Eufy Pan Tilt 2K Camera geni.us/HKGEufyPanTilt
If you're interested in adding some new devices to your smarthome, please consider using my Amazon.com show as a starting point
www.amazon.com/shop/netmanchris
The Eufy Pan Tilt camera is, at least currently, the ONLY pan-tilt camera that supports Homekit Secure video and at the price point, it's going to be very attractive to a lot of people. But there are some things you should know about this camera before clicking that Buy-It-Now button.
The Eufy Pan Tilt is listed as a camera that has a TON of capabilities including pet detection, motion zones, facial recognition, RTSP streams, and more. All this is true of course as long as you're not using the camera in Homekit mode.
As soon as you connect this to your Homekit home, the majority of those features go away. We should be getting back facial recognition and motion zones once iOS14 is released, but until then, it's something that you should definitely consider if you're looking at picking up one for you smart home.
The other thing to be aware of is that the Eufy cam MUST be connected to the Eufy Security app before you can add it to your Apple HomeKit home. For those of you who more concerned about your privacy, this might be a deal breaker and instead might point you towards the Logitech Circle View or the Eve Camera which are both Homekit only cameras which have no other cloud connectivity at all.
The Eufy Pan/Tilt's main selling feature is going to be, as expected, the ability for the camera to pan around the room. Although these controls are not currently exposed in Apple HomeKit, you can still leverage this feature by turning on the motion tracking within the Eufy app and then just letting the camera move around as it detects motion in it's vicinity.
All in all, I think the Eufy camera is a great buy, especially at it's price point which is one of the lowest in the market right now.

I have some days with this camera, my first security camera in HomeKit and I’m really happy with it. I had to do a firmware upgrade first to add HomeKit support, I’m glad I heard about this product after support was deployed.

Agree 100%. I’m sure we’re going to see Eufy cams going in a lot of HomeKit Homes in the next few months. Really hoping that iOS 14 stays as stable as the betas would suggest.

Thanks for the review! Sorry if I missed this from video, but can I pan and tilt the camera from the Home app? Or it will stream from the last camera position / motion track only?
@Homekitgeek
@Homekitgeek 3 года назад
No problem at all! Great question - You can NOT control the pan/tilt from the home app. Those controls aren’t available yet for cameras in HomeKit. Exactly as you said - it will stream from the last position. If you turned on the motion track in the Eufy app the camera will pan/tilt to follow whatever is in the room and the Home app will see the stream where the camera is moving. Hopefully this answers the question!

If you add a Walmart ten dollar portable USB charger battery brick 8000 mAh using your same USB wall plug it will give your system power when power goes out and keep it on guard for threats even if your internet is out then the camera will still record video for later review. Criminals will cut power to security systems to disable them but with a battery backup in the loop your camera will keep working. Just an FYI . I have all of my Eufy Cam pan and tilt cameras on battery backup , it’s cheap and works.

Hey Ro Bru - Hard to trouble shoot this remotely, but I’d start buy making sure that all of your Homekit hub devices are running iOS 14 at a minimum. This includes any iPads that you might have configured as Homekit Hub once upon a time ( this one happened to me and it was a real pain to find! ). Do you have any other cameras which are working properly? If all your Homehub are running latest software, I’d start by deleting and re-adding the camera. Do you have any other cameras that are working properly? Did you set the camera to record and not just streaming? Just trying to think out loud of the questions I’d be looking at if it was happening to me. Hoping this helps!

Can this camera be mounted on the ceiling? Is the power cord plug located under the camera or the side? Is there battery backup?
@Homekitgeek
@Homekitgeek 3 года назад
This can be mounted in the ceiling. The power cord is on the back(side) not bottom of the camera. No battery backup. You can also rotate the image 180 degrees in the Eufy app so you’re not turning your phone upside down.

