Philippines is slowly shifting it's course to Europe and usa so that when china sanctions Philippines can easily diverse Philippines economy without delay in that case Philippines will remain fastest economy in south east Asia with or without china... Very smart move and wise. Philippines is riches of minerals in Asia 90% of menirals production goes to china and Philippines bought a lot of products from china, European countries, usa and asean can supply Philippines so that Philippines won't rely on china trades.

Philippines mostly buy products in China-not actual trade. If Vietnam have their manufacturing or other asean countries and if Philippines find other countries to buy metal and other materials, they can leave China and trade with other countries instead
@jamesleeborgonia222

exactly! Philippines is more of investing to China because we buy(import) to China more than we sell to them(exports) so theres a less impact if we decouple to china

It is a source of pride that even foreigners have noticed the positive outcomes of BBM's initiatives. On the other hand, it is saddening that many of my fellow countrymen are angered by BBM's state visits and travels to various nations to attract investments and agreements.

The Philippines mainly export's raw minerals and materials with almost no value added value to China and imports cheaper, less durable goods from China. So superficially it looks like China is the top trading partner of the Philippines, but looking at the details, Manila is actually a lot more flexible when it comes to trade. After all, it wouldn't be able to stand up to China if it was more economically dependent on mainland China like the rest of ASEAN. This is actually a great opportunity for Taiwan-Philippine relations to upgrade. The Philippines can provide raw materials, cheaper labor and security ties and Taiwan can provide technology transfers, FDI and business opportunities. Military cooperation is especially a good opportunity, as Taiwan was able to create an indigenous submarine and the Philippines is looking to establish its own submarine fleet. This would be a game changer when it comes to cross straits relations.
@rhyanjill
@rhyanjill 2 месяца назад
Correct. There also needs to be talks about strategic transportation corridors from Taiwan to Cagayan in the event of the worst case scenario, not just for Filipinos but also Taiwanese people seeking asylum. In the worst case scenario, Taiwan should prepare for an escape route for their people, especially the tech professionals and their industry. We in the Philippines should also be prepared to accommodate a Taiwanese government in exile just like how India sheltered the Dalai Lama. This ironically is beneficial for the Philippines, in the worst case scenario. The point regarding submarine technology is also important when you consider that the Luzon strait historically has been a theater to some notable submarine warfare.

I agree but our country still recognize the One-China Policy as to not anger more the Mainland CCP. I also think we cannot established a more stronger military cooperation as this will go down to the fake narrative of CCP that we are the one who's a troublemaker to the Region.

And the Philippines suffers a trade deficit of nearly 20B USD in its trade with China as China puts many restrictions on the importation of products-including agricultural ones- while China is able to export all kinds of products to the Philippines. The should diversify its supply chain and stop non-essential Chinese products from entering the Philippines.

He alienated most countries like the US and EU countries with his foul language and human rights abuses. He even recently threatened to take over Mindanao and establish a separate country. He's so great, but only at destroying the Philippines from within and keeping power by trying to establish the Duterte dynasty.
