Hi there, Ram owners. Today on your 2016 Ram 2500 we're gonna be installing Air Lift's LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Helper Springs with internal jounce bumpers for the rear axle. And this is what our air bags look like when they're installed. The airlift bags here are the 5,000 series, which means that they can help to support up to 5,000 pounds. Now, this doesn't increase the amount of weight that you can carry in your truck, just how much that these can assist supporting. And the support that they provide is very useful for restoring lost ride height, handling and breaking performance that you get from having your truck heavily loaded down.
'Cause when your truck's heavily loaded down in the back, when it's like this, it brings your front end up that changes the geometry of your tires. So you're not getting the same traction that you once had before. Reducing your handling. It's also reducing your brake quality 'cause you don't have the same contact of your tires to the road and the weight's not being distributed the way it was either due to the way your vehicle's angled. It also puts your headlights up towards the sky reducing your visibility of the road at night.
And by having bags on here, we can increase the pressure between our axle and our frame here to raise our vehicle back up and restore that lost ride height putting our tires on the front back down on the road, the way they're supposed to be, allowing the weight to distribute appropriately when breaking and bringing our headlights down onto the road once again. These bags have roll plates on each side to help increase their durability as you turn. They can help to reduce sway a little bit 'cause you get some support on each side and you can use these independently from one another. So if you have any uneven loads in the back, maybe for whatever reason you got a couple of really big items and one significantly heavier than the other. And it has to be positioned on either the passenger or driver's side.
You can put more air in one side than the other to balance that out. The air bags have internal jounce bumpers inside them. So even though we remove the factory jounce bumper, there's still one inside of here. So if the event we happen to bottom out our suspension, we've got that rubber support and they're just like we did from the factory. But we now we've got our air bag on top of that.
So it's kinda nice. We're not losing anything by putting our bags in place here. And I will say that once you put bags on here it does change the ride quality of your vehicle just a little bit. It can stiffen it up some when you got heavier loads but the very minimal effects it has in your ride quality is definitely worth the safety and handling you're gonna gain by having it in there and you're just gonna feel more comfortable driving. So while it may be slightly stiffer than you we're before, you're gonna have a lot more confidence driving so you're not gonna be all puckered up and scared and really grip in that wheel. So it can kinda make you more comfortable in that sense. Now that we've covered some of the features of our air bags, why don't you follow along with us and we'll show you how to get it installed. A great upgrade if you're looking to go further would be a compressor system that you can install in here as well. So that way you don't have to find a source to air up your air bags. You can just have it air up automatically using a remote here or a switch on your truck. We've got a lot available here at etrailer if you wanted to add those as well. We'll begin our installation here at the back of the vehicle. We're gonna remove our factory jounce bumper. You may notice that I've got a pole jack here in place at the back. The hitch here at the back is a great place for guys at home. If you're just doing this in your driveway you can put a floor jack underneath here. You do wanna make sure you chalk the front wheel 'cause you're gonna wanna be able to jack up the back here a little bit for later steps. So it's nice to have that there, but make sure those wheels are chalk 'cause if you lift the back up too high, the vehicle can roll. So now we're gonna remove our jounce bumper here with a 15 millimeter socket. It should be able to get your tool up in there with a swiveling and extension. And we'll just zip that out of there. There's one on the opposite side. In the same location, we're gonna come up and zip that one out as well. Might need a longer extension for the one over on this side. And we'll zip this one out and then we can just take our jounce bumper down. We're not going to be re-installin