What is your experience with this camera now that ios14 has been released? What features have you noticed have been added since the latest update? Im interested in the activity zone and pan / tilt features directly from HK. Also, how do you feel this compares to something like the Logi Circle view, where you add the device directly into HK?
@Homekitgeek
@Homekitgeek 3 года назад
Hey Joshua! Great questions. First - nothing added to the camera specifically- any of the new Features added in iOS14 apply to all compatible cameras so not a huge difference there. The activity zones in iOS14 seem to work more or less properly. It’s not perfect but it’s a step in the right direction. There are no pan/tilt control from HK still. Best you’ll get is auto-tracking in the Eufy app and it flows through to HK. No ability to manually control. Working in a comparison video - but the most obvious is the size/shape/color and the Pan/Tilt features. As well the Eufy cans need to be connected to the Eufy app (read: “Cloud”) for updates which could be an issue for some security minded folks. From a HomeKit perspective they are reasonably equal with the Circle view coming out ahead with firmware updates included.

I have this camera and I love it as well as the other non-ptz Eufy 2k. Great prices, I got mine on amazon for $39 and $29 for the non-ptz with coupon codes. The homekit compatibility is really great at this price. It's just too bad that I can't use both homekit and rtsp with my Blue Iris server at the same time. Other than that this is a definite 'buy'!

@Homekitgeek
@Homekitgeek 3 года назад
Absolutely you can operate this through the Eufy app. Apple Homekit is an a smarthome automation ecosystem that allows you to tie devices from different manufacturers together in a fairly easy way. Using Homekit, you have have the Eufy camera detect motion and turn on Philips Hue lights, turn on an Eve Aqua sprinkler, turn off a wemo smart plug, change the temperature on your ecobee or turn your Vocolinc purifier to max. Homekit is about taking your gadgets and making them work together to make your life easier.

Hey Sylvia! Great question! Sorry I missed this one in the video. Sound comes through from the camera to your device but you can’t speak through the cameras. The cameras microphone works so you can hear what’s in the room but you can’t talk to anyone in the room. At least not for now - there is 2-way audio in the Eufy app though so hopefully this will be addressed in a future firmware update.

Lol Those clouds are still necessary for Amazon and google support, at least in the short term. But yeah... I would expect to see more HSV cameras on the market as it’s a good way to charge more (the Apple tax) and theres relatively low o going cloud costs to continue supporting the products in the future.

hi, this is better than the awara g2h?
@Homekitgeek
@Homekitgeek 3 года назад
They are different beasts. From a HSV standpoint - I would say they are in the same ballpark. It’s the other stuff that would push me in one way or another. The Aqara has a zigbee hub which means that you can attach low price Aqara accessories like contact sensors or even smart plugs and expose them out to HomeKit (or other). The Eufy on the other hand has some cool features (RTSP stream, pet detection, etc...) that give it advantages the G2h doesn’t have. The sad part is that many of those features aren’t available when the Eufy is in HomeKit mode. So really it depends on what you’re going to be using it for. Hope this helps!

@Homekitgeek
@Homekitgeek 4 года назад
The 2K mode was at 15 frame per second where HSV requires 24 FPS. I wonder if the upscaling on the frame rate might explain some of the quality issues. I haven’t seen any significant issues yet on my end, but it’s definitely something I’ll watch for and report back.

Yeah I have some ideas about that to try and make it more obvious.... Jon is definitely right that there’s a difference. Less so between the Eve Cam and the Circle - but there’s a 55 degree FoV difference between the Circles and the Eufy’s which is pretty obvious once you see them side by side.

Don’t disagree that the 1080p limit is annoying. But it’s what we have to work with or move to another automation platform. The benefits of HomeKit out way the limitation for my use-cases, at least for now. The advanced automations piece is why I’m still in the HomeKit camp.

Just a small correction, Apple can’t fix this on the Eufy cam. This is 100% in Eufy’s control. They need to expose the speaker to homekit. If your Eufy notification are setup to pop on your phone and your watch is connected, it should appear on your watch.
