#Eureka is rolling out bug fixes for the Mignon Oro #CoffeeGrinder. I find it competent, but disappointing as a home appliance. After a month of daily use, my coffee tastes delicious, but my patience is wearing thin. I sense that the #NicheZero would be a better companion for many of us.

I don't think there is anything wrong about a company wanting to make a profit. They did respond and maybe they will improve their product. I believe that the problem is manufacturers that won't make changes. Credit where credit is due. If they make the changes talked about in this video, then they are a manufacturer I would be happy to buy from.

Please consider a look to mignon existing portafilter holders/fork and how to modify it to fit it on The tilted single doser. This and your previous review of this grinder knock things out of the park. You really focus on everything of interest to a potential buyer/user, and your input is vastly appreciated by me! It prevented me from making a huge mistake. Instead of plodding forward with sourcing one of these grinders in Germany, I instead pre-ordered a Niche (for home use), and am now doubly certain that your reviews helped me find the perfect grinder for me (for espresso and AeroPress). Bellows stays on fine for me as long as your not pushing it from the side, I guess it could be accidentally nudged but never noticed it coming off. Although I haven't been using mine too much lately. I think you need to do the same cup / rattling test with something like the Specialita, which IS a more quieter grinder. But I don't think you want any metal touching your grinder, I know it's just a test to demonstrate the vibration :) I found the DF64 grinder with a metal funnel does vibrate similarly sometimes if it's touching the spout on the grinder. Not many grinders have as nice of a workflow / or are as nice to use as a niche zero! Eureka is trying to compete with it though it seems! The Oro is definitely not a commercial grade grinder, that's a compliment it does not deserve :D It would definitely overheat quick used commercially, I feel the grinds out of them are already warmer than any other grinder I've played with, and that's just with a 18g dose!
@wiredgourmet
@wiredgourmet 2 года назад
Just for the record, I did say in the first review that it has no cooling, and can therefore be used only in a low-volume shop. The grind quality is totally there. The major components are heavy duty, but the package is all kinds of wrong. And there seems to be inconsistency in assembly and parts supply, because a lot of people say the bellows is a total fail with retention, but I find it works nicely. When it's in place, I mean, lol.

I bought one a couple of months ago, and they have definitely addressed most issues. Mine is quiet, fast and provides a consistent grind. I removed the de-clumper as I quite enjoy a little bit of "puck prep" and it's pointless. I haven't checked the burr alignment. I'll be honest, I bought the thing because of the design as I think the Niche Zero has that "Blobject" design from the early 00's. Even at my advanced years I think it's old-fashioned-looking. Whereas this Eureka is a design classic.

Yes, I pointed that out in the full review, but I've had no trouble, possibly because the 65mm burrs fling the coffee with more force. And the bellows works well for me, although some have found it useless. There seems to be a lot of inconsistency in assembly and parts.

This is a fantastic follow up to the original review and again great video! Based on your first review, it feels like Eureka produces this grinder as a quick cash grab to gain single dose market share which has been enjoyed mostly by Niche Zero. They didn't seem to design it because they believe it could be a great product. They do it purely to improve their profit/loss sheet which was made worse by losing customer choosing single dose grinder than theirs.... That being said, I am still really keen on getting the grinder and your findings here will absolutely help my decision! I am sure many MANY potentially buyers are on the exact the same boat and wanting to see the 2nd round of this grinder's review. In some way, you "helped" improving this grinder and enhance the user experience. This could turn a beautiful yet "catch-full" & purely cash grab focused grinder into a truely great single dose grinder which is competent enough to compete with Niche Zero. If this ever is the case, Eureka has you to thank to say the very least!

@wiredgourmet
@wiredgourmet 2 года назад
The burrs are identical in proportions and blade pattern, so the larger size makes a negligible difference in flavor. Their chief advantage is speed. The Spet is definitely better value for money -- and overall a better device, at least for now.

Hello Thomas, two months of use after me and here we go. I do like most of the grinder, but the retention claim. In my case the retention is maxed out while changing grinds from the filter back to espresso. Something like a 1.7-2g gram difference on espresso was not unusual. Once one or two espressos pass I'm in the 0.1-0.6g retention range for a single basket on something like 5-6 setting from the touchpoint which matches the expectation from product materials. Any tips/mods on how to reduce the retention on espresso grinds while going finer from the filter? Also, similarly, going from espresso to the filter gives you 1g more out than in which leads to clogging of v60, etc. I did try spraying as some of the beans were a bit stuck in the hopper. I thought that something like a full clean each week will help, but that makes the initial few shots even worse. I'm now giving a shot to Urnex Grindz weekly cleanup. I wish that one day I could just weigh the coffee in and wouldn't have to worry about coffee out. 0.1-0.3 would be totally below my radar. Visually I like the product, but it's a bit frustrating to deal with retention. Do you have a similar experience?
@wiredgourmet
@wiredgourmet 2 года назад
I live in a really humid climate so I have only minor issues with static and retention on the SD. My only suggestion would be to check for any pressure leaks when you use the bellows, which works well for me here. Now, I just received the updated version, and I'm testing it now. I'll report on any improvements in a couple of weeks.

