I tried to download the game but there where to many unique heroes to choose from so I got anxiety and will never play it again.

What about portuguese Colonisers taking the kilwa coins to australia, then their colony gers destroyed as we know that the brits discovered it

@@emperoruniversalis9773 well... The English and Portugal were allies since the 14th century and Australia wasn't the rich new world that America was. What was Australia used for by the English? It was a prison, nothing really worth fighting for at the time especially not against your allies. The coins probably traveled to China and Indonesia before arriving in Australia without the involvement of the europeans. Also this is a big if since we don't really know the full history behind these coins and what brought them 10k kilometers away from Africa.

I'll tell you what, I'd feel a lot better with some good full plate and a longsword/shield combo going up against a samurai than to have to face off against it as that samurai. The Japanese probably had more of a warrior culture going for it, and there's something to be said about a guy who would rather unalive himself than lose a battle, but I just don't think it's a match for quality European steel. Knights into Japan would be a pain-filled campaign though. 🤣 Just getting there in the first place would be awful.

@@glitchxero4687 As I observe this wonderfully fruitful discussion (so I'll also add a little to the mill) It's been a few years since I've seen a historical battle between samurai and vikings on TV. I admire both the samurai and the vikings, though culturally I'm closer to the vikings, while the samurai are inspiring because of their warrior culture. (bushido codex) I remember being pissed when they said the vikings won. Dude, if it was one-on-one, of course the Vikings would win. (physique, skilled warriors) BUT, they dealt with the samurai, including their complete armor and equipment by the second half of the 19th century, including the rifles and cannons the samurai acquired from the Portuguese. It is even said that when the Portuguese landed on Tanegashima Island, they showed off their weapons. They weren't particularly accurate otherwise. Same with the mortars. Within ten years, there were guns in every manor in Japan. It was such a change. So about the duel. If they'd played it with rifles, the Vikings could have slipped. Even the samurai found that out. No longer were they "honorable" 1v1 duels. Instead, the unborn ashigaru stepped in, basically disguised peasants with a little training. And with a volley from their rifles, they ended more than one battle. After the unification of Japan, it closed itself off from the world. For two hundred and fifty long years. This allowed our fairly recent ancestors to experience their culture as well.

Any conversation of knight vs samurai is bound to be rife with racism and ignorance, as well as reliance on cultural stereotypes over any practical and historical military knowledge. Glitch Xero's comment is already a small preview to all the misconceptions that would come from that discussion.

Kilwa has the better starting position thanks to the Fall of Zimbabwe event chain, but in the long run, Mutapa/Zimbabwe is the stronger nation with that lovely mission that gives you basically 0 inflation from gold mines. So easy to get a world-class economy going, and from there you just snowball out of control.

I got fairly lucky in my Mutapa campaign. Within the first 5 years of the game, I had just finished a war with the minors to the north when Kilwa declared on me. I knew I had to do something right then or they'd become a real problem, so I merc'd up heavily thanks to the gobs of Mutapan gold and won the war. Left them with nothing but Zanzibar at the end (and I would've taken that too, but didn't have enough war score.) Good luck with your campaign!

Controlled Gold Mining also gives 5% All Power Costs, which makes everything that uses monarch points more expensive, and takes away 10% of your gold income. Most people don't find the cost worth it, compared to dealing with inflation.

Kilwa is my favorite nation to play in the game, typically if you're following their mission tree, it's best to start with Exploration then Expansion then Quantity (You will need manpower to keep expanding especially in the colonial regions) then you CAN take religious but I usually just lean into trade and you end up with enough money that you can stomp down any revolt while you brute force convert all of Africa south of the Sahel.

@@donttellnonna Gotcha, so there are a lot of exploration related missions. There is also Manpower with Inno idea, right? I'm thinking I would go Explo, either quantity or Inno, and then religious

@@SimplifiedFinanceSiFi If you hover your mouse to production dev and read the tooltip, it states the depletion chance of the gold mine :D

@@kesorangutan6170 thats what i mean, it can also deplete at 4, 6, 8 or 12 dev, so why go up to 10 and why stop there. does 10 have the best chance/risk ratio?

Wait untill you hear the AI also doesn't get call for peace, but if you're in a war that your ally declared and they refuse to peace out you still do.

It also feels like this is not at all how Kilwa is "supposed" to be played. Between it's national ideas, having 100% port provinces, and starting with the eastern plutocracy gov, this is clearly more optimal for a tall naval-based trade empire playstyle than this blobbing crap we've seen a million times.

@@victorconway444 Playing tall is significantly more boring to watch especially in an easy area like Kilwa. Playing tall as Lubeck or Riga is significantly more engaging and harder than doing it as Kilwa.

His goals were to defeat two specific nations with the one he was playing, do so in an entertaining way to make a video, and accomplish the run quickly to save his own time. He understood his objectives and achieved them all instead of messing around in southern Asia for decades/centuries in order to produce a boring, if crushing, victory. Best playstyle.
