished at how quickly this episode seemed to fly by, despite the grindiness of the very large and repetitive build. When Etho comments how long the episode is getting, I was genuinely surprised to find out that not only had I been watching nearly a half hour, but it was almost over!

I agree completely with the sentiment of the crafter. I've played around with it a bit and I think it's easy to see that there are a ton of ways to auto craft. If you look up on youtube a tutorial for any auto crafter (many exist already) you'll see that most have different designs / different strategies to auto craft an item. I saw cubehamster made a video on a pumpkin pie machine so before I watched it I made my own. We went about it in completely different ways and that was really cool to see. I feel like minecraft has that issue with some aspects of the game where there really is one good way to do things (eg. villager trading halls for specific enchantments, as you pointed out the item sorter, mending for all tools where mending is only mutually exclusive with one enchantment (infinity)) so it's really nice to see the crafter, which adds a completely new element to the game, add lots of diversity.

Regarding your thoughts on modded minecraft, I think a lot of progression / late-game issues you bring up are solved by playing a modpack! I know you started Enigmatica 2 Expert with Iskall, and this is indeed a good pack, but one I would recommend you look into is Divine Journey 2. It is a very long and difficult pack, but it is very polished and has received many balance / quality of life updates. I think you could really enjoy it (and so would we by watching you haha)!
@seshpenguin
@seshpenguin 5 месяцев назад
Adding on to that, doing modpacks multiplayer I think works really well too (like the SkyFactory series with pause and beef), since in a lot of cases modpacks are closer adventure maps in that they aren't necessarily going to be a long lived series like the LP, but rather something you embark on and enjoy, and then conclude until the next wave of mods and packs come out.

Omg a famous etho cut right off the bat! I've Been watching through the whole let's play for a few months now, currently around episode 380ish. I've been watching the new episodes too and I felt like there was a big change in the style of content from the episodes in the 300 range and recent ones, but this one feels like a snap back to mid series. The montage with thoughts on the crafter felt like one of the old rare caving episodes where etho would just cave and tall about whatever, like the 1 million subscriber special. I was getting worried he was losing interest or drive in this world or maybe video making, but seeing how much he has done since the last episode, on top of starting 2 other series and hours of decked out content shows the complete opposite of that. This episode, the dedication to this world, the conversation about the new crafter, how much ethos creativity in regards to Redstone contraptions and video documenting/editing has grown over the life is not only a true inspiration, but it is a quintessential snapshot of the entire spirit of minecraft and artistic expression/discipline. I just wanted to say a very sincere thank you for all of the time that you've put in to this game, channel, series and community. It is so beautiful how somebody just filming themselves have fun playing a game can create such an impact on so many people. All that being said, GO INTERVIEW ON THE IMP AND SKIZZ PODCAST WE WANT AN ETHO INTERVIEW!!!! Just video feed in f5 mode from your single player world rather than face cam, it would be hilarious and we all love hearing about your thoughts on minecraft as well as things from your personal life that you're comfortable getting into. Thanks for reading, have a good day

That storage needs a name! It kind of reminded me of the concept of the Global Seed Vault, in Norway, were humanity stores every single seed in the world. The vault is in the frozen tundras in the north, isolated, just like The End. And in your case, it stores every single item in the game! Maybe The End Vault? Just incredible project, excited to see how it develops!

Seeing what it takes to build this stuff makes you reevaluate the way you see these gamers. And hearing Etho’s perspective on how the autocrafter will impact Minecraft shows how much depth there really is to being a gamer. I think there are a lot of RU-vidrs just playing games, but there are others who are thinking about gaming in a much more in depth way, namely Etho. I suppose that’s the case in most careers, there are those who are very engaged and those that are just getting a paycheck. Etho, I appreciate the insightful perspective.

I still play Minecraft myself, started a world years ago and I would mostly classify as a builder, yet over the years I have tackled a few redstone projects and its certainly rewarding figuring out how to make something work, or make it compact, but it really isn't my first love when it comes to the game, I've done exactly as you describe and recreated farms from a RU-vid video and although I completely get your point, that it isn't nearly as entertaining as creating it yourself, its still fun decorating a farm and making it fit into your world. What I am most excited about when the Crafter comes out, is not using it myself but seeing what other RU-vids do with it. Impressive video Etho, its nice seeing that you're still having a good time.