Why wouldn't the hopper work on other Mignon grinders I have a 3d printed single dose hopper that I had used on the Specialita and fits pretty nicely on the Oro SD, but maybe it doesn't work the other way, I think it does sit maybe a millimeter higher so maybe that's a problem, but still forms a better seal than the stock hopper does on the Oro SD (3rd party Bellows blows harder and actually worked better on mine).

After a lot of research finally bought a Mignon Zero grinder, it's a amazing piece of art. However I've been struggling with the very little amount of information about the different settings in the dialing knob. I couldn't find so far any microns per mark chart (from zero point) for example. In some cases I saw information about the 3 full turns in the dial (from zero point) being the total range of settings from turkish to french press (0 to 1400 microns), and some others that mentions that is only 1.5 full turns for the full range (again, 0 to 1400 microns). So, pretty confused right now, is there any piece of information about this? Is the full range for the Mignon Zero 3 full turns to the dial knob?

It seems that the build of the grinder is widely inconsistent indeed! As an example my wooden lid does not just fit a bit tight on the hopper, it just doesn’t fit at all as the diameter seems just a bit too small. The wooden base is however also chipped below the Mignon logo. Eureka‘s initial reply? The chipped wooden base complies to their standards, and the wooden lid is made just for the bellows and only the plastic lid is supposed to fit the hopper, contrary to all their videos and product shots and even their response to your first video. Both the build quality standards, but also customer service seem to have room for improvement to say the least. Very disappointing (specially for us pre order customers who placed a great deal of trust in Eureka) as the product would otherwise definitely have potential. Will be difficult to build excitement around the product and compete with the Niche like this.

I had planned to near launch, but they weren't available in the EU at the time. Now it's kind of old news and I'm not sure the interest is there. But do check out my Cafelat Robot video before you decide on the Flair. To me, the bot is a better design and build.

I also agree with the finishing, hoppers, and fine details (the knob and no counter on the Specialita) . I actually would not buy Eureka products because of this, as if I am spending over 600 dollars on a product, the manufacturer should be making effort in the finest details of a premium product. I am probably going to go with the Niche Zero because of this. Also my guy please stop using the same background music over and over again. I'd rather just hear you talk instead

It’s the same with any major espresso machine or grinder maker. These where original makers to industry not home users and they where all pretty much Italian companies and it shows. Poor fit and finish, poor welding, birds nest wiring, rattling sounds etc. has been the norm for a couple of decades and they still seem to have a hard time understanding needs in a home environment, no wander small companies like Niche, Option-O, Kafatek, Titus, Weber Workshop and soon Kopi Deva and Acaia as well simply because these understated it better and big companies have made a highway for these because of their poor understanding and product development.

The vibration problem doesn’t seem right at all , maybe check the bottom burr is centred correctly? I say this because my minion has this problem and when I sent it back I was told I was expecting to much !🙄🤬

I finally got around to measuring runout on the motor shaft, and it's fine. The carrier is seated and centered. I suspect it's the motor mounts, which seem OK in vertical setups, just not adapted to the lean angle properly. I'll keep tinkering, and if I find anything really interesting, I'll post a video.

@@daveroberts1099 Yes, I'll be doing more testing after I receive the updated version, and compare them side by side. Maybe hold off on the new burr carrier as I'm working on a jig to measure runout on the carrier.

Seems like you’re soft, Tom. Sharp edges, loose rubber, and vibrations, oh my!!! A lot of what your whining about is just contrary to your personal opinion. And yes I do own this grinder. I prefer the look and aesthetic of the SD over the Niche, but I don’t have soft hands either. I have absolutely zero of the issues that you seem to have. The sliding metal tab - works great. The fit of the bellows - put it on and it hasn’t even hinted at coming off. The very attractive and unique wooden bellows lid - I haven’t dropped on a hard surface and guess what! It hasn’t chipped! It’s a miracle!!! Volume level - it’s much quieter than any other grinders I’ve owned and seems accurate to the decibel ratings from Eureka. Let’s just face it, the vibration thing is made up, so I’m not even acknowledging it. My take is that you’re a Niche Zero fanboy who’s upset that they have some viable competition now. Unsubbed, BTW.

Nah get out, for the price I'm paying for a "premium" product, how hard is it to have high standards. That's like a luxury vehicle having a seat belt that doesn't work right
@triumphrider9396
@triumphrider9396 2 года назад
@@kevivarma2759 that’s a terrible analogy. If the seatbelt doesn’t work it never makes it to the consumer. In this case the grinder produces superbly ground coffee and does so while retaining a single dose workflow. My sample has top notch fit and finish as well. The perceived issues by the OP are just that, his perception. They don’t change the fact that this grinder does what it is intended to do and does it every well, even if the first run had its issues. Working out the QA issues is a fact of manufacturing no matter what, even for Toyota and Lexus.

Nothing in that video suggests he's a niche fanboy shill. It's clear his model has those problems even if yours doesn't. Manufacturing can be inconsistent. His points were all legitimate for a machine at that price category.

@entertainment6630

I think you are focusing on the "functionality" more whereas Tom focuses more on the "user experience" which is what matters to me the most for any product. It's those small details and careful consideration set a premium and successful product apart, not mere functions. And at the price Eureka is asking, people will and should pay attention to small details, because (though intangible), they pay for those too.
